Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments I'm opening nominations for our July read in hopes of getting ahead a little. Seems like we're always nominating and voting for books a little late for my taste. Some of you like to read ahead.

Nominations will close EARLY. I've decided to ask for seconds to reduce the total number of books nominated to a more manageable number.

Thanks.

SINCE WE HAVE 15 NOMINATIONS SECONDED, I AM CLOSING THE POLL EARLY!

VOTE HERE: http://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/48...

I don't suppose we could second ourselves or use a procedural rule to forgo it?

You can't second yourself and I'm not sure what you mean about a procedural rule. I put the second thing in because most other groups require them and we've had such enthusiastic participation in our last few nominations that the number of books becomes overwhelming. And dilutes the vote.

message 7: by Jared (new)

Jared (wisthrop) I'll second "A Bad Spell in Yurt". I remember this book being funny, but I don't remember much about it. It's always good to read something again and this time track it on goodreads! :)

message 8: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk I'll second The Anubis Gates because I really want to read it, and having it a monthly read is always a good excuse to get around to a book.

message 9: by Maggie (new)

Maggie K | 282 comments How about an old classic...I nominate Zelazny's Nine Princes in Amber

message 11: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk After a bit of thought and searching, I'd like to nominate The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett.

Checking over the group, it looks like Good Omens has been a group read, but not this one. It's years since I read it, and I remember it being a hoot.

message 12: by Joe (new)

Joe A (eojsmada) I would like to nominate Mistborn

message 13: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ I'll second Howl's Moving Castle.

Be sure to check the bookshelf to see what we've already read. I know we've read Howl's Moving Castle and perhaps Assassin's Apprentice.

Here's the link to the bookshelf:

Or perhaps: Spirit Gate.

message 20: by Serenity (last edited May 19, 2011 08:42PM) (new)

message 27: by mussolet (new)

mussolet (sovotchka) I'll second The Dragon's Path because I would have suggested it myself ;).

By the way, I think it's a good idea to start nominations early, now I'll have a chance to get books not usually sold in my country on time for the group read ;).

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I'd like to nominate Son of Ereubus by J.S.Chancellor

message 29: by Robert (new)

Robert (valdieron) I nominate Demon Gates. Indie fantasy on eBook only with some good reviews and interest so far.

message 30: by Jared (new)

Jared (wisthrop) I'll nominate Legend of the White Dragon: Legends, Legacies, Destiny or Legend of the White Dragon: Legends depending if we prefer a three-in-one book of the whole trilogy or just the first book in the trilogy. Don't quite know the protocol here.

message 31: by Red (new)

Red I will second Joe Abercrombie's Best Served Cold,
and nominate The Curious Case of the Clockwork Man
By Mark Hodder.

Third vote for Nine Princes in Amber.

message 41: by Maggie (new)

Maggie K | 282 comments 5 days is going to get us 100 nominations! I'm glad we are doing seconds, Sandra. As you said, we end up with too many and it dilutes the vote.

Mare (mare_1503) I would like to nominate Fablehaven Fablehaven (Fablehaven, #1) by Brandon Mull

message 45: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Geoff wrote: "Third vote for Nine Princes in Amber."

The only problem with Nine Princes in Amber is that I'd probably end up reading either five or ten books, not just one. But that's not a real problem, is it?

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll second The Eye of the World

message 47: by Mawgojzeta (new)

Mawgojzeta Alicia Reads wrote: "I nominate Black Sun Rising: The Coldfire Trilogy #1, by C.S. Friedman."

Michelle Stockard Miller (michelleamiller) | 43 comments The Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander Lloyd Alexander

I have been wanting to re-read this for years! This is the entire chronicles in one book, but each book was short so it's only about 700+ pages.

message 49: by Joy (new)

Joy (crowgirl) I highly recommend The Half-Made World. Something different from feudal S&S or vampire love stories.
