I said that I was going to enter the Cuyahoga County Fair this year (which is in August), and I am. I have requested my booklet that contains all the entry information and I have been informed that the books will go out June 17. Nerves!

On the frustrated part, my local store that normally carries a key ingredient to the cookie has been out of it for months! I have not had a chance to look at other stores in the same chain (and they will MUCH cheaper at this chain than at the grocery) and it I looking for a specific brand because that is what the recipe was built around. Argh!

I will keep you all posted on the fair front as we get closer to it.

Success! I found the key ingredient over the weekend at a different store in the chain that I was looking for it in the first place. Now, I await the mail...

It's official. As of yesterday morning, I have entered the fair. I will be making 2 cookies and 2 quick breads.

I am scared spitless.

Well, the fair is this week and Narzain and I went yesterday. Only cookies and cakes have been judged, quick breads will be today. I know all you want to know how I did. I lost. I did not even get an honorable mention. I was beaten by a peanut butter cookie and a snickerdoodle got honorable mention.

Yesterday, I was ready to give up baking. I was and am so very hurt. No, it is not because I did not win. I was prepared for that. It is WHAT I lost too. Best in show for cookie was a VERY lame decorated cookie that was supposed to look like a flip-flop sandal. Narzain said that he could have done it better and he is right.

Why am I hurt? Because I dared to be different and I was beaten down by commonality. Evidently I am not cut out for fairs, I would be better in a bake off or something. Right now I feel broken and hurt and do not wish to bake anymore. This may change and no, it will not even if my breads do well.

Maybe I am just burned out, I don't know. The new cookie recipe that I made is up and changes to Chocolate Coconut Chip, Apricot Nut Bread and Chocolate Covered Cherry bread (my other entries) are posted.

I am not entering any more fairs. The cost of ingredients and entry out weigh the prize monies and my emotional investment.

Comfort and huggies to you. Sorry I haven't been posting... I have been rather under the weather and now have no teeth. I am fighting with Medicaid as they do not want to pay for an upper plate, just the lower plate. Anyway, PLEASE consider entering the bakeoffs. Your recipes are WONDERFUL (and should have beaten the tar out of peanut butter and snickerdoodles!)

With wonderful friend like you, I will continue to bake for an vastly appreciative audience.

(Try Aspen Dental for a plate. Connie said that they will work with you on payments and my grandma just go dentures from them and she had to pay for them 'cause Medicare doesn't and they were very affordable.)

Thanks. Keep you fingers crossed, I go September 15th for the appeal hearing for Medicaid. They approved the lower but not the upper plate and I am trying to get them to pay for it as well.

Oh. And I start back to CSU the 29th for a Master's in English

I won 2 tickets to the Cleveland Browns vs. Packers pre-season game via my county library summer reading program. Part of my prize was being and American Flag bearer during the National Anthem. The game was 8-13-11.

As for the game.....I am still flying high. We got there and found out that there were 2 events going on. Season ticket holders were going to do a spirit flag and the library winners the American flag. The flag we held was 40 yards. I got to stand on the 50 yard line, got high fived by several players, and got to sit in really cool seats. The Cleveland Browns organization is a very wonderful group. Not only the event staff but the stadium staff too. They did provide food for all of us, but since it was hot dogs and I don't eat meat, I had to wait a little until the game and I got some pizza. I did have a little trouble walking since my left knee decided to act up last week and held over this week. Due to that, the staff was very accomodating. They let me through the gates to the escalator, let me sit in empty seats that were lower than our ticketed seats and took me out of the stadium by wheel chair at the end of the game when I had trouble walking. They even took me to the curb so that I wouldn't have to step down into the street! We won by the way 27-17.

I told Narzain on the way home that I can't wait to get back into the kitchen and bake. I had the icing on the cake moment when I got home and found a message from my best friend Karen. She called me from the fair to tell me that her quick bread took 3rd place. It seems a Chocolate Covered Cherry Bread took 2nd! I won second! I just picked up my ribbon and my $2 check!
