I'm currently reading this book and I like it so far. It's pretty funny. I just have one question for everyone: If you had gum stuck in your pubic hair, would you let it stay there until it hardened into a rock and then cover your privates in peanut butter trying to get it out?? Or would you just cut it out like a sensible person?
ewwww! this question is R rated, and i object! however, i think cutting it out would be better. i thought this book was really funny and awesome and surprisingly educational. most books about mormans portray them as freaks, and this one made them seem pretty normal. all the stuff about the testing of atomic bombs also was interesting to me, and i've never read any books that talk about that. also, it reminded me a little of fight club, because of all the fighting and explosions, and that little boy fighting himself while everyone ignored him. that part was really sad!
I am half way through this book and heehawing my head off at times. I think i'm going to like it if it ends up the way i want it to, which i assume it won't since its about a sorry mess of a family to begin with. some of my favorite characters are Rusty and Trish. About the gum in the pubic hair... what kind of idiot would put peanut butter in their pubic hair???
listening to mother read this book reminded me of how much i loved the book when i read it last summer. every few minutes she would start giggling and he-hawing and i'd have to say "what's so funny?" and she would relate the antics of rusty usually, trying on girls underwear and the like. reading it so long ago will make it hard for me to give a detailed review, but i did really love this book and find it hilarious.
You'll be surprised how much comes back to you. I wrote a review for a book I read ten years ago!
Ha ha! I am "he-hawing" my head off reading these comments - LOL! The book is just kind of "eh..." so far, though. But I'm not very far into it. I do like the little kid who is always running around naked - reminds me of when we were all little. :-)
Elana - your comment was hilarious! And Lena, I am 99% sure that Anna only wrote that because of the rules. :-)
Okay I'm about 1/3 of the way through The Sex Lives of Polygamists.... :-) It has definitely grown on me - it just took me a little while to get into it. Parts of it are truly LOL-funny, and other parts are just awkward and embarassing, and I don't like to think of my mom reading them. :-) I am still not crazy about the main character, although he's not all that bad - mostly I feel sorry for him most of the time, as he's such a lunk. But I really like the parts about Rusty and also Trish - she's my favorite character so far.
I don't feel sorry for Golden at all. He's a total pig. But I just got to the part where he's shaving bits of his hair off, which is pretty funny. The parts about Rusty are my favorite (but also really sad). I'm on disc 13 of 20.
yes, the shaving part is funny! I dunno if he's a "total pig", but hes not a smart man, thats for sure.
