The Day is here for some of you newcomers, it's time to be tested to see your likely faction choice for tommorow, Choosing Day! Please inform me if you would like to be a tester, to help people find out their path of life

Mandra, a Choosing Preperation Test helper called out Evelyn's name. While she waited for Evelyn to come in, she properly scanned the computers, than uploaded the imaging into the mechanical chords, and made sure everything went smoothly. SHe was ready for the first test of the day.

"Hello..." she looked at her name card "Evelyn" she saw the nervous expression and bead of sweat on Evelyn "Don't worry honey. This test will be fast, it won't hurt, and you are completely safe. All you have to do is lie down over there." she pointed to the chair "And relax..."

Mandra positioned Evelyn's body according to manual instructions. She attached twelve wires to her head, 6 for relaxation and reality probing and the other 6 for the visuals themselves. She pressed a button, setting 3 of the 6 relaxing wires to work. She was now in ReactSleep, meaning she was sleeping yet somewhat sleepwalking. She pulled a lever down and inserted a wire into the chair she was in. Evelyn's body lowered, a small thin glass case covered her body. The other 6 wires were pressed and than set to work, on a screen she saw Evelyn's dream-pixel body, and the scene she was in.
A dog slowly appraoched her on the screen. Evelyn was in the test.
It had begun

Mandra panicked! She forgot the cheese and knife, what should she do!? She ran around the circular room and noticed a wire hanging loose, it was the wakeup wire.
Without protection Evelyn would die in her dream...
And never wake up.
She looked over to the scream, the dog was running, about to jump.
She pushed the button saying knife again and again but to no avail.
She ran over to Evelyn's body in panic and shook it, nothing.
Before she could plug the wakeup wire in, the dog jumped on Evelyn.
Mandra fainted.

Mandra woke up only minutes later, she looked at the projector screen, seeing Evelyn struggle under the dog. The dog was readying for the final bite. Mandra was Candor, the honset. Mandra couldn't defy laws, it was her nature! To break a test machine or to force somebody awake would be breaknig laws! But what if she had to kill Mandra, to end her neverending virtual torture... Mandra thought about it.
"I'm so sorry my fellow Candor people" She walked over to the desk and picked up a huge metal box. Lifting it, she threw it at the seat that Evelyn was on, an electrical shock burst, flames erupted from the machine, Mandra was blown back, but not harmed. She had no idea of what she threw at the machine, she thought it was a box impossible to open. But for some reason, in all the electrical explosions, the box slipped open and shot out onto the floor. The machine completely shut down. Was Evelyn still in the virtual reality? Or would she awaken?
Mandra had no idea.

Mandra looked, EVELYN WAS ALIVE. Mandra was relieved, but ashamed. She was not honest to the law, was not controlled, was risky, and messed up. She felt as if she was worthless, she ran over to Evelyn and hugged her. Suddenly on the screen behind her a ton of pictures appeared. SHe was worried it was another electronic meltdown. It wasn't, it was her test results. As she looked at the screen she saw the five faction names revolving around, it would siowly pick her faction, but for some odd reason no faction specifically was chosen. "How can this be?" She wondered. SHe looked at the screen and a word instantly appeared, Mandra cried out; Afraid. The word said in crisp clear bold letters.
"Divergent"

Mandra looked at Evelyn. Tears welled up in her eyes and she walked slowly over to Evelyn. "Evelyn, I'm so sorry. I put you through so much, but now comess...the worst part. Divergent is dangerous, being divergent can get you killed, but it can also save the world. I am behind lots of plans, and I'm behind lots of things illegal, things I should not be doing. I trust you keep my secret as I keep yours. Being Divergent is extremeely scary, you will see. I wish I could help, actually I can. I can do two things.
The first: Run away with me, we can leave, go someplace better, I know how to find a place that is safe, we have been planning for years.
The second: This option is scary, I'd hate to, but torture is worse than...well, the second thing I could do is.
Kill you."

"I'd never want to kill you," Mandra explained "But being Divergent can lead to pain, torture, sadness, depression, all the things we've tried to stop. THe factions are crazy though, they know nothing, and.." before she could continue, somebody else walked in for their testing. She whispered in Evelyns ear "I will find you, then we'll leave, if you ask me to, I will kill you...if you choose to do neither than tommorow choose wisely for your faction choice."
She smiled as she left and got ready, nervously, to help somebody else

Mandra was finished for the day, everything else went smoothly, no more malfunctions or divergents. She felt scared even thinking the word "Divergent". She went to her desk, took the notecard and read Evelyn's adress.

She rode her bike there. Finally she rang the doorbell.

((I FINISHED THE BOOK, its breathtaking and sad and amazing so excited for book two, i'll comment later)

Mandra walked in and brought Evelyn to the corner of the room "Okay, i've made a decision, I won't kill you. We are going to run today to a safe location in the city, than we will try and escape the City." she paused and looked around "Before we leave, we must rebel though, we've had a plan for a while. We are going to start a huge Erudite assembly, gather to Erudite leaders and people in the hub, than we destroy the hub, bomb it, burn it, and shoot those inside it. WE can destroy the Whole Faction altogethor!"

"Evelyn are you having second thoughts?!" she felt betrayed "Because if you are I can end your pain but killing you or just leave right now and you're stuck here and the erudite plan with STILL commence"
she looked at Evelyn deeper "Don't you want to be part of something bigger, this big!? Don't you wont to show you aren't weak, to be part of the revolution...what else do you have to live for?"

"Okay, that's what I like to hear. Now all we have to do is sneak out and walk a mile to headquarters. There we have packs of explosives, firearms, ammo, and lots of matches. First we shoot down the leaders. Than we start a fire. And than we set fire to all the electrical wires in the Hub and throw explosives and KABAM...the whole city is lit up but the death of the Erudite. I know it sounds cruel, but listen Evelyn...I am Divergent, this is what we have to do."

"Listen, Evelyn...I understand your worries. You were born to Amity, it's a scary thing to wage war on somebody else when you were raised to always follow the peaceful way of life...but peace isn't always the answer. The amity won't fight back and will be wiped off the face of the Earth in seconds. If we fight back, you are saving your faction and your family. This is the way to do things, this is our, YOUR destiny..." and with that Mandra ran out the door hoping Evelyn would follow.

"We're at headquarters," she saw the confused look on Evelyns face. "It's underground." Mandra climbed through a vent system and into headquarters she screamed "eRUDEite" and was allowed in

Jasper was waiting for his test, uncertain of what was to come. It didn't matter anyway he told himself, he knew what he was going to do, he wasn't afraid.
A girl had gone in earlier, he had heard yelling and a crash, but he had to be imaging it.
He sat back cooly. He had been waitng for this day for all his life, well not really this day but the one after it. Choosing day, the day he could become a Dauntless, like his parents.

Lena is sitting in the middle of her group of friends, who are debating about which hair style looks best for the Choosing Ceremony. Not very interested in the topic of the debate, she moves towards the edge of the group of Candor girls. All her life, shes never felt right among her faction. They all told the truth no matter the consequence, which she never quite understood. She picks at her fingernails thinking about what will happen in the testing room. She obviously didnt belong in Candor, but then where was she supposed to go? She feels butterflies in her stomach whenever she thinks about leaving her brother Elliot. How can she leave him when he is only three. Her parents will always tell stories to him about how his sister left him. A traitor to her own birth faction.

Shane Bellator sat alone watching his fellow Erudite classmates go to get tested. Shane wasn't nervous for his test. He had no parents to dissapoint, and his older sister had always encouraged him to try different things. No matter what faction he chose on Choosing Day, he wouldn't feel like he was betraying anybody he loved.

Shane wondered what other factions were like. He had always felt he didn't belong in Erudite. He was smart, but he didn't have a endless thirst for knowledge, like most other Erudites. He honestly hadn't thought about which faction he would choose in the end. He just knew that it wouldn't be Erudite. He would leave that faction without looking back.

"hi there..." she looked at her card "...shane. It's so nice to meet you." A helper named Shannon said and shook hands with Shane. "I'm going to help with your tests today" she said this excitedly.
"I'm sure you can strap yourself up in that chair and we'll be ready soon"

Shane took a seat, strapping himself into the chair. How would this test work? Everyone taking the test was told not to prepare for it. He had no idea what to expect.

"Oh and Mrs. Lena, please strap yourself up and take a seat over there," she pointed to the other chair in the room. She felt bad, two tests in one room was rather scary, nerve racking, almost embarresing and very awkward, but it was required sometimes. Why waste time when you could speed things up? When Shane and Lena were secured correctly, Shannon flipped the switch and pushed some buttons. Than, attaching wires to the right head locations on both of them, she pressed the launch button, and their brains and thoughts were opened into the virtual reality.
Now they had to choose, Knife or Cheese.

The last thing Lena remembers seeing was Shannon smiling at her as she pressed a button on the screen next to the chair. Then all of a sudden, Lena finds herself sitting at a table with a knife on her left and a hunk of cheese on her right. A woman across the table yells at her, "PICK ONE! PICK ONE NOW!" In fear of the woman Lena yells," Okay, Okay! Ummm... why should I choose?" The woman just stares at her. "Alright well I guess I'm not hungry so...I'll choose..." Lena continues to move her hand over the cheese and then to the knife and back again. "CHOOOSE!" The woman yells. Lena startled grasps the knife at last.

"Choose" A women said, sternly.

Shane looked, puzzled. Before him lay a knife and a peice of cheese in a basket. He hesitated before picking up the knife. He didn't see how cheese woud be helpful in any situation.

Shane looked down at the knife. He was gripping it so tightly his knuckles had turned white. The knife gleamed. He gulped nervously. Was he nervous? He couldn't be. Especially considering a huge dog, with razor teeth was walking towards him, snarling.

Lena took a better look at the knife in her hand. It was about the size of her forearm, and gleamed brightly when reflecting the light like it had just been washed. Lena looked up to ask the woman why she possibly needed a knife at this moment, but she wasn't there anymore. Instead a big broad dog with shark like teeth stared back at her. Slobber dripped from it's mouth like it hadn't eaten in weeks. Lena gripped the knife tighter as the ferocious beast stalked closer. What was she supposed to do? It looked like the only thing she could do was kill the dog. But she just couldn't, Lena had a dog back at home, Simon, and couldn't bear the idea of killing it. So instead Lena slowly set the knife on the floor then kicked it to the side and dropped to her knees and then finally lied (laid?) down on the ground in front of the dog. Lena waited in suspense as she tried to trust her knowledge of dogs that she learned while preparing to train Simon. She heard movement in front of her, then a drip of slobber on her arm, then all of a sudden the dog nudged Lena's side then started to pant in a playful tone. Giggling Lena sat up and started to scratch behind the dog's ears just like Simon liked.

"Perfect," said Shannon. They picked the knife. Both of them chose correctley for the faction that would likely be chosen. It was always safer, always ...when picking the faction that you were born in. Ofcourse, Shannon was brave, fearless, so she never played the safe route and chose dauntless, even though she was born in Amity. She hated the Amitians (Amity People) peace was a joke to her. She looked at the screen showing Lena calmly petting the dog that she had apparantley related to a dog named Simon. Than she turned, and caught her breath seeing Shane trying to defend himself as the dog attack and tried to tear at him...it was a very scary thing, but if he was hurt he'd be ok.
"What the hell?" said Shannon.
Suddenly, Lena's dog became a little fiercer...and Shane's dog a little calmer...the two dogs bodies were existing as one. And slowly, the second screen shut off and both Lena and Shane were in the same testing virtual room. "HOW IS THIS HAPPENING!?" said Shannon, panicking and hitting buttons the manual instructed to press in emergencies. Her adrenaline was rushing and she was thinking of how scared she was. "NO. I'm Dauntless, I am fearless." She relaxed and got to work. But than, suddenly she saw both Lena and Shane had the same reaction to the half calm/ half ferocious dog...they were a mix of fear and laughter. It was so confusing, every aspect of the two tests were combining...than she realized what was happening.
Something had gone wrong...Shannon looked back and saw one of Shane's wires was on Lena and one of Lena's was on Shane! The two minds were coexisting and the machine was changing their actions...the two of them were becoming exactley the same. Their minds and characteristics were changing and becoming one.
They were becoming clones of eachother.
And somehow, Shannon knew she hadn't put the wires differentley.
Somebody had come in when she wasn't looking and changed it...somebody wanted to make clones...but which faction were they both forming into?
Or was it even a same faction they were both headed towards...maybe it was the dreaded word she heard on the first day of duty.
Maybe both of them as their minds, choices, and tests combined...were become...
Divergent.

Lena started to feel queasy and different, she felt fear and happiness at the same time. What was happening to her? All of a sudden the dog let out a deep growl, startled Lena jumped back in surprise. "Alright, I guess trying to tame you isn't going to work." Lena made a dash for the knife which she had so cleverly kicked across the room. "Nice going Lena, you could have at least kept it a bit closer!" Lena could hear the dog gaining on her, and with one last leap she grabbed the knife and turned around and stabbed the dog. The dog let out a whimper of pain that literally ripped out Lena's heartstrings, and then it collapsed to the ground. She hated herself for killing the dog but she must move on. "This isn't real" she thought to herself, "It's just a illusion, no animals were hurt in the making of this test." Lena laughed to herself and with one last glance at the dog stood up and walked away.

((goodness!! That's a real twist to the plot!!))

One moment, Shane was charging at a dog with a knife, and the next, he was fighting the same dog, except the dog had two sides. Agressive and calm.

Shane looked to his side. The Same girl who was in the testing room with him was scrambling across the floor for a knife exactley like the one he was holding. When did she get here? Was she always there? No, something must have gone wrong with the simulation.

The girl, who apperantley had found her knife, was now standing over the limp body of a dog.

"I dont think this is supposed to happen in simulations" He said to the girl, dropping his knife.

Lena looks up, and sees the boy from the simulation room, although she can't quite put a finger on what his name was. It takes her awhile to register the fact that the boy said something. "..Y-Yeah I don't think so either," she says regaining her composure. "Well, umm...what are we supposed to do now? What's next?" Lena asks confused.

Shannon was nervous and desperate so she shut down the machines and slapped them both to life. For some reason...the results were conclusive...Shane was to go to Candor...and Lena was to go to Amity.
But than, sparks started across the screen. It looked like somebody was hacking...writing a message.

"W-E...A-R-E...S-U-M-M-O-N-I-N-G...A-N...A-R-M-Y...O-F...K-I-D-S...C-A-L-L-E-D...T-H-E...I-N-S-U-R-G-E-N-TS... (Shannon then saw that the code became clear) The Insurgent army consists of only Divergent classified and incoclusive test children...we changed LENA and SHANE's abilities so they both thought as Divergents and could join the army. The army is being led by two named Tobias and Beatrice(Tris), please send LENA and SHANE to the headquarters (located near the Opal Hall in Faction Amity) and please accompany them...we have news to explain."

Shannon was shocked but turned around instantly and said "Lena, Shane...you obviously noticed the glitch...for some dangerous and odd reason I must take you someplace. If you don't follow I understand..but I stress that you must, it seems safe. I think...it's a rebellion of some sort...come Lena and Shane."
She printed instructions to Opal Hall...and began to walk.

Lena was a little dazed as she came out of the simulation, for a second she saw that the screen said she was supposed to go to Amity. "That's not right, I killed the dog and I grabbed the knife. Wait what's going on with the screen now?" Lena thought to herself. Shannon then explained the situation to them both. Lena locked eyes with the boy named Shane, they both realized the direness of the situation, she had to leave. This must be important if Shannon was freaking out. "Alright, I'll go." Lena then raced after Shannon, glancing behind at Shane before rounding the corner.

Shane was back in the testing room, with the girl, Lena, and Shannon. What happened back there in the simulation was obviously not normal. Shannon explained the situation frantically, asking them to follow her somewhere. Lena agreed and followed Shannon out the door, looking back at him. He followed them without thinking. Somehow, he knew this was important.

Lena heard movement behind her and jumped. She turned around her and saw it was just Shane. "Oh goodness you scared me, I didn't think you were going to come!"

Shane sighed " I figured I had to, it seems like a big deal".

He looked up ahead past Lena at Shannon, who seemed to be in a hurry, so e picked up his pace, walking just behind her.

"Umm, Shannon, how are we going to get there? Won't we seem a little suspicious?" Lena said curiously.

((Oh my gosh, i'm SOOOOO sorry Maddie. You can be at the headquarters waitnig for Lena and Shane))

"Where are we even going?" Shane asked, adding to Lena's questions.

"I'm not sure about this...I barely understand. But another woman is here to help us apparantley so we need to go there. I'm confused and worried...but i'll do it, for the sake of your lives."

That did'nt sound good. Why were their lives in danger? Was it because of the simulation? He walked along in silence, hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.

"Ummm...Shannon, why is this happening to us. What did we do that made us different?" Lena asked while a lone tear ran down her face. "Can I see my family?"

"I'm so sorry," she hugged Lena "I wish I knew why this was happening..I kow you did nothing wrong though. And I imagine you will see your family one day..."
Shannon said this without hope. In truth she wanted to answer "This is happening because the factions are far from perfect and we are going to probably die." and when lena asked about family...she didn't but Shannon wanted to answer
"No Lena, you will never see them again"
