If I had to cast Alex, hands down I would pick Ian Somerhalder.
I don't mean to give the female readers a hard time in choosing over "Team Joel" or "Team Alex" I believe that the way that I wrote it...there just is no choice.
In saying that...Alex has been trying to win over Charlotte's affections for years. As her assistant manager at the bank he has to maintain the professional position as her boss. But she knows by the look in his eyes that he wants more. Still, Alex has slipped effortlessly into the "friend zone". He's sweet, relatable, funny, and has become something of a big brother to Charlotte. Is he content with this spot in her life? Of course not. But what can he do? Charlotte's dated a handful of guys, all hurting her in the end, but she never once considered giving him a chance.
It isn't until Joel enters Charlotte's life that Alex finally seems a become fed up by his "friend" label. Doesn't she see the danger that lies in the mysteries of who Joel is? Does she see nothing past his looks? And if looks are all that matter to her then how is it that she doesn't see him? He's not exactly ugly...
