Keri | 1 comments I have been searching for a book to help through a certain situation and haven't had much luck. Without giving to many details here is what happened...
Have always been close to my parents. Parents have recently accused me of something that I would never think of doing. My Mom has developed a prescription drug addiction, which I believe is the root cause. Now we will never speak again It has even caused issues between my one and only sister and myself. They are all also in denial about her addiction.

I am looking for a book to help me through this. I know I won't find answers but maybe some self-help processes to help my heart break, fear of my children missing out on grandparents, etc. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance,
Keri

L. Soash (KrystalinaSoash) | 7 comments Hi Keri,

I'm truly sorry, and yes, I should come in here more often, I've got too many irons in the fire and am scaling back. I just read your Post and being a writer on self-help I read a lot of literature on the topic and even wrote my own book on the topic.

Your Positive Potential Action Steps for Self-Empowerment by L. Krystalina Soash

Following are just a few of many, many books that helped me through my own 'icky' life experiences:

-- There's a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem by Wayne Dyer

-- Unconditional Life by Deepak Chopra

-- Who Would You Be Without Your Story? by Byron Katie

These are excellent self-help reads that I highly recommend, if you'd like to add more to the list please let me know what you've found. I hope your life has gotten better since you placed this Post.

Sincerely,

~L. Krystalina

Hi Kery, you'd better read: how to win friends and influence people by dale carnegie. Also check other dale carnegie books. They're, I'm sure, best books you need now. Hoping for your better life,

Mohit Jain. Dale Carnegie

Gary Markwick (garymarkwick) | 2 comments Hi everyone,
My new self help book is called "Now it Begins" and is practical and spiritual with ancient learnings and short stories. Split into 10 distinct phases.

"As the world is changing fast, a great shift of universal energy is taking place. Some of us are aware of this and are ready to move forward and leave behind an old world that has suffered from greed, selfishness, anger, blame and hatred. This means, raising our vibration of energy from within and connecting with one another on a higher and faster frequency that is happening now on this planet. For some this is inconceivable and for others, the transformation has already begun".

Love, light and best wishes

Zam | 2 comments Hi Keri,

Sorry to hear about your situation. I hope my response isn't too late. Try this book, "In the Sphere of Silence" by Vijay Eswaran. http://amzn.to/TKeoWw

In the Sphere of Silence by Vijay Eswaran

It's sort of a spiritual/motivational book that has helped me through some tough times.

Let me know how it goes!

Lena Neufeld | 1 comments Another great book is Resolved 13 resolutions for life. By Orrin Woodward. It has a chapter on relationships to finances to leaving a legacy for your children.
It has some great tips to get you through relationship issues. One of the best books I have ever read.

message 10: by Kim (new)

Kim Potts | 1 comments Reinventing Your Life is a great book. I think it could help in this situation.

message 11: by Anthony (new)

Anthony Alegrete (anthony_alegrete) | 3 comments Scar Tissue by Anthony Keidis and Larry Sloman. If you like the red hit chili peppers this book will be an amazing reading. It's an autobiography of the lead singer for the Red Hot chili peppers. And the common theme of the book is his addiction and relationships with his loved ones.

M. N. More (MNMore) | 1 comments A book that has allowed me to center my thoughts and put literally every situation in my life in prospective from the first day I read it, was Law of Success. In this book Napoleon Hill provide a blueprint for anyone to become a better person in a variety of facets. Its not a quick fix, but it will give you a solid foundation to move forward from the situation you just relayed and move forward in other areas of your life.

Books about self help are like drugs. You need more and more. That is some kind of illusions. However searching for good motivation book is like searching for The Holy Grail. This kind of books are not for easy summer reading, that kind has the power to change lives .

message 14: by Max (new)

Max Ong Zong Bao I would definitely go for Law Of Success by Napoleon Hill and i will tell you that it's not a small book but it's definitely worth the time to read.

The other is most properly the bible and as most motivational speaker always endorse the importance of reading it as a book of choice.

Robert Smith (therobertd) | 1 comments I love the amount of recommendations here!! Reading is a great way to develop new ideas. One of my favorites is The Greatest Salesman in the World.

Ye Yao (yeyao2006) | 3 comments Dear all,
M looking for a book that introduces everything in today's business world, such as industries, value chains, established companies etc. just like a encyclopedia, but for business
Any ideas?

message 18: by Max (new)

Max Ong Zong Bao From what i know there's not much books that will teach you everything in business, as the subject is just too much to cover.

If your looking for a book that covers the core subject matter of business that normally could only be gain by taking a MBA in a university.

I would recommend "Personal MBA" by Josh Kaufman

message 19: by Nit (new)

Josh Hinds (joshhinds) | 1 comments I second the suggestions of Robert and Max. The Laws of Success and Three Greatest Salesman in the World are both great books. I would also suggest 'Over the Top' by Zig Ziglar.

Hello Keri,

I am sorry for all that you have gone through. Problems in families can be the most painful. And I can relate. I have a brother who stopped talking to me because he could not handle knowing some things in our family....have another 2 brothers who have been in prison for over 20 years... and a 4th brother who committed suicide 4 years ago. My biological father was last in my life when I was 4 years old, I found him 4 years ago, and after a couple of weeks of talking, he was gone again from my life.

In March of this year I published a book about the power of encouragement.... helping people realize their power to overcome adversity, to see how to encourage themselves and in the process become empowered, and every day ways we can encourage each other. I have already seen that my book has helped many people in a matter of months.

I hope that it can encourage and help you as well. In case you are interested, here is my book:

http://www.amazon.com/Uplifting-One-L...

I wish you all of the best Keri. And if you ever want someone to talk with, I am here.

Take care.
Mary

Max Ong Zong Bao no problem at all Ye!!! it's actually one of the books I plan to read and add to my personal library

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Books about Eft, if you want to change your life. Ultimate tool.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

But I don't know what people really want from self help book's? Short fix or something for all life?

message 26: by Max (new)

Max Ong Zong Bao "Your quality of life is shaped by people you be with, your mentor and also good books that you read." Zig Ziglar

I understand Dragoslav what your trying to mean here and i believe those who read self help books are not going go for short fixes instead they are trying to improve themselves to become better person as a whole a small step at a time.

That's why we have this group. To improve ourselves as a whole and an individual basis by sharing good books to read, even despite the recommendations may be a self help book.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

You are right. Like coin, self help have two sides, first is improving inner self second is like drogs, search for fast fix like junkies.

message 28: by Virginia (new)

Virginia Tell (vtell) | 1 comments "What's Wrong With My Family? and How to Life Your Best Life Anyway" is the second book written by award-winning author Susan Mary Malone and her therapist/doctor brother, Gary Malone, and though it is a psych book, it is really easy to understand.

One of the best attributes of the book is its use of well-known figures in pop culture as analogies for chapter titles to easily and quickly inform the reader of the exact situation discussed. The whole book is like that - even the cover depicts "Alice in Wonderland" characters - the Mad Hatter tells Alice and Rabbit "We're all quite mad here!" Part Two: Parenting and Other Foibles, utilizes popular movie titles such as "War of the Roses: Marital couples in constant conflict." The chapter "Mommy Dearest" is about physically or emotionally ill parents; "Ordinary People" is about family tragedies, "Monster-In-Law"...

I got my copy through Amazon, as I couldn't find it at B&N, and read the whole book even though some chapters didn't apply to my situation because those sections really helped me understand a lot of other people.

Their first book, "Five Keys for Understanding Men" helped me through a lengthy divorce recovery period - although I really should refer to that time as a period of preparation for a new, healthy relationship.

Stephen (sfutado) | 10 comments just finished truly inspiring story. Boyle's Iron Heart. when you come back from death, each and every day becomes precious. time to live each day as if it's your last.

message 30: by Max (new)

Max Ong Zong Bao I have a amazing smart friend that once told me to read autobiographies/biographies of famous people to understand their thinking pattern, how they overcome challenges that they face. Then use what you had learned and apply it to your life.

A great starting point I personally believe is this book called "Team Of Rivals"
