This is a fun chapter to read. I've heard that some companies (Google?) let employees do "fun research" in 20% of their time. It would be great to use 1 day per week for continuing education and projects I'm interested in. Yes, I feel that dedicating time is more difficult than doing the work to continue your education.
It would be a good chapter to read every time I start to feel a little too comfortable at work. It reminded me about my educational and professional goals. I agree that learning to learn is very important skill not only in software development, but probably in life too. I've heard about "fun research" at Google. I think I read about it in Wired magazine some time ago. If I remember correctly "fun project" has to be approved by management, but it's a nice opportunity to learn. It would be nice to work for company that values education and employees' personal goals...

Then again, as a book club member reading this comment, you already know all this!
