A Scandalous Situationor maybe?
Patricia Frances Rowell is the author. I'm not sure from your discription if this is it.
I am able to search my book catalog by keyword, and here are a couple that might fit:The Duchess of Vidal
Scandalous Journey
It could be the Duchess of Vidal. I'm going to see if my library has it so I can check it out. (Pun intended) (haha) thank you for looking.
I got the Duchess of Vidal, and am reading it now. Wonder of wonders! It is the very book I seek. The stupid thing is, I've picked it up before, wondering if it was the one, but never checked it out. How dumb.Thank you Camy!
Hey I'm glad I was able to help! That's what I love about my book catalog program, I can search for books by keyword.

It's Booxter: http://is.gd/KhPqW6I'm afraid it's only for Macs, but I absolutely love it because you can also get the iPhone app and sync your iPhone to your computer, so you have an updated copy of your book catalog with you on your phone. I've bought duplicate copies of books SO many times it's pathetic!

Kagama, I have a book catalog program called Readerware that also has a keyword field. It's available on PC and Android.
Calibre also works well for Windows, iOS and Linux (not tried on my Android, but don't think so). It's designed for eBooks but you can add 'blank' books (i.e. without an ebook attached to the record) for physical books. Not got that far myself, purely because I'm only about half way through fully indexing the few thousand eBooks I have... I also had a rather nice programme many years ago that I got through these guys: http://www.collectorz.com/book/
Worked well, wasn't horrifically expensive, and let me import records from libraries to save time adding the basic details...
When yall talk about book programs is that to keep track of the books you own or to search through thousands of books? (which would be totally awesome to have every book ever written put down somewhere)
For me, it's to catalog my own books--the ones I own, and also the ones I've read but I don't own anymore. To search for books, I use Goodreads. :) Or, barring that, Google.
My husband bought me a Google Play card for Mother's Day. I had absolutely no idea what to buy with it, but ended up buying an app to keep track of my books and also one for my movies. I'm about halfway done with my movies, but going through my books is looking so daunting. There's just to many!
Nice! I love having a book catalog app on my phone (mine is synced to my computer) because then if I'm out and I see a book, I can check to see if I've already got it. :) I've bought SO many duplicates! It took me a LONG time to catalog my books. I had literally thousands of them (half of that ebooks). I just did a little each day--took only 10 minutes. I was surprised how many books I could input in 10 minutes!
I use both Calibre and Collectorz, and I also have Collectorz on my Ipad, so I can synchronize the two. It is hands down the best software for cataloging books. Pricey, but worth it.

Oh that sounds like something I could consider getting. Is it expensive?

I'm actually not sure if this is a Regency or a Gothic, cause there are qualities of both in it, from what I remember.
