I loved this book. An urban fantasy with a bearded, sandal-wearing tea-drinking apothecary owner as the protagonist.Atticus O'Sullivan is 2100 year-old Druid who looks 21. He has spent his long life improving his magic, and has taught his dog to mind-speak. Oberon is an Irish Wolfhound with a penchant for sausages and French Poodles. Their interaction is a big part of the charm of this book.
I did find it interesting that the gods/goddesses are showing up in a plethora of new books out this season.
For example, Morrigan shows up in this book as well as in another recent book (view spoiler)
Atticus has a vampire and a were for lawyers, and their appearance/dialog are awesome.
I liked the book as well. At first, I was not impressed with the cover, but it really fit the book. The more I read, the more I appreciated the cover. This book was much different from the October Daye series, but the author's voice seemed similar. I liked the Irish lore and the tenuous relationship between Atticus and the fae. It was interesting to see how the author combined the Irish lore with witches, vampires and werewolves. Oh, and the names of his teas definitely made me chuckle!
I was really looking forward to this one, but just couldn't get into it. I would read a paragraph, them my mind would wander for a few minutes. I would try to read again only to have the same thing happen. This one just wasn't for me.
I finished it and really enjoyed it. I loved the sci-fi references and Oberon's humor in general. The mythology was also great. Looks like the author really loves the legends and brought them to life in a fun and exciting way!
News from Kevin's website:"Del Rey has signed me up for books 4-6 of The Iron Druid Chronicles... "
"The books will be called Tricked, Trapped, and Hunted, and I have outlined all three."
"I can give you extremely tentative release dates now, with the caveat that poo happens and the guarantee that I will keep you informed when I know something more concrete.
Right now we are looking at a May ’12 release for Tricked, a December ’12 release for Trapped, and a summerish ’13 release date for Hunted."
Let's all hope that poo does not happen.
