True crime, or fiction? For fiction (police procedural with good characters & a good lead detective): The Laughing Policeman, part of a terrific Swedish series from the 60s (I think) by Maj Sjöwall.
I enjoy Christopher Brookmyre's books. His crime fiction is laced with some dark humour that I like.
Jonathan Hayes has two books Precious Blood and A Hard Death that are really woth a read if you like thr forensic type crime thrillers.

I just read one of her book, it was o.k. The one I read was called
Roseanna
Well, I loved The Laughing Policeman. I had trouble with The Man Who Went Up in Smoke but I think Murder at the Savoy is pretty good.
henning mankell writes good crime thrillers so does james patterson.
im trying to find more authors to try in this genre. any suggestions?
