Has anyone read this series?

If so, what did you think?

This is the series order:

Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris Living Dead in Dallas (Sookie Stackhouse, #2) by Charlaine Harris Club Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #3) by Charlaine Harris Dead to the World (Sookie Stackhouse, #4) by Charlaine Harris Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse, #5) by Charlaine Harris Definitely Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #6) by Charlaine Harris All Together Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #7) by Charlaine Harris From Dead to Worse (Sookie Stackhouse, #8) by Charlaine Harris Dead and Gone (Sookie Stackhouse, #9) by Charlaine Harris Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse, #10) by Charlaine Harris Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse, #11) by Charlaine Harris Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse, #12) by Charlaine Harris Dead Ever After (Sookie Stackhouse, #13) by Charlaine Harris

These are the US covers, so not necessarily the ones you will have, I don't have these covers

Yeah I have the ones before that but after the above but I think I love the above the best :)

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) yea they are nice covers lol

Christina I am on book 9 now (: It's like crack they are so addicting (:

message 6: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) I read up until book 8, but then got turned off by a major inconsistency in Sookie's 'voice', and in the relationship between Sookie and another character (can't recall which character or what the relationship changed from or to--just that the character was suddenly something different to Sookie than initially stated). Up until that point, I was enjoying them.

Jen (jenlr) I've read (and loved) all of the books except for Dead Reckoning. I bought it when it was released but haven't read it yet because I didn't want to get it mixed up with the show. I kindof wish the show was more like the books!

I've read them all too, I love some things the shows done, but hate other bits

message 13: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenlr) I'm definitely more a fan of the books but maybe that's because I read them all before I watched the show.

I know Kay is the opposite. She saw the show first and I don't think she enjoys the books as much. Did I get that right Kay?

I read the books ages before the show, but I had to re-read once I bought them all :D

message 15: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenlr) I borrowed them all from a friend about a year ago and read them in about two weeks. Then a couple months after that I watched the first three seasons of the show.

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) I love these books especially Dead to the World!! I have re-read them and listen to the audiobooks more times that I could count.

Charlaine Harris has a great style of writing, which makes me laugh out loud all the time and cry....even though there is so much going on Vampires, Weres, Shifters and even Fae I can still somehow relate to her character!

I am also a fan of True Blood although I stopped trying to make it be as good as the books I tend to think of it as a stand alone show with just the same characters in it!!

I think people who have read the books first, enjoy the books more, but if you saw the TV show first, you'll like it more over the books, I have yet to meet someone who is vice versa :/

Maria Pussycat I totally agree Cassie.
I am one of the ones who read the books first, or at least the first 3 I think, but I also like the series although I see it as a different entity all together.

I read the books first too as I have read all of them, but I think I like that they have stuck close to the story line and added some raunch ;) But there are a few bits I disagree with on the TV show :/

Maria Pussycat Me too, having read them all by now, I disagree with the tv show at times too, cause is kind of difficult to completely forgot about the books while watching it, but kind of look at it now as almost independent from them...

They kept each series to each book which I like, but some of it doesn't happen in the book or in the TV :/

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) I love these books soooo much I have started listening to the Audio book versions AGAIN!! :D

Katie (snowqueen) | 1 comments I've only read a couple of the books so far, but I'm loving the TV series!

message 24: by Carole-Ann (last edited Jun 11, 2012 10:08AM) (new)

Carole-Ann (blueopal) I've read up to about book 8 or 9, and...tailed off. Don't know why, but I think it's because I got turned off by the TV series.

I watched the first season - sometimes gasping in outrage at the storyline - which didn't correspond with much in the books - and the outright sexuality of the series DID turn me off.

So, yes, the books are very good (up to a point); the TV series didn't do it for me (there were so many 'sensational' bits that I thought unnecessary); and I'm a been there, done that, got the t-shirt etc etc person - and now I don't really care (sorry to all the fans out there!) :(

ETA: Don't get me wrong - I didn't mind the sexy bits in the TV series - but I think HBO was attempting a more 'sensational' and jaw-dropping approach which I didn't appreciate. IMO, I think Harris is now writing for screen, rather than reader :(

message 25: by Kay (new)

Kay | 2 comments I love these books, they are different to the tv series (if you've watched it) not by a whole lot but you'll be able to tell. They are brilliantly written and keep you hooked. I would definitely recommend this series :) xx

Yeah is definitely a good series, just passed it on to my sister to read.

But is very different from the tv series mainly, just due to characters and ranchiness. But at least the series is loosely based around each book.

message 27: by Anna (last edited Feb 13, 2013 04:55AM) (new)

Anna I've read to 9, Dead and Gone. Lost interest now. Found them ok but dull. Nothing really to get excited about for me. Also losing interest in the TV show- currently watching series 3- mainly kept going because Jason is hilarious and Jessica is fun, but neither is really written like that in the books.

Jess isn't even in the books, is she?

message 29: by Anna (new)

Anna No she belongs to the series not the books. :(
