I've seen that, very sharp looking. I have the original Nook and it's a great device, but I use it mostly for borrowing library ebooks. I'm very much Kindle loyal, and I'm waiting to see what Amazon introduces in the way of a color tablet.

We don't have Barnes and Nobel in the UK so I'm guessing a Nook would be pointless.

Last time I checked "Competitively Priced" was not synonymous with "Superior."

I like the nook better than the kindle. Not only because it is more pleasing to the eye;it is capable of doing more that the kindle is yet to do or just started doing....like lending books, borrowing from the library etc. Even though it came out first, it seems the kindle is following in the steps of the nook. I hear they plan on coming out with a color tablet style version....like the nook color. I played with a kindle and was not impressed. So I kept reading DTB and wasnt interested in an e-reader. When the nook came out and I played with one a bit...I had to have it. I guess it is a matter of preference....I prefer the nook

You are right, Jackie, the Nook Color is not in the same category as the Kindle. The Nook Color aims for a totally different market, IMO. I am very Kindle loyal, but would love to have a Nook Color! I want something to read magazines and children's books. But I'm holding off to see what Amazon offers us when they introduce a color Tablet.

True!! It seems Kindle is only trying to keep up with the Nook! the only reason the kindle may be "more popluar" is because they are available outside the US and the nook is not. I bet if the Nook would be available world wide ...it would definitely take over the e-reader market

The argument might be made that they are all chasing the Sony ereader, which is chasing the RCA/Gemstar ebook, which is chasing ... well, that was one of the earliest reading devices, I know, because I had one.

As much as I love my Kindle, I do accept that each reader has it's strengths and weaknesses, and that people tend to like and support whatever they experienced first. That doesn't stop me from thinking that the Kindle is the superior device!

It does seem that this latest iteration of the Nook is an attempt to keep up with the Kindle ... the color strip is gone from the bottom of the screen, and although it is still a touch screen device, the reading experience (and case color) is much more Kindle-like, as is the pricing.

I also think the Kindle is the superior device, and I own a Nook as well. Especially with the latest generation Kindle, I feel it's superior in screen display, book shelving ability, dictionary look-up feature, lots of things. But I don't want to get into a "which is better" war here. The new Nook looks really great and frankly, the more competition there is in the market, the better for we who are the end users. They can compete with each other all they want, it just makes a better product for all of us. Go ereaders!!

I dont see how the latest nook is an attempt to keep up with the kindle...it is a totally different look and it is totally touch screen. another thing the nook doesnt have that the last kindle has is a bunch of ads. this latest nook is an attempt to attract e-book readers with a device that is more affordable and not laden with stuff that certain folks may not be interested in. a much more simpler device but definitely in a class all its own. not like a kindle at all.

NO NO NO, the Kindle is not the superior device THE NOOK COLOR is! you must be confused.

Kindle-Nook, new nook-new kindle are all in the running together.

THE NOOK COLOR is the superior device! by far exceeds what the aforementioned can do! I'm sure kindle will copy the nook color at some point. :)

Is there where I trot out my tried and true statement ... so, how do you like reading that nook color outside during the day? Can I offer you some aspirin for the eyestrain headaches?

(you are welcome to respond to me in kind when Amazon's predicted color tablet happens. Unless, of course, it uses color e-ink.)

I've actually had a few friends that have switched from Kindles to Nooks and they couldn't be happier. Although one of my friend's main reasons for switching over to the Nook was the ability to borrow ebooks from the library which I do believe Amazon is addressing soon with the Kindle. For me it was the file format that was the deal breaker for the Kindle, I refuse to be tied down to a file format that only one e-ink device and company support. I prefer to have the choice to buy my books where ever I please, along with the comfort of knowing should I choose to switch from my Nook to say a Sony ereader in the future that my books will make the switch with me.

How is the nook to read in direct sunlight? I love my kindle and I'm pretty fanatically loyal, but I do like the lending/library deal with the nook. I do a lot of my reading sitting on the beach or outside in the good weather. Reading in direct sunlight is great with the kindle, but I worry the nook with it's computer like screen will be like trying to read on my iphone - problematic.

My Nook is great in direct sunlight - and you can get screen shields that not only protect from scratches but actually make it even easier to read outside!

Lauren, they have the new Nook with e-ink that you might want to check out. It's similar to the old white nook, but it's touch screen and has limited internet access. I have a friend who has it and she loves it.

I have the NookColor and primarily read in the shade since I'm not one to tan. When I read in sunlight I play with the settings. I usually choose a whiter back ground and brighten the screen which helps me see it better. Yes, you can get some glare even with the anti-glare screen shields, but it's not so bad where it hurts my eyes. This might annoy others...I'm not bothered with it. If it you don't want to finagle with it then go for the new touchscreen one.

That tested all of the available tablets and readers from the perspective of reading books. Overall Kindle combined the best features of book availability, weight, comfort to hold and price. IPod1 received really negative comment about feeling like a "dumbell" to hold.

How do you borrow books from the library thru the nook?

Check your local library's website. I live in Michigan and there is a cooperative of 15 libraries and they use media overdrive to make ebooks available. Before you borrow any books make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Digital Edition, I need that to borrow from my library.

I have a Nook (and old one) and I have the Nook app on my iPad. The only reason I got the Nook is because the battery is easily replace without sending it in to the company to get it replaced. That is what I hate about Apple products, you really can't replace a battery by yourself.
