I'm so excited that Maria V. Snyder's new trilogy, The Glass Series, starts in Spring 2009 (in the US)! Storm Glass is due out in April and her first truly Young Adult novel, Inside Out sometime next year as well. If Mira Books stays on schedule, we'll also have Sea Glass due out in Fall 2009! I just can't stop exclaiming!!!

!!!

In answer to Karise's question, The Glass Series follows Opal Cowen (remember Tula's sister from Magic and Fire?). In Storm Glass, the Stormdance clan's magic spheres are being broken, their master glassmaker has passed away, and Opal is sent to help, since the spheres are a special glass and an important source of power for Sitia. You can read the first chapter at Maria's website, http://www.mariavsnyder.com - as for the sequel, no news yet! You can sign up for Maria's newsletter for more information, or just stay tuned here for News as I will be posting stuff as soon as I hear about it.

!*!*!*! Hey! !*!*!*!

So I've been trying to pull some strings to get MVS out to Los Angeles for a signing during the Storm Glass release next spring. And today, someone yanked back on their end! Yes!!!

What I would like to do is...

1) Start compiling a list of people who would be 100% interested in attending a Maria V. Snyder talk/signing/party in April 2009, in the Los Angeles area. If this means you, please email me and say so! I will not sell, share, or otherwise misuse your information--I will need your first and last name, Goodreads nickname if you use one, and your email address. If you know other people who would like to attend, please pass this info on to them and have them email me! The more, the merrier!

2) Start Los Angeles fans campaigning to get Mira (the publisher) to send Maria out here in April! So far they have not said yes. I think a little postcard nudge from us will win them over. Let me know in your email if you are interested in participating!

Let's do this thing!!!

Already thinking ahead for a Storm Glass launch party! Make some Criollo, butterfly's dust, "poisons" and of course coffee and you're all set for the next Sitia adventure.

message 10: by Jeanne (new)

Jeanne (jeannec) Wow! That's a lot of books coming out in '09! Can't wait.

message 14: by Meme (new)

Meme (mstylp) | 519 comments I think Opal will surprise us all and we will fall in love with her as much as we have Yelena, I'm just wondering who she'll be with through her struggles, will it be her family, Yelena, or someone we do not know?

message 15: by Liz (new)

Liz | 25 comments I like that Maria Snyder is doing a "spin-off" series because she has created such a fantastic world in the study books. It is great that we will get to see more of it.

message 16: by Ari (new)

Ari | 48 comments Just so people know there are actually two short stories in this universe. Power Study is about Ari and Janco and Assassin Study is about Valek. Assassin Study was originally a serial on eharlequin.com and Power Study was sent out one chapter at a time in the newsletters. Both can be found at http://www.mariavsnyder.com/shortstor...
Enjoy!!

message 17: by Liz (new)

Liz (jedimindreader) | 27 comments RE: Ashley. I think he will. You're right. Besides I have the faintest hope that maybe Yelena & Valek will show up just in the nick of time and save some people. lol *crossing fingers*

message 18: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 172 comments Is it 2009 yet? This is the only problem with following series that aren't completely released yet (or started) the waiting between books. Admittedly its not as bad as some book series, but it FEELS like its been so long because of push backs and delays.

Hey, at least she's not Dean Koontz or George R.R. Martin--I get accosted at least once a week by someone waiting for Frankenstein Book 3 or Dance with Dragons and they get really mad when you tell them they're not out yet!!! They've been waiting *years*.

I hear (this could change but for now this is true) that Storm Glass will be out in Spring and Sea Glass will be out in Fall 2009. So not *too* much waiting! Just a couple of months.

Yes, 2009, please get here soon!

message 20: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 172 comments Anytime I mention the pushback between Poison Study and Magic Study that I had to endure (or between Magic and Fire) my friend not too gentlely reminds me of her waiting for the new Robert Jordan 'Wheel of Time' book. Or another friend reminds me of how long we have to wait for translations of Japanese 'light' novels we have to endure.

Its just so much harder because Maria released nuggets of information and its like 'moooooore reading zombie needs moooooore'.

A (aarrghhh) | 481 comments Mod
Oh gosh I had to tell a woman yesterday that Robert Jordan passed away--she didn't know! And she was pining for the unfinished novel... I just hope his estate is on the ball and patches that puppy up--they've got fans drooling!

(Alethea's zombie groan: "Booooooooooooks!")

message 22: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 172 comments Reminds me of when Gene Roddenbury passed away--I vaguely remember my parents discussing how the fans were afraid for the future of the franchise and his other intellectual properties (Earth Final Conflict and later Andromeda of course). I feel so bad though when something is continued by other then the creator (Dune or Pern) and the obvious difference in style puts old fans off. I hope it doesn't happen to Robert Jordan's stuff.

(Lexie Zombie says 'Give me Boooooks or Give me death!')

message 23: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments I'm actually really interested to see what she does with the young adult novel. Sometimes I think they dumb down novels when going from adult to young adult, so I'm hoping she keeps up her same tempo. Do we have any more information about the YA novel she's releasing next year?

Tina, email me and we'll talk!!!

message 28: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 172 comments ;-; LA is much too far away for a jobless student like myself, not to mention I'll be planning my 25th birthday bash and that is gonna be rather costly (10 people at a hibachi? yeah. $350 minimum) and planning for Book Expo in May...

Can us East Coasters maybe plan some on our side of the states so the poor bumpkins like me don't go into debtor's prison for flying across the states to attend or would that interfere? Obviously not on the same day at the LA party, but I think we have more leeway since MVS lives on this side of the country...

message 29: by A (new)

A (aarrghhh) | 481 comments Mod
Lexie, it's a big job to set something like this up but some of us are crazy enough to try! If you're really interested, definitely email me!!!

message 30: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 172 comments I would dearly love to, but I'm not affiliated with any Bookstores or libraries, would that be a problem?

message 31: by Jeanne (new)

Jeanne (jeannec) So close, and yet so far. LA isn't that far from NorCal, so maybe if it was on a weekend, I could make a trip of it. That would be fun!! So... maybe?

message 32: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments I'm Chicago land area, so no go on LA for me. I'd love to have her out here though.

message 33: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 172 comments One of the few times I'm happy to live in the Philly/NYC area. MVS does signings in Lancaster and various other parts of PA that aren't a hassle for me to bribehitch a ride to.

message 34: by Meme (new)

Meme (mstylp) | 519 comments AWW that is just so not fair, I'm in NC I can't make it but I would love to be there.

message 35: by Ari (new)

Ari | 48 comments Kristen I'm in Chicago too! We have to figure out how to get her out here, that's all.

message 36: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 511 comments Yes we will!

message 37: by Raissa (new)

Raissa | 8 comments I'm in CT, so I can't make it to any. *Sob*

But I'm really interested to see what will happen in the next series. If it's anything like the study series. It'll be awesome. I'm just hoping that some of the characters from the study series, like Valek, Yelena, Valek, Ari, Valek, Janco, and of course Valek.

I have a question though. So the YA series is going to be different than the original? How different?

message 38: by A (new)

A (aarrghhh) | 481 comments Mod
Raissa, I think the covers are different, but the book is the same as far as we can tell. I think the books are due out in about 2 or 3 weeks so I guess we'll find out then!

message 39: by Thu (new)

Thu | 136 comments I hope Yelena and Valek will still be in the new series. I just love reading about their relationship.
