Lori (moderatrixlori) Book related blogs are a great place to find suggestions, reviews and lists. Our July book of the month nomination process has two parts. Part one is to find an LGBT YA book blog and part two is to nominate one of the books mentioned on that blog.

Schedule:

6/25 - Nominations accepted

6/28 - Nominations closed, poll posted

6/30 - Poll closes and BOM is announced.

Guidelines:

1. One nomination per member.

2. New or upcoming releases are acceptable as long as they will be available early enough in the month to allow time to finish them in the month they were selected.

3. Please do NOT nominate a book that is part of a series unless it is the first book (at the moderator's discretion a new release in a popular series may be selected as an additional choice)

4. Nominations should include:

Name and URL of the Blog
Title of the book
Author
Blurb
Available format
Where to read or download

Lori (moderatrixlori) I'm going to nominate Freak Show by James St. James.

Blog: Gay YA - The Ultimate Gay Reading List

Billy Bloom is gay, but it's mostly theoretical, as he hasn't had much experience. When he has to move to Florida, he can't believe his bad luck. His new school is a mix of Bible Belles, Aberzombies, and Football Heroes, none of which are exactly his type. Billy's efforts to fit in and stand out at the same time are both hilarious and heartrending. In this novel from adult author and media personality James St. James, readers are in for a wild ride as he tells Billy's fascinating story of bravado, pain, and unexpected love, inspired by his own experiences.

Available Format: Hardback, Paperback, Kindle

Ez (ezrah-rah) I'll nominate The Vast Fields of Ordinary by Nick Burd.

Blog: Gay YA
Blurb:
It's Dade's last summer at home. He has a crappy job at Food World, a "boyfriend" who won't publicly acknowledge his existence (maybe because Pablo also has a girlfriend), and parents on the verge of a divorce. College is Dade's shining beacon of possibility, a horizon to keep him from floating away.

Then he meets the mysterious Alex Kincaid. Falling in real love finally lets Dade come out of the closet—and, ironically, ignites a ruthless passion in Pablo. But just when true happiness has set in, tragedy shatters the dreamy curtain of summer, and Dade will use every ounce of strength he's gained to break from his past and start fresh with the future.

Mandapanda I'd like to nominate Rise of Heroes by Hayden Thorne. It's the first in the Masks series and I saw it mentioned over in the MM group. I haven't read YA MM before and I'm looking forward to starting.:) Here's the blurb:

"Strange things are happening in Vintage City, and high school goth boy Eric seems to be right in the middle of them. There's a new villain in town, one with super powers, and he's wreaking havoc on the town, and on Eric's life. The new super hero who springs up to defend Vintage City is almost as bad, making Eric all hot and bothered, enough so that he almost misses the love that's right under his nose.

Peter is Eric's best friend, and even if he does seem to be hiding something most of the time, he finds a way to show Eric how he feels in between attacks on trains and banks and malls. The two boys decide to start dating, much to the chagrin of their other best buddy, Althea, who has a terrible crush on Peter, and a secret or two of her own to keep.

As the fight between the villain, known as the Devil's Trill, and superhero Magnifiman picks up, Eric's relationship with Peter almost ends before it begins when Eric finds out about Peter's special talents, which might just rank Peter as a superhero in his own right.

When the Trill takes an interest in Eric, too, Peter and Althea, along with Magnifiman and Eric's normal, middle-class family all have to work together to keep Eric, and their city, safe. Can they figure out the super villain's plan in time?"

Lori (moderatrixlori) Don't forget this is a two part nomination process. First you find a YA blog, it doesn't have to be the one I found, then you nominate a book from the blog. Part of the fun of this is discovering new LGBT YA blogs :)

Yvonne (ysareader) | 79 comments I'll nominate Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green, David Levithan, which was on the NY times (children) bestseller list for a few weeks when it was released. I haven't read it but I like the fact it takes place in Chicago, it sounds a little different & I love musicals.

Blurb
Two superstar authors join forces on a collaborative novel of awesome proportions. One cold night, in a most unlikely corner of Chicago, two teens—both named Will Grayson—are about to cross paths. As their worlds collide and intertwine, the Will Graysons find their lives going in new and unexpected directions, building toward romantic turns-of-heart and the epic production of history’s most fabulous high school musical. Hilarious, poignant, and deeply insightful, John Green and David Levithan’s collaborative novel is brimming with a double helping of the heart and humor that have won both them legions of faithful fans.

Jason Bradley (slavetopassion) | 12 comments I nominate What They Always Tell Us by Martin Wilson.

Blog: gayya.org

James: Popular, smart, and athletic, James seems to have it all. But the only thing James really wants is his college acceptance letter, so he can get far away from Alabama after high school. He's tired of the same old parties; the tennis team; his so-called girlfriend, Alice; his ex, Clare - and especially his quiet younger brother, Alex. In a town where secrets are hard to keep, everyone knows what Alex did at the annual back-to-school party. The only question is why.

Alex: With his friends no longer talking to him and his brother constantly in motion, Alex is prepared to get through junior year on his own. And he would, if his ten-year-old neighbor, Henry, didn't keep showing up, looking for company. Even James seems intrigued by Henry, and by the strange cars that come and go from his house across the street. But what Alex cares most about is running, and when he's encouraged to try out for cross-country, he's surprised to find more than just a supportive teammate in his brother's friend Nathen.

Thoughtful and moving, What They Always Tell us is a powerful debut novel about the bond between two brothers - and the year that changes everything.

Available Formats: Hardcover, Paperback and ebook

Available at: Amazon, B&N, Google ebooks.

Robert | 9 comments I'll nominate Boyfriends with Girlfriends by Alex Sanchez.

Blog: http://www.alexsanchez.com

Blurb: While Sergio is attracted to both girls and guys, he’s only dated girls before. Lance has always known he’s gay, but he’s never had a serious boyfriend. When they meet, there’s an instant sizzle, and they know that they’ve got something special. But will it be enough to overcome their differences?

Allie has been into guys her whole life, and she’s been in a relationship with her boyfriend, Chip, for two years. But when she meets Kimiko, despite everything she thinks she knows about her own sexuality, she realizes she’s falling for her—hard. And Kimiko has been crushing on Allie since the moment they met, but it’s impossible for her to believe that a bombshell like Allie could be interested in her. Can they find their way together to a relationship?

Bookwatcher (bookwatcher) The Cat in the Cradle by Jay Bell

Blog: Between the Covers (My friend Alex. He did reviews for YA books :-) so can I mention his blog?)

Attention! FOR NOW IT's OUT OF THE MARKET
"You may have noticed that The Cat in the Cradle is no longer on sale at all the usual places. Don’t panic, because Kio and company are only going on vacation. The rights for this book recently reverted back from my publisher to me, and instead of just republishing it as is, I’ve decided to give it another rewrite"
So my nomination is if the book will be out in time for the July book of the month

Blurb:The Cat in the Cradle is Jay Bell's debut fantasy novel. The novel takes the reader on an exploration of the Five Lands and the different realms of the strange and fantastic Oligarchs. Each Oligarch possesses a different colored loka that enables them to wield a unique style of magic. Dylan, aided by his talking cat Kio, must prevent the lokas from falling into the hands of a power hungry killer before the Five Lands is brought to its knees. The print version of The Cat in the Cradle features 25 original illustrations, one for each chapter.

Format: Paperback, ebook, Kindle

Available from: we must wait and see :-)

The Cat in the Cradle by Jay Bell
