Sure. Anything that says "book" I'd consider fiction or nonfiction. We try to be careful to say "novel" if we mean just fiction or specifically indicate nonfiction. But it never hurts to ask as some stuff slips past us sometimes ;o).

Sorry, I noticed the Google books excerpt is from page 500-something and I didn't read it thoroughly. I have that book and haven't read it yet so I don't want to read the end ;o). Suffice it to say that if his strange powers have anything to do with beings from off-planet, the book will work. Just make a (relatively spoiler-free) note about how the book fits the task when you post.

If the walking, killer plants come from off-planet, I'd say they'd definitely work as extraterrestrial beings ;o). Yikes!

kiki (keekers) | 815 comments great, thanks! wasn't sure if they had to be more of an animal/human type being.

It sounds like they leave Earth to visit the other world. So, yes, this would work.

I was going to read the classic The War of the Worlds but this looks really good!

The Dangerous Days of Daniel X will definitely work. I'm pretty sure The Host also works, but I haven't read the book and I plan to so I've just skimmed the reviews (if the "invaders" are from outer space, which I think they are, it'll work). Can't tell from the GR description of The Knife of Never Letting Go if it's humans on a different world or if it's just dystopia. If you have more info on that one, I'll be glad to revisit it.

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 1697 comments Thanks Kristi. I don't have much info on The Knife of Never Letting Go. I was checking out reviews, but couldn't tell. Maybe someone else who has read it will see the post and can provide a little more info. I'm going to keep digging, but at least now I have a couple of possibilities.

message 18: by Elliott (new)

Elliott The Knife of Never Letting Go is about people who travel to another planet.

Looks like it will work then, LIsa. Thanks, Lav!!

LIsa - If you decide to read it, make sure you explain in your completed task post how it fits the task since you can't tell from the GR description. Thanks!

message 20: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 1697 comments Thanks Lav and Kristi. Now I have to make a tough decision. It sounds like I might also be able to use The Knife of Never Letting go for Task 30.5B - space travel.

message 28: by Neen (new)

Neen Is it possible The Hellbound Heart would work? The film Hellraiser is based on it.. It's about this man who uses this box to summon these weird creepy people/creatures (cenobites). The trouble is it doesn't really say where they come from whether they are ET beings, but they are certainly not human... Also,
'They can reach Earth's reality only through a schism in time and space, which is opened and closed using certain unearthly artifacts. The most common form for these artifacts is that of an innocuous-looking puzzle box called the Lament Configuration.' nice quote from good old wikipedia, haha..

Sorry, Neen, the Cenobites sound more like demons than aliens. However, the book will work for 10.1 if you don't already have a book for that task. Speculative Fiction is listed as one of its top 10 genres.

I've never read any of the books. Just seen the movies. I assume that the main characters are still Luke, Leia, and Han? If so, they're human and outside the Earth's atmosphere, so the books would work.

Ingathering: The Complete People Stories of Zenna Henderson by Zenna Henderson
from Werner A.'s review:
<>
A genre classic, Henderson's corpus of People stories were mostly written in the 1950s and 60s; they're all collected here, along with the bridging material she wrote for the two partial collections published in her lifetime. Resembling humans physically, and able to intermarry with humans, the People are an alien race who fled their planet around 1890 (the anthology editors' guess, in their appended chronology, is 1900) when their sun went nova; some of them crash-landed in the wilds of Henderson's native Arizona.

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11231 comments Fiona (Titch) wrote: "Would u accept Doctor Who: The War Machines - Ian Stuart Black?"

From the TV shows, I don't think Doctor Who is going to work. If I remember correctly, he travels in time from place to place on Earth, correct? He would need to travel to another planet, the moon, a space station, or some other location outside the Earth's atmosphere (or there would need to be a being from outer space, which I don't see any mention of) for the book to work for this task. If anyone has read this book and can say that he does any of these things, I'll be happy to revisit your request. But for now, I'd have to say no.
