did anyone watch last nights episode??? Oh MY GOD!!!! ok so what happens to you when you drink vamp blood... (i wont say it for those who didn't see it yet) but really??? only HBO would do that lol. is the books the show is based on like that? i couldn't stop laughing last night.
I read this book a few weeks ago and am working on book 2. They are wonderful books. I got my husband to watch the series. I would recommend them to anyone who loves vampires. I love how everyone has thier own idea of how a vamp should be.
I'm hearing a lot of people implying that True Blood and Charlaine Harris "borrowed" ideas from Twilight. Here's some food for thought. Dead Until Dark was first published in 2001. Twilight wasn't published until 2005. Hmmmm.Don't get me wrong. I am absolutely addicted to Twilight but I'm just as hooked on Ms. Harris's Southern Vampire Mysteries. I bought Dead Until Dark at lunch yesterday. I'm done already and counting the hours until lunch today so I can buy book 2.
For those of us that have been interested in vampires long before Twilight, it is fascinating to see everyone's different takes on them.
How are the books? Are they using the same storyline? I'll probably get it at the library it's not like Twilight saga where I'd want to keep it for future reads hehe =) I love SM's Vampires that it irks me when I see typical sleep in coffins, can't be in the sun and corny fangs on TV. But I gotta say the idea of synthetic blood and vampire rights is pretty entertaining.
There are 8 books in the series. I think they are as good as Twilight. I'm having trouble coping with the fact that book 2 seems to be hard to find. I finally decided to order it from Amazon and it won't be here until October 6! And Jake - the synthetic blood is TruBlood. The show is True Blood. :-)
Oh yes they are good. I mean I am still in love with Twilight but the Sookie series is good. I am only on book 2 of the Sookie books but so far so good. Plus I still read the Twilight series from time to time. lol
Yeah, Ive just saw the first two episodes. It was interesting. But theres too much stuff in it that I have to cover my dogs eyes and fast forward some of those stuff. I think its cool though.Still twilight.
funny thing is I was expecting worse when it came to the sex scenes. I mean it IS HBO and the books are pretty sexual...
I could not watch it due to the excessive violence and sexual content (my younger siblings were visiting!) I enjoyed Moonlight better, it used to air on CBS every friday then they cancelled it. *sigh*

The main character is a girl in her 20’s named Sookie. She’s telepathic and doesn’t date due to the fact that she can hear the piggish intentions of guys her age. She works as a waitress and one day at work a vampire walks in she’s instantly attracted to him, he’s easy on the eyes and she can’t hear his thoughts she’s drawn to him (hmm cafeteria scene comes to my mind). Like Bella she doesn’t share the same fear those around her have for vampires.
Her love interest is permanently in his 30’s he’s from the civil war time his name is Bill. In this series, the vampires are slowly integrating into society and the Japanese have developed synthetic blood for vampires called ‘Trueblood’ which provides all the essential nutrients a vampire needs (a vegetarian vampire… sounds familiar). Bill wants to maintain the little humanity he has left.
There is also a Jacobesque character the Manager/Owner Sam of the restaurant Sookie works for is utterly in love with her and he’s a genuine upstanding guy. He wants to protect Sookie but will also support her in what she wants.
So check it out and I’d like to hear your thoughts. I’ve enjoyed the 2 episodes hating when it ends. I think I'll be reading 'Dead until Dark' since series seems to be pretty good. Oh and it's a series of books that should help with my Twilight withdrawals!!
