Brandi (brandimw) | 6 comments Is anyone interested in reading a book together as a group? I'm sure everyone has busy lives, but it would be a great way to get this group going and share feedback on something as we figure it out together. We could also just read selected chapters of certain books together and discuss them. If you're interested, place your recommendations below. We can even create a goodreads poll if you'd like.

My recommendations:
Between Race and Empire: African-Americans and Cubans before the Cuban Revolution, by Lisa Brock and Digna Castenada-Fuertes
The Island Beneath the Sea/ La isla bajo el mar- Isabel Allende

UrbanWildflower | 2 comments I am not particularly interested in reading a book together right now (too many books in my cue for that, lol!). I will say that I read La Isla bajo el mar back in March and I really enjoyed it if that's appropriate to say. The characters stayed with me long after the book was over. The downside was that it was my third in trio of books on the topic (the first two were The Book of Night Women and Wench.) My locks were on fire when I was done.

Dahlma (carisa49) | 6 comments I would be interested in sharing a read. I especially like fiction and will recommend something in the near future. But like UrbanWildflower, I'm in the midst of tons of reading right now. Maybe the fall would be a good time to do this, when we all slow down for the coming indoor winters months. By the way, I also recently read La isla bajor el mar and Wench and had lots of thoughts about each one. After that, I just couldn't go on to The Book of Night Women which is also on my pile of books waiting to be read. Right now I'm reading The Island of Eternal Love about the of each of the black/Chinese/Spanish families that form the core of the book. Looking forward to sharing in the future.

UrbanWildflower | 2 comments Dahlma, THe Island of Eternal Love sounds interesting. I am going to add it to my pile.

Everyone, if you have not read Daughters of the Stone make sure you add it to your pile. It is a beautiful book. I have it listed as one of my favorite books. I have bought it for my mother and my aunties and they loved it too.

Dahlma (carisa49) | 6 comments Urban Wildflower I'm so glad you liked my novel. I haven't really written much about it in these pages but always am interested in what readers have to say. Thanks for the plug.

Alexis | 1 comments Wow. I was just searching for a group like this because I just finished Daughters of the Stone (I absolutely loved it, I could not put it down_ and want to find more books like it. I added it to the bookshelf and then found this discussion.
