From the Interior: Poems 1995-2005 by Petr Borkovec, translated by Justin Quinn, is nice to read, the poems striking a balance between accessibility and personal reminiscences. Perhaps, the many references to nature--down-to-earth material to which most people can relate--keeps the reader on track. The translator is also to be applauded here. This rhetorical clarity, easy on the reader, does not mean that this poetry collection can be appreciated in just one reading. There is more than meets the eye; and, half of the book is written in Czech! Do yourself and the poems a favor by diligently browsing through them at least two or three times.
