These past couple of days I've been going through and revising Volition again to resubmit for publication. You might ask yourself, didn't she already revise before publishing the book? Isn't that the point?
Well, there are a few reasons as to why my first submission of this book for publication is noticeably imperfect. Firstly, I didn't have the financial resources to have the book edited professionally. As you might already know, I wrote this series during my husband's past deployment. Publishing for me was a far off dream. When I found out about Createspace I was excited to try my hand and publishing it myself. I had plenty of friends read it first but no one actually checked for grammar or spelling. So I went through and revised it several times on my own but you can only catch so much when it's your own work, especially when reading it back-to-back. You end up reading in a trance.
I published the book when I did because I had submitted queries (very amateur...I had no idea what I was doing) and had received no interested agents. Usually this would discourage me and I would give up. But this time I wanted to keep going and I felt that if I didn't publish it soon I never would.
With sales on the rise and time lapsed between the last time I went through and read it for revisions I wanted to go through again and revise the books. I had help from my mom with revising Severance so I'm not going to worry so much about that. I've tweaked a few things and will resubmit it as well but for now I'm not worried about it.
Revising the book myself also allows for me to improve in my writing, which, as a young writer, I know is important for me to do. It's always good to be able to look back on your work and find fault...not that finding faults is a good thing, but that you can recognize your own flaws. It means your skills are improving.
I'm at the beginning of my "career". Hopefully it'll turn into a "career". So I hope that readers will understand that I'm still finding my way. I'm still learning and navigating through the system. I enjoy writing... bottom-line, so I hope that you can enjoy reading my books! And even more so I hope to improve my writing with experience and that my readers grow with me and enjoy my work as it evolves.
