You are doing fine, if it gets quiet I will try and blitz on posts.Perhaps need a TV topic in other - maybe even a compare film/tv to book one.
Watching 'The Pacific' at present - way below the standard of Band of Brothers.
Reality TV avoidance at home becoming a problem, as 'Four in a Bed' and repeats of the 'Crystal Maze' have joined the ever present 'Come dine with me' - but at least I read at the sametime, although talking to 'she who must be obeyed' at the same time is one task too far. Often in the Shed (dog house) !
How about one great classic every quarter? I've just finished Les Miserable for another group, it's one I've meant to read for ages, and took forever to read. Despite the time consuming aspect (it was a slow read and it took several attempts to find a decent translation), it was very rewarding.
I like Chris's idea. I liked to visit some of the classics that I wouldn't pick on my own. Does anybody have a suggestion for the first one?
I'd take about 3 months to read Ulysses. It's enormous!I like this idea (but not sure about Ulysses).
I think it's a great idea. Some suggestions:David Copperfield
The Turn of the Screw
The Return of the Native
Gulliver's Travels
Shall we suggest some more and then have a poll?
I can only think of two ways to choose books: either we have a poll or everyone interested in reading classics gets a turn to nominate a classic of their choice. Of the two, I think polls are better, but I'm open to other methods of choosing.

I like polls as they are easy to answer.

Any more suggestions for threads or challenges that the group should have? Please share your ideas.
I know it's used in other groups, but I like the idea of an A-Z challenge, but not having to say which books you're going to read prior to reading them - if you see what I mean! Then you have the freedom to read what you like, but have to consider the author's surname so you can fulfil the challenge.
Bridgette wrote: "do you think that the group should have a monthly readathon? any more suggestions??"HI Bridgette---what do you mean by a readathon? I'm not sure I'm understanding the context? Something different than the monthly read in a specific genre that we already do?
i mean gy a readathon is that we would like a week where we each have own target goal of hours that we plan to read for and see if we can reach it. that will be the point of the readathon. it should be fun. :)

The observant anongst you will notice that I have been "cleaning" off the old threads again. Anything that hadn't been looked at in over 12 months has been deleted or given the kiss of life with a new post such as this one. Please feel free to add new topics yourself, or send me a msg and I'll do it for you. I was also thinking that our group pictures could do with a bit of oomph and a facelift, and wondered if anyone has any time they could donate to finding / creating a new group picture and "banner". I'd do it myself, but I'm afraid I lack the imagination and skills.
Hi all group members,
Just wondering if there is any group suggestions on what the group could work on in the new year so we can keep everyone active and discussing more from anything to everything. whether its more group reads or challenges, more varied topics. Im sure me and Chris wont mind applying the suggestions to the group. the group could do with the members input to attract more new members and make them feel welcome and to keep them active in the group.
cheers
