Right now I am reading the Teen book "The Demon Trappers Daughter" It's pretty good so far. The main character is an apprentice Demon Trapper who has only been trained to trap the lowly demons but suddenly something bigger is after her. I like the demons in this book-one is a bibliofiend and it hates books and will pee on you. They are often found destroying books in libraries. The author of this book has said that she would be willing to give us free swag! So yay!
I usually have 2 or 3 books going at once. Right now I'm reading 2 and listening to one. I'm listening to Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex by Mary Roach. It's a nonfiction book about sex research and its very informative and hilarious. Of course when listening in my car I have to make sure my windows are rolled up before I start getting weird looks from people. I'm also reading another nonfiction book for another goodreads group I'm in. The book is House of Wisdom: How the Arabs Transformed Western Civilization by Jonathan Lyons. Its not something I would pick up on my own but it's still pretty interesting. The last book I am currently reading is Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly which is a young adult book about a modern girl who finds a diary from the French Revolution. It's been pretty good so far and I'm excited to see what happens. I try to have books on hand for all of my many moods.
I'm about to start Accidentally Catty and when that is done, I'm moving on to the new Ilona Andrews.
I am reading the Linda Robertson series right now. It's about a witch who kennels werewolves during their time of the month. She suddenly realizes that she is more powerful that she had ever realized, just in time to attract the attention of a hot werewolf and a powerful vampire. She is suddenly thrown into the middle of ancient prophecies and power plays between fairies, witches, vamps and werewolves. And the fairies in this series are defintely no tinkerbells.
I just finished reading Linda Robertson's Vicious Circle last week and can't wait to get the next one. I really enjoyed it. Now I'm reading Ilona Andrews' Magic Slays. This one seems to be starting out slow but I know it will pick up soon.
I just started reading "A Brush of Darkness" by Allison Pang. There is a pervy unicorn that likes to dry hump peoples leg. Needless to say, this book is pretty amusing
You've just ruined my childhood image of unicorns Jessica. I'm going to have to toss the collection now. I've started reading The Mortal Instruments/Infernal Devices series. Borders is closing (WAHHHH!!!!) and my husband just picked me up City of Glass and City of Ashes for cheap. To bad they didn't have the rest.
The unicorn one sounds awesome, but the library doesn't have it.Just started the second "Women of the Otherworld" book by Kelley Armstrong except my cats keep hiding it from me. It seems like this series could hold my interest for a while
Random things to do: August 3rd we are hosting Book Lover's Trivial Pursuit @ 3:00-library staff versus patrons :) On August 6th we are hosting The Carolina Paranormal Society (who are affiliated with TAPS) as they tell us what it means to be a ghost hunter. I have recently become a member of this group and I go on my first investigation next weekend. Hopefully, I will survive this event
I just started reading [book:A Charmed Death|512386. So far it's kept me interested. Its the fun break I've needed from all the serial killers I usually read about.
Hey, we just had someone donate books based on the TV series Angel and Charmed if anyone wants me to hold them for you to buy
I just started a YA series called Raised by Wolves-It is about a human teenager who has literally been raised by wolves after her parents was killed by a rogue wolf when she was four years old. I am only about 50 pages into but so far it is really good. She has been raised as part of the pack but she doesn't fit into the usual heirarchy which causes problems. Bryn is feels suffocated by the packs need to protect and shelter her so she does what she can to rebel. We have just ordered this book plus the sequal for the library.
I just finished Die for Me. It was your typical YA paranormal romance. The hero is a "zombie" who dies to save others. He's totally hot though... Not you typical zombie. I also read Queen of Attolia. More of a fantasy book. Just a really good book. It's part of a series.
I'm on to Hex Hall. I've heard good things...
I enjoyed Hex Hall and the next one in the trilogy :) I am going to put Die for Me on hold-the cover is really pretty :)
The Hex Hall books were lots of fun. Gotta love sarcastic humor. Now I'm waiting on Touch of Frost and four other books. I just know they'll all come in at once!
Just finished Grave Witch by Kalayna Price-it was pretty good. The main character can speak with the dead and actually has a pretty decent relationship with Death himself. Her latest case thrusts her into the eye of the public and makes her confront her family "issues" while dealing with a mysterious, hot detective. I really enjoyed this book and I cannot wait to start the next one in the series.
I just finished "The Visibles" by: Sara Shepard, who is also the author of the Pretty little Liars series. It's a thoughtful account of a woman who constantly feels she needs to rescue people: her father, her aunt, her boyfriend. Then she learns to gets real with how she really feels and learns to stand on her own. :)
If anyone liked the show The Killing I have several really neat bookmarks that AMC sent us to promote the show. Let me know if you want one.
I am about to start Dead as a Doornail by Charlaine Harris. I've read everything up to this point and I know it's going to be a good read. I'm also skimming through some Rachel Ray cookbooks.
I am reading invinvcible by sherrilyn kenyon. It is the second book in the Chronicles of Nick series. So far so good.
I am just started Assassin's Creed: The Secret Crusade by Oliver Bowden. I am 5 chapters in and so far it is great. I can't wait to see how it ties into the next two in the series.
I challenge you! What book have you recently read that you think the library needs to order and why?
I just finished the book Speelbound by Cara Lynn Shultz and it was great! After several tragedies, Emma Connor moves in with her aunt and beings attending a posh new prep school. With everything going on in her life, she just wants to blend in at her new school. Of course, things don't always go as planned. The very first day she makes enemies of several popular kids, who try to make her life a living hell. Thankfully, she also makes friends with several people who help her to get through small things like magic issues and tragic curses ;) And of course, she meets her soul mate. If only he would pay attention to her!
I just finished A Great and Terrible Beauty. Its a really great book about a girl who is sent to boarding school in Victorian England after tragedy befalls her family in India. Once there she discovers that things at the school are not at all what they seem and that she has powers beyond her wildest dreams. Its a good book for those of you who like magic and dark, Gothic novels.
Yay!!! I have 3 books on hold right now and hopefully will make my way there tomorrow. Right after I find a sander.
Just finished the YA book Texas Gothic. It was really good! The main character, Any, spends all of her time trying to appear normal to counter act her wacky witch relatives. Over the summer she is asked to house sit for her aunt on her ranch in Texas with her cooky sister. While there, she discovers that the area is being haunted by a violent ghost and it is her responsibilty to take care of the apparation. She just wants to live a normal, nonwitchy life. Due to her families reputation, no one views her as normal, especially her hunky cowboy neighbor, who always seems to catch her when she is partially nude :)
I used to have a neighbor that always seemed to catch me partially nude. The police had to speak with him about that. ;) I'm still reading the last 2 Moning books. I think I have the hots for Barrons. I've been so busy with the nursery, I haven't had time to really sit and read. How depressing!
Barrons is totally yummy...in an evil, you may have to stab him after you sleep with him kinda way ;)
yeah, psychotic hot guys seem fun at first...and then things go awry...but they reel you in each time with those crazy eyes!
ok, so I have an advance copy Plain Fear Forsaken-an amish vampire story (I know, right?) -does anyone want this? If you don't live in the area, I will glady mail it to you.
Just finished re-reading Kristin Cashore's novel Fire-Love this series. It's a fantasy teen fiction. Fire is a monster, the only human monster in the world. Her beauty makes you either love or hate her and it keeps her from connecting with others. Against her wishes, she is forced to help the King in preventing a major war. Fire feels obligated to help the King because her father, a deceased fellow monster, helped create this war. Will she find acceptance at the palace? Can anyone look beyond the beautiful monster shell to find the human girl who lies underneath?

you can decorate for all the different doctors and have them on the same plate! that would equal nerd awesomeness!
Sorry. Got a bit glassy eyed in nerd heaven for a moment... Between Gingerbread Doctor Who and seeing a photo of Castiel (from Supernatural) holding a sonic screwdriver, it's been a great weekend. I finally picked up Jennifer Esteps and Katie McAlisters new books today. I really prefer when BAM was Borders. Grrrr.....
umm, I got to see Castiel at Dragon Con...someone had made a Castiel puppet for him...he was adorable!
Help! I'm stuck in a rut. I've had sooo much going on lately that I just can't seem to get into a book-I'm working on like 5 right now. I need a suggestion to help me get out of my lackluster book rut.
Put down the books and back away slowly! Don't look at them, think of them (well maybe just one of them), and do not read them for a week. You'll miss them so much by then, you'll be dying to pick them up and read them. Hope this will help.
So I took your advice and stepped away from the books and went to Trader Joes last night...now I have yummy food and I am excited about several books that just came in :)
