I can't pick a favorite, but here's a fun interview with Tamora Pierce where she outlines how she plans fight scenes. It's fun to see how much thought goes into it.

Yeah, getting kicked in the head loses its charm as one grows older too. I've had my teeth for a while now and I'd prefer to keep them for a bit longer. I still work out but make sure I wear head and face protection.


My personal vote goes to Richard Monaco, who wrote an Arthurian series based around Parsival and the Grail Quest. He was a fine writer all around, but most of all, I think he wrote the best fight scenes than any other writer that I've personally encountered. They were viceral and detailed, but not too mechanical and self-concious.
