This book is probably YA and involves a girl that is part of a family of "dreamers", they go into a different realm and catch dreams, then go to sleep theatres where the audience can experience the dream. There are actually two books, the first and the sequel. There is also a man made out of mud and a fire.

I'm pretty sure you are talking about Dreamhunter by Elizabeth Knox.
