I've finally gotten my copy of the book and started it over the weekend.Did the rest of you read the introduction first? I did--am never sure if I should read it first and have some context or just jump right in reading the work. Ideally, I like to go back and read the intro AFTER reading the book, but this one is so short I took the time.
So far, I like the writing style--easy to follow and and interesting story, but I haven't gotten too far.
I did read the introduction. I don't know about your edition but mine was written by a Leonard Tancock. It sort of gave away a lot but it was nice to understand where Diderot was coming from before reading the book.
I am about halfway through the book now. Is it only the two of us reading it?I'm enjoying the writing style--reads much easier than I thought it would--given the age and that it is is a translation.
But I have to say, I am getting a bit tired of reading all of these descriptions of how badly she is being treated--I agree that it does seem like a lot of effort for just one nun. She seems to just make things worse for herself by being so inconsistent.
I'm thinking it may just be the two of us. Hopefully with October's book we'll have more participants and therefore, more discussion.
I would have joined in, but my plate was a little too full of books and I found you guys a little too late in the month! :) I will definately be in for October, whatever the pick may be.

Wouldn't it be obvious to everyone or no one?
Also, I find it hard to believe that such a concerted effort would be made to bully and harass one nun.
