Being that fantasy books or all genres, especially Dark Fantasy seems to often have characters that are martially inclined, I was wondering if anyone has an opinion of who writes the best fight scenes.

My personal vote goes to Richard Monaco, who wrote an Arthurian series based around Parsival and the Grail Quest. He was a fine writer all around, but most of all, I think he wrote the best fight scenes than any other writer that I've personally encountered. They were viceral and detailed, but not too mechanical and self-concious.

Janet | 9 comments I can't pick a favorite, but here's a fun interview with Tamora Pierce where she outlines how she plans fight scenes. It's fun to see how much thought goes into it.

Thank you Jan. I did like that. Hope you haven't been in too many fights yourself lately.

Nope, I mostly teach non-contact, fitness kickboxing (can't afford the insurance for sparring yet). :)

Yeah, getting kicked in the head loses its charm as one grows older too. I've had my teeth for a while now and I'd prefer to keep them for a bit longer. I still work out but make sure I wear head and face protection.
