Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11222 comments 10.4 -- Here Kitty, Kitty August 8 is World Cat Day. Read a book with a cat on the cover, the word "Cat" or the name of a type of cat in the title, or a plot where a cat plays a major role. Humans that shift into cats will work, too. Words in the title must be spelled like the cat’s name (i.e., Lion will work, Lyon will not). Plurals and possessives are fine. Diminutives will work (i.e., kitty, kitten, etc.). Ex: Homer's Odyssey, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Kitty and the Midnight Hour

Required: If the connection is not obvious from the GR’s description, explain how the book fits the task when you post.

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments I'm so sorry I already read the book Here Kitty, Kitty! Here Kitty, Kitty! (Magnus Pack, #3) by Shelly Laurenston Pretty far-fetched but a quick read.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3051 comments Would Cream Puff Murder work? Hannah Swensen owns a cat.

Yes, "Cat" in the title works.

No, sorry. Looking more for an actual cat, tiger, lion, leopard, etc.

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11222 comments Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "Would Cream Puff Murder work? Hannah Swensen owns a cat."

Only if her cat plays a major role in the story. Example: The cats Koko and Yum Yum in Lilian Jackson Brown's "The Cat Who..." series would work because they play a significant part in solving the mysteries.

message 16: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandapearl) | 267 comments Could I read Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for this task? Crookshanks is a cat and he plays a major role in this book in particular.

Sure, just make sure to explain how the book fits the task when you post.

message 20: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 1585 comments I think I may go with Murder Past Due if that works.

Yes, any type of cat will work so "tiger" is fine.

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11222 comments Jennifer N. wrote: "Would possessives work too? Like in Cat's Eye?"

Yes, possessives work, too. I've added them to the task description (forgot about them the first go round ;o)).

Good idea. I have that one on my shelf, too! Yes, it'll work.

message 24: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 9046 comments donna jo - have you read her lion shifters? also nalini sighn's psy-changlings - quite a few of them are leopard/jaguar shifts (the first 2 for sure), and then a couple of the later ones

Donna Jo wrote: "I'm so sorry I already read the book Here Kitty, Kitty! Here Kitty, Kitty! (Magnus Pack, #3) by Shelly Laurenston Pretty far-fetched but a quick read."

message 25: by Donna Jo (last edited May 24, 2011 05:52PM) (new)

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments Dee, I did read the first one of Nalini's psy-changlings but couldn't get into it. But this is not my main reading interest, so I'm not a good judge.
I just read the 3 The Magnus Pack books because I got so tickled at the titles for #2 and 3. And I knew from the covers pretty much what to expect (although I didn't expect all the fashion stuff in Kitty, Kitty.) Learning something new every day.

message 26: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 9046 comments the first one is a bit weak, but they get better...i wasn't so sure after the first one either...she also has the lion shifters - which people say are even better than the magnus pack - starts with The Mane Event

message 27: by Donna Jo (new)

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments Thanks, Dee. I'll add that to my books to look for.

message 28: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot How about A Simples Life The Life and Times of Aleksandr Orlov by Aleksandr Orlov -it is the autobiography of a meercat and has the meercat on the cover?

message 29: by Kristina Simon (new)

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11222 comments chucklesthescot wrote: "How about A Simples Life The Life and Times of Aleksandr Orlov by Aleksandr Orlov-it is the autobiography of a meercat and has the meercat on the cover?"

No, sorry. Despite their name, meerkats belong to the mongoose family not the feline family.

message 30: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot I figured it was a long shot! I'll fit him in elsewhere!

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11222 comments Fiona (Titch) wrote: "Copycat - Erica Spindler"

Sorry, Fiona. Plurals and possessives work (cats, cat's, tigers, etc), but compound words won't work for this task.

You're welcome to do that if you'd like, Fiona, but you don't have to. Young reader books like these are OK for 5, 10, and 15 point tasks as long as they are 100+ pages.
