Jeremy (lazerwraith) I loved the first book, Hounded. It is part of the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne.

Has anyone else read Hounded? The next two books are coming out in a few months. The author is working on the next books, but the publisher wants to see what people think of the current books.

Kerry (rocalisa) | 46 comments I have Hounded, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. I'm glad to hear you liked it. I read the first chapter as a sample and certainly liked that.

Brandon I just read Hounded and enjoyed it. It doesn't have sense of humour that the Dresden books have and you don't ever feel like the hero is hopeless outclassed because of his age but still a good read.

Tamara I read a bit of the chapters up on the authors website (after people recommended it becuase I really enjoyed the Rivers of London books) but it came off extremely Gary Stu, wish fulfilment, too cool to live, and I found it really annoying. Does it go away at least a bit or am I exaggerating, maybe? (I really want to like this book. The mix of setting sounds great. Its just seems too *eyeroll*.)

Brandon It does seem like he has a lot of things stacked in his favour and that while he is not as powerful as the gods he certainly is no pushover. He has money from long term investments of course lots of friends and contacts etc... It seems that other than having some old enemies who have found him he's got a pretty nice life.

The age thing they mostly play up using language but the character never really feels like he is old. More that he is a mature 30 y/o who looks young.

Candice Finished reading it last night. I liked it a lot. It was funny, and I thought the mix of slang and ancient knowledge worked pretty well. Atticus did seem almost invincible sometimes, but given the premise I thought it made sense.

As far as wish fulfillment, what jumped out at me was that all the women were HOT, but I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be how Atticus viewed the world, or if it just didn't occur to the author to put in any less-than-smokin' females. Except for the ancient, grandmotherly neighbor, of course. :)

Nita (gillnit) I read Hounded over the weekend. I liked the premise a lot and the delivery for the most part. Some of the humor was a little too silly for me. But I liked the fact that for a guy 2,000 years old and in hiding from a god, Atticus is a pretty laid back guy.

And he is very randy. Maybe, Ugo, he was projecting some of that on his views of female characters? Otherwise Tempe, AZ has many hot human females and supernaturals wandering around.

I thought it was possibly character development, until I noticed most of the women were as attracted to him as he was to them. That's when I thought, "Hmmm..." On the other hand, he HAS been around 2000 years - that's plenty of time to hone his skills. :)

As a character I found him very entertaining, and I loved the mythologies. I'm definitely reading the second book.
