Evee P.S this is kind of long. 1st 4 pages

Chapter One

I saw a kind of sadness they carried with them as if they
were repenting for something they had done.

My story begins when I was young. That was so very long ago, when I was that young and innocent. I knew nothing of what was happening in the world around me then. My parents were good at keeping secrets, even stuff that was happened before my very eyes. But they could not keep me from what was to happen. My parents were one of the few who knew magic, so in an act to protect me they taught me magic.
When I had my first taste of magic I loved it. My parents taught me little at first, only things that would help me against normal things like thievery. Then they saw what talent I had. So they advanced me fast and carefully. They didn't know the future so they didn't know how long we would be safe. In the kingdom where we lived life was short and dangerous. My parents took terrible risks. Helping people trying to escape the tyranny of the kingdom. I didn't think much of the strange things and people. I didn't noticed the slim bodies and ribs on everyone including me. I had no idea what close calls we had and the trouble we were calling even when I found out what had really happened when I turned eight. I never suspected anything. Our family was of and old long line a hunted and supposedly dead line. Every bit of notice we got could bring us closer to death. That's what eventually happened thats how I ended up here shivering in a dark cell wishing I was dead.

As I sit in the darkened cell miserable I remembered that day when I first
experienced magic, I was only three but I was full of questions of everything I saw. A man sat by some sticks surrounded by tall beautiful trees: my father was trying to make a fire. He had decided to take me with him on the hunt. I sat on a rock watching him hit the rocks together time after time. As he hit again and nothing happened he sighed. Then a humming bird flew by I watched it for a moment I heard him whisper something, a tiny flames sprang before my eyes. My eyes went wide “Papa how did you do that!?” he looked uncomfortable I spoke again “Can you teach me?” he frowned and said “Raven I think we should go back now.” puzzled I said “Why?” I open my eyes and stare at the gloomy walls of the cell. After that we had gotten home, he sent me to my room and had gone into another with my mother. They had decided to teach me.

There is a creak as the cell door opened. I felt my heart pound with anger, and fear at the same time. I hated this man “What do you want?” I felt sick as I looked at him. He was a trickster. “I'm giving you one last chance to live.” he said with a sneer.

I was in a grove in the middle of the forest, I felt like all the butterflies in the forest were in my stomach. Today my father had said he would teach me first. My father
smiled obviously aware of my nervousness. “We are going to start with levitation. Now before we start I need to tell you two things. One there is something you should know you can't use magic casually because magic is a very powerful force a force that can kill. It shouldn't be taken lightly knowing it.” I nodded solemnly my three year old face threatening to burst. “Two we need to get you calmed down. I want you to sit here and just blank out your mind for a while.” after five minutes I had calmed down a bit I heard him say “Now say iser with me say it again and again. Now focus on something... Close your eyes and see it in your minds eye. Now imagine it rising into the air, focus! Now say iser. Concentrate! Don't let anything distract you!” I imagined a blade of grass. I opened my eyes. Nothing. I tried again, still nothing. I tried so hard for so long finally I opened my eyes and said “I can't do it!” my father was smiling. The ground around me for about five feet was completely bare. My dad grinned “Well done” my father explained later that some people had tried for years to do magic and were unsuccessful. The fact that I could do it this young so well was amazing. I felt awkwardly proud.

As I came to I heard a man say “She fainted of exhaustion and hunger.” I heard another voice say “I don't care just tell me when she wakes up.” I made my breathing calm. I felt him pinch my nose he said “I know you're awake.” I opened my eyes and glared at him he said “You know my offer so have you finally come to your senses?”

“What makes you think my answer is any different?” I said .

Then he spoke calmly like he had said it a thousand times. “ Because if you don't your parents probably wont live very long.” My heart went cold. I knew he wouldn't even hesitate to do it. I hated him so much. “I'll give you some time to think it over.” he left and the door closed with a boom like it was taunting me telling me I was helpless now that it was closed.
I closed my eyes remembering my parents. It had been so long since I had even seen them. They had been rebels, only minor rebels, only doing quiet things here and there. Things that I had never noticed. I remembered now some things that if I had seen now I would have definitely known was an act of rebellion against the tyrant king that held the throne. I closed my eyes remembering when they had come to take my parents away. I was eight when it happened. That day had changed the course of my life forever. It started a few days before when my parents were tending to the field as usual. I was practicing my magic with my father. He was trying to break into my mind while I was trying to do the same on his. I was concentrating as hard as I could. My father stopped doing his work and concentrated too. I dug hard, I worked hard at it. I started to sweat. It seemed like we did it for hours. I was getting weaker and weaker, and the moment I thought I was going to fail I gave one last hard push. Suddenly the doors of my father's
mind opened. Surprised, I immediately withdrew, but a moment before I did a few images flashed before my eyes.
It was my father. He looked much much younger than he was now. He held a sword and was fighting a man. My father was drenched in sweat, like the other man. Suddenly my father lunged forward, and in one swift flick of his sword he disarmed the man and pointed the sword at his throat. The man started pleading. My father hesitated.

Evee Here's a little more.

He was uncertain. The man took advantage of this. I heard him cry out something; I could not quite hear it before my vision blurred and turned black.
As I came out of the vision, I wanted to ask my father what it meant. I opened my mouth to speak and saw the expression and my father's face and shut my mouth again. The expression disappeared in a moment, but I could still see it in my minds eye. He had clenched teeth, his face was white and his eyes reminded me of a wounded animal.
My father smiled weakly and said, “Good job, Raven.” during the next few days my parents talked alone in hushed voices when they thought I wasn't looking. When they saw me they went silent. Once I heard them in their room, whispering.
“Do you think he'll have felt that?”
“I don't know. We've been hiding so long that I have just run clean out of ideas. We can't leave with Raven, she'll never make it, and we can't stay, it's too much of a risk.” I put my ear to the crevice to hear better as their voices went down. I got a splinter
in my ear. I yelped and ran outside. I didn't look behind me and didn't come back till nightfall.
They never spoke about it after that. A week later I was outside playing on the hill by my home when I saw riders off in the distance. They were heading toward my home. I suddenly got scared. Was this anything to do with the strange way my parents were acting? I ran full speed to my house. My mother was going out the door when I reached it. She took one look at my puffed up scared little face and knew. Her voice shaking she still asked.
“Raven, what's the matter!?”
“I was out by the hill. There are some men riding right our way.” Our house was the last before endless forest.
My mother took me firmly by the shoulders her face pale white and said “Nicole, you must go and hide. Under no circumstances are you to leave your hiding spot unless I call you or someone finds you. If someone finds you then run as fast as you possibly can to the woods and hide there. If we aren't back by tomorrow then leave and head for Daray, and find a man called Druce. Tell him that Jem and Mcgrim need his assistance.” I was terrified. She only spoke to me by my real name when she was angry or scared. My mother was not easily scared at all. My father walked through the door, saw my mothers white face and said “It's happened?”
“Yes.”
My father spoke to me, “Nicole, take this; it is special to me and always gave me comfort. Keep it.” He handed me a gold ring with tiny crystals encrusted all around it. It hung on a thin silver chain. He dropped the ring into my hand, and before I could say anything he went outside with my mother.
I ran to my hiding spot, clutching the ring and the chain. My hiding spot was almost impossible to find. It was a crack in a wall that if you moved it ever so slightly you could fit a small child inside. The wall was empty there, as if it had been made for that purpose. I had lived here all my eight years and I had only found it a few years before. I pushed it, careful not to make a sound.
I had this deep nauseated feeling inside me. I felt like throwing up. I pushed the wall closed behind me. I put my head to the side of the wall that was to the outside. I listened. I heard something that made me really afraid: the sound of my parents hitching the horses and leaving. I heard them go past the house. They were heading for the woods. I heard the clomping of horses and clanking of bits. They stopped in front of my house. An oily voice said, “Check if anyone is in here.” Then I heard the sound of the front door crashing down. I heard them overturning the table, throwing the chairs outside, and breaking dishes everywhere, wrecking every inch of the house looking. Then they went outside and everything went quiet.
It seemed like hours. I wanted to get out of there and run but I remembered my mothers one specific command. Those words echoed in my mind. I felt as if I would burst from waiting so long. Soon I heard the familiar clank and clump of the horses returning. I stayed completely quiet, hoping that my parents were safe and that they weren't with the group of horsemen.
Something bothered me. When my mother told me to hide she had been shaking and she had taken sharp short breaths. What did my courageous brave mother have to fear? I felt an icy feeling as I heard the oily voice saying, “Check the house once more for more of them.” I was terrified that they would find me. I clutched my fathers ring close to my face. It gave me comfort. I felt like I had fallen down a dark deep black hole as I heard my mother's voice. She was saying, “There's no one in there.”
Then I heard that oily voice. “Now lets see whether that is really true.” he spoke a word “Heyheru.” Even inside I felt the air thicken and grow hot with sweat as the truth spell did it's work.
“Now that that is done we will get on to the fun part. Is there someone else in that house?”
I could feel my parents trying to resist. I was so terrified that it was hard to move. Then I realized that the magic had been trying to ensnare me in fear. I used my mind in to push it back with all my might. It left. My father, who was tired from his work finally
gave in. He whispered under his breath “Yes.”
I could hear the oily-voiced man laughing. The men started for the house to continue when my mother did something that I never ever understood how she did. “No.” she yelled triumphantly. Then silence, immense silence. At that moment I understood why my mother had said no. While she was trying to confuse our enemies she was also telling me to get out of there, fast. I crept out of my hiding spot as silently as a fawn sneaks away from a hunter. Then the magic came back loud and trying to overcome me. It felt like I was drowning in magic. Getting my strength back I used my mind to push it back hard. A moment after I heard the man with the oily voice say, “Get looking!” The other men who had hesitated before started into the house. My heart was beating overtime. Then I ran. I ran through the back door. I could hear the soldiers looking through our house. Then I was in the safety of the green forest trees.
I was out of view of my parents but I could still hear the peoples voices. I heard the soldiers tell the man with the oily voice that no one was in there. He screamed “You think you've won. I know someone else is here.” then he yelled, “Then I will find them myself!” and then he said “Mfinith.” I tried to get my mind ready for anything, but as soon as the magic found me it receded. I was puzzled, then I realized my mistake. A tracking spell. They were new, and only a few people knew them. The man laughed nastily. He strode toward the forest. Frightened I froze and I held my breath, more afraid
than I had been ever before. Then I realized I couldn't freeze I had to run.
I raced away into the forest, trying to get away before he caught me. I heard him running after me. He said, “Onfroi”
I heard and only had a few minutes to put up a protecting spell. I cried “Opratoctm” just a moment before the spell might have hit me. I cried
“Onfroi” but I missed, then I got an idea. I attacked his mind. He hadn't expected it but he was only barely able to stop it.
I fought to do it again when, at the same time as he was holding his mind, threw a freeze spell. He muttered “Onfroi.” I was not ready, and I was concentrating on getting in, so it hit me full. I was frozen and I could not fight. And I was exhausted. He smiled an odd smile and said, “Such a little thing with so much power.”

Evee Here's a little more if you want to read it.It goes to the end of the chapter.

P.S. It's supposed to be dark.

He stepped in front of me, and for the first time I actually saw him. I wished I could do something, I was so surprised. It was the man from the vision! He had silky brown hair he looked young and kind. I was not fooled. From what I had heard and the vision he was evil. He took my wrist and let the spell fade away. He held on to me tightly. He pushed me towards the house, where my parents were with a group of soldiers. He eyed my parents sneering and said “Who is this?”
My mother was white and had scared and wide eyes but she said “Please don't harm her. She has done no crime. And your fight is with us. Leave her alone.”
He smiled, leaned forward and said “I didn't ask if she has anything to do with this, I asked who is she?”
My mother just stood there for a moment and then said “She is a girl that we found from a passing family that had died of starvation.”
I felt weird. “Why did she lie? What would me being her daughter have to do with this? In fact what were these men doing here in the first place? How were my parents involved with this man? Who was the man? What was the thing they were talking about that involved them with him.” my head was filled with so many questions that it hurt. Suddenly I was jerked back to reality when the man said “ I do quite need an apprentice. She has incredible powers that will do perfectly” he smiled as if he had said a joke. My mothers face was white. I got so infuriated that I did something that I only could do now. I wanted to cause him pain.
He started yelling when I kicked him in the leg. I screamed
“Leave her alone!” and kicked him again. I felt as angry and fierce as I acted. He was so surprised when I did it again that he let go of me.
My mother screamed “Get out of here Nicole!” I ran as fast as I could. I used a spell that I knew to I tried to free my parents as I ran. As soon as my mind touched the chains that held my parents my head exploded with pain. I stumbled and almost fell as I ran. There was a spell on the chains. The spell was closing on me. I tried destroy it.
Using as normal voice as I could at this point I yelled
“” It let go when I started really pushing. I was free. But I couldn't do it I couldn't leave my parents. I couldn't. I stopped running. My mother suddenly realized what I was doing. She got all calm I saw her lips move, I listened. Trying to hear what she had said. Then it hit me full force. It felt like time had stopped. Everyone was frozen in midair. I couldn't move.
A voice in my head said “Nicole LEAVE. If you get captured there will be no hope for anyone. You are my last and only chance. You must promise me to run from Xenos. He is the man who found you. Your father and I have met him many times, we can take care of him. At times he might act kind and gentle but he really is very greedy and evil. You must get away as fast as you can. If you are poisoned by him no one will every be able to get away from his evil. Nicole you must go to the graveyard in Daray in there you will met the man Druce. He will help you and teach you more than we have until we return. Good-bye.” Suddenly the world surfaced.
I ran as fast as I could. I felt shameful for doing it but I had to. I heard the man with the slick voice, Xenos, yelling for someone to get after me. I sped up. Soon I heard them behind me. I used my skill to help me I whispered “Ehol” I heard someone fall into the hole I had created. More were catching up. Again I whispered a word that would help me“Poi” I heard a few people trip behind me. Then I ran full speed. Soon the
sound of them faded and gradually disappeared.
I ran for several hours stopping only in short rests. It was night. I felt scared. There had never been a night when I hadn't been with my parents. My sleep was fitful during the night. I barely got any sleep because my thoughts and because of the hard tree. The next morning I woke up the moment the sun had risen. I started walking. I walked for hours in no specific direction.
I felt exhausted from running from the hunters, I kept on looking back in the direction I supposed my house was I let some tears fall down my face. I was alone and there was no shame in that. This was all new to me and I was only eight, I couldn't take it. I fell down exhausted. I was asleep before I hit the ground, not caring who or what would find me while I slept.

Koori no hi i was wondering about punctuation too. and there are several places where you change tenses and shouldn't

Evee I know. I've been concentrating on the story and not the punctuation. Someone told me that I should finish the story before revising it and looking for punctuation problems.

Evee I'm going to be looking for that in my next revision, right now. First I'll try to look over the second chapter so I can post it.

message 16: by Evee (new)

Evee I heard the crackle of a camp fire. My brain felt muddled and then I remembered what had happened to me. I started crying, I wanted my mom, she would know what to do. There were too many questions unanswered and I had no idea what to do. I opened my eyes and immediately closed them. There, just yards away from me were Xenos and his men laughing and drinking, my parents were nowhere in sight. Now that I was fully awake I could hear all their gloating. I was disgusted. Slowly I fell back to asleep.
I pondered the events of the day as I lay there. My mother hadn't explained what I was supposed to do or what purpose I had, but I was sure that it had something to do with Xenos, the man that had taken them away. He had ruined my life and separated me from my parents. I wanted to attack those men just a few easy feet away but remembered three facts. One: I was a crazy eight year old girl whose powers weren't even close to those of Xenos. Two: my mother had told me to stay away from Xenos and she had made it clear that she expected me to put that first and foremost. And three: my mother told me to go to a city called Daray and meet a man “Druce” that would help us. The events of the day twisted around inside of me until I finally drifted off to sleep.

Abruptly I woke up. I was on a black horse. Someone was behind me guiding the horse. I was wearing a hood and it was raining hard. A few hours later we reached an inn and they set me aside in a room of my own. I could touch both walls by spreading my arms out, there was a small bed and a nightstand, beside it with a shabby closet on the side of the wall. A single candle was lit on the nightstand. I peeked out the door. There were no guards, cautiously I tried to sense any magic guards. I felt an enchantment there. Attentively I pushed against it, viciously the magic that had kept me from freeing my parents attacked me. I tried to use my own magic but as I reached for it, I felt a wall solid wall in my mind blocking me. Soon it swallowed me and I lost all consciousness.
I heard the now familiar clomp clomp of a horse and I felt dizzy as I opened my eyes. I was on a horse again.
The days drowned one into another until one day when we were riding near to the forest. I sat near the fire while the men went around getting everything ready for nightfall. I pressed my face up against my knees. I stared into the fire wondering what was happening to my parents when one of the men named Grim walked over to me and whispered into my ear, “Be awake at midnight,” and then he strode away.
I was wide awake at midnight. I had no idea what to expect. But other than being tied up and having no weapons to protect myself, I was fine.
It happened in a matter of seconds. The two guards leaned against trees looking thoroughly bored when suddenly one disappeared. I heard only a muffled yelp and then silence. The other guard ran. I heard another muffled yelp and he disappeared. Two men appeared in the guards places. They edged over to me. I recognized them. It was Grim and Oded.
As soon as they were within whispering distance, Grim sprinkled some sparkling powder on the ropes. They shriveled and disappeared. Then he said “Run into the forest fast as you can. Make sure you're not followed.” I stood up a little dazed.
“But why....”
He hushed me quickly and said “no time.”
I mouthed thank you and raced into the forest.

Evee Anyway this is the rest of the second chapter.

The next morning found me in a tree. As soon as I woke I set out farther into the forest. I had no idea how to tell whether someone was following me so I decided to stay in the forest for as long as I could. I walked on trying to find some sense of direction when I heard barks behind me. I started running. I heard shouts behind me. I was slowing. I was tired from walking already so I climbed a tree and hid in its topmost branches. The dogs ran to the tree and barked at it. The shouts were getting closer. I had an idea. It was going to be very dangerous: testing magic. Testing magic was when you tried to make a new and unknown spell. No one knew what could happen. I knew a spell to make scent stronger: “Sceng.” “O” was usually an opposite in a spell. I whispered “Osceng.” The dogs ran and disappeared. I smiled. I had tested magic and gotten away with it. Suddenly I was hit by a great force and I nearly fell out of the tree. So this was one of the symptoms. I remembered then that “Os” was also a blasting spell which explained why I had almost been pushed out of the tree. I guess I celebrated too early. Note to self: don't test magic in a tree.
I heard shouting and I saw two men and two women appeared. One man had dark black hair, he was average height and had hazel eyes. The other man had blond hair with light blue eyes. He was skinny and tall. One of the woman had red hair and had deep green eyes, like falling into a well. She was taller than the black haired man but shorter than the blond man. The other woman had brown hair with blue eyes. She was a little shorter than the black haired man. They stopped and the man with blond hair said
“Those dogs, one moment they're yapping like we've got a real catch and the next they're gone. No idea what's got into them.” he sighed and took a drink from his water bottle leaning against the tree I was hiding in.
The woman with brown hair said, “Maybe it was one of those magical creatures that live here. I heard that they can make their scent go were they are not.” Then she grinned.
The red haired lady shook her head and said, “The only thing that is hiding out here is troublemakers. They're probably having a blast scaring people. To think of it they could be here right now watching us.” She took out the bow that had been sticking out of her pack and looked over everything carefully. I sat perfectly still.
The blond boy said, “Watch it Freya, you're getting a little superstitious.” She glared at him and he grinned.
Then the black haired man said “Let's try to get a better view what's out here. Frill” He pointed at the the bland haired man and said “You climb the tree you're leaning on. Salina you climb that one and Freya you do the one over there.” Then the blond man started climbing my tree. I couldn't go down with out being seen and he would see me if I didn't go down. I was in trouble. I panicked and froze. He was half way up the trunk. I grabbed the branch of the next tree and with out thinking of the consequences jumped on it. I almost fell. I had barely got my balance when he reached the top.
I prayed that he wouldn't look in my direction, if he did he was sure to see me. I couldn't move to a better spot because it would shake the tree and he would be sure to look my way. He looked around and then he spotted me. When he saw me, he yelled and lost his balance. Whoosh. He fell out of the tree.
I heard a groan below me. I glanced down the rest of the people were starting to climb down. I climbed down, he was unconscious. I checked there was a bump on his head and he had a bruise on his arm. Not bad for falling out of a tree. I decided that right about now was a good time to leave. I ran into the forest. I heard someone shouting and then I heard someone going through the underbrush towards me. I saw a patch of black hair. I dashed away just in time to see the black haired man arrive where I had been standing a moment ago. I heard a grunt as I ran. I only saw the log long enough to trip over it. Then darkness.

Evee Well here's the next part.

When I woke up my face felt like it had been hit with a three pound flour bag. I was lying on a thin pallet. There was a blanket draped over me and a tent surrounded me. A yawn forced my mouth open. Then I heard voices outside, immediately I went from sleepy to wide awake. I lied back down and closed my eyes. Then two people came in. One said, “I wonder how a little girl like her could have survived in this place.”
Another voice said, “She looks like she has been here at least a day. I wonder why she was in here in the first place.”
“Well I wonder why the dogs didn't sniff her out. She looks only about eight or nine.”
“When is that girl going to wake up? She's been sleeping like a log for at least a day.”
“Well I cant blame her she looks like she's been through a lot,” the first voice sighed then they left.
I opened my eyes as soon as I was sure they were gone from the tent. I peeked out cautiously. No one was in sight.
“What's your name kid?” I jumped and turned around The black haired man sat at the back of the tent.
Watching him carefully I whispered, “Raven.”
He smiled, “My name is Meric” Then I heard footsteps and three others came in. Meric motioned to the blond haired man, then the brown and red haired women and said “This is Frill and these two are Salina and Freya."
“Well Raven, what were you doing in a dangerous forest like this?” asked the red haired woman, Freya. I said nothing. I wasn't sure. Were these Xenos's people?
Salina said “Raven where are you parents? It is dangerous out here. You should be with your parents.”
I finally spoke “I don't know.”
Meric spoke “How did you get here?”
“Walked of course.”
Salina smiled “Well I guess that'll do. Would you like to eat with us?”
I nodded gratefully as I finally noticed the impatient throb in my stomach. We went outside and Meric tried to light the fire. The wood was wet and the rocks were shaped wrong.
After a few minutes I spoke “Let me try.”
Meric sighed, “Might as well, it doesn't really look like we're going to have a fire tonight.”
I hit the rocks together while I whispered the word for fire.
“Refi.” It lit. When I looked up I saw Freya looking at me strangely. She had heard.
“Where did you learn that little trick?”
“From my parents.”
There was silence.

Evee Here's the rest of the chapter!

It had been three weeks since I had met Salina, Meric, Frill and Freya. I had grown really close to them. They were all very different but together they were a great team. Frill was funny and took every chance to make everyone laugh. Meric without doubt was in charge. He treated everyone as equals and was a silent warrior. Freya was a fighter through and through. Anyone daring to challenge her as a warrior because she was a woman soon regretted it. Salina was the kind quiet type and she was great at giving advice. I felt safe and comfortable when I was around these people.
I had found out that they had gone into the endless forest in an attempt to make a map at least at the border so less people got lost. But there was a risk to that. There were rumors of Wood wanderers. They were the only dangerous thing that lived in the forest. They were rumored to be part human and part something else. No one knew what they looked like. No one who had seen them . . . was ever seen again. Anyone who dared to live near the forest soon either left or disappeared. They complained about animals disappearing in the night and then weeks later finding the bones scattered across the front of their house and strange animals sounds during the night. The forest had always been a mystery to the people. Once, a long time ago there had been several expeditions to find what was on other side of the forest. Only one of them had ever returned. All the members of this party had gone mad, rattling on about Them, the wood wanderers. After that it was scarce that anyone went near the forest. “If it is so dangerous, why risk it? Coming here just to make a map?” I asked Meric one night when he had explained this to me.
“Because all these rumors could be coming out of nowhere and people disappear because they get lost. But on the other hand even if these creatures really existed there would be less chance you would run into these things if you knew where you were than if you were lost.” I had never learned about these rumors because I had been living away from any town all my life. I had to admit to myself some pretty weird stuff had happened while I had lived there.
It was then I realized how much I missed that dusty old shack. My life probably would never go back to normal. I let a tear slide down my face. I had stopped crying about it awhile ago. I had used all the tears that I had. “How did you first meet each other” I asked. I found out that Meric and Salina were brother and sister. They had decided back then to try to map the forest and then when they had been traveling towards the forest they had met Freya. When they had told her about their mission she had decided to come. Then, a few days before reaching the forest they had met Frill.
They had stopped at a village. He had been in an inn half drunk. Later Salina had found him being attacked. She had called for help and Meric and Freya came and helped fight off the gang. They had asked him why they were bothering him and he had said that he had made a comment about the leader. After that Frill said he owed them and had decided to come with them. He had stuck to them ever since.
I told them my story and what I needed to do. When I told him about how personal it had gotten between my parents and Xenos. Meric looked at me and frowned “Why in the world would they want your parents or you?”
“ I have no idea why they want my parents but the lord seems to want me for an apprentice in magic”
“Why did your parents teach you magic? How much did they teach you.”
“I don't know why they did. They knew a lot that they didn't tell me. They taught me a lot, rushing through everything trying to teach me as much as they could in as little time as possible. They taught me a lot. But I still have tons to learn.”
He was silent for a while and said “We'll take you there. We're not going to let you go there all by yourself and a break from mapping will help all of us.” I smiled, grateful. I had been worried about going there alone.
“Thank you.”

Evee Thanks I'm glad you like it! :) The next part.

P.S. I just realized the reason I didn't notice the confusing thing with the spells before was because when I wrote it it was italicized and when I brought it here the italicized words turned normal. Sorry :)

We had reached Daray. We stayed at the Showlan Inn. The next morning an hour after the sun had risen we started on our search. We started asking around. “Have you ever heard a of a man called Druce?” The people humphed and ignored us. We asked other people but they did the same. Finally we got a very raggedy man to tell us something by bribing him. He said “He's an old hermit that lives on the side of town near Spirits End graveyard.” he grinned and said “He's rumored to call up the ghosts themselves.” then he scampered off as quick as he could.
Meric yelled after him “but where is Spirits End?”
The man yelled over his shoulder “Spirits End is on the east side of town by the outside wall.” I watched as the sun went over the rise and disappeared leaving only little light to see by.
“It's too late to find this Druce. We'll try tomorrow.” Meric said. Then we headed back to the inn.
I felt sad. I didn't want to leave Meric, Freya, Frill, and Salina. I had become best friends with them.
“Why do I have to leave you?”
Freya spoke “Your parents told you to go to him and you need to listen to them Raven.”
Frill said “And If we don't like whoever that guy is you can come with us.” Meric just shook his head.

The memories swirled around inside of my head. I sat and stared at the sunrise through my barred window. It was so beautiful. How many more beautiful sunrises would I see? I had no idea.

The next day we had headed for the east side of town. I could remember seeing more and more dirt covering the buildings. The homes got dirtier and shabbier. The people had a hungry look in their eyes. I saw Freya fingering her bow. Meric scanned the road carefully. He groped his dagger silently. Frill for once was silent. Salina seemed not to notice the tense air but then I noticed that she touched something hidden deep inside her coat. I suspected another dagger. We went through the gate and walked along the wall. The tense air lightened slightly. Freya unstrung her bow and Frill started talking. I soon saw a glen of trees. Now I knew why it was called Spirits End. A row of tomb stones was lined up in the trees. They were so worn out that the inscriptions were impossible to read.
“OOOOAAAAHHH!!!” The sound came from everywhere. The horses started neighing and bucking from the sudden noise. Everyone drew their swords. Meric mouthed “stay here” and stalked off. The moans and howls continued. Then it abruptly stopped.
A voice said “LEAVE HERE BEFORE THE EVIL SPIRITS TAKE YOU!!!!!” suddenly there where flying shapes of ghosts everywhere. Freya lunged at one with her sword. There was a yell and everything stopped. Meric came out of the bushes and said
“He got away. He's headed for the big tree over there.” and he pointed at an enormous tree that towered over all the others. It was about a mile away. We
started running and soon we reached the tree. It was only a second before the man did. He disappeared into the tree. Frill was right behind him. He hit the tree with a crash.
Frill moaned. “How in the world did he do it?” he got up and walked over to the tree and ran right into the place where the man had been only a few minutes ago and crash! He ran into the tree again and fell back. “It's certainly solid.” he said as he rubbed his shoulder.
I glanced at the tree and said “I think I know how he did it. He might have used an unlock spell. The trunk's hollow.”
“Can you do it?” Meric said.
“I guess. It might take a while. There are many spells to do it. You have to know the right one.”
Then I whispered “OENU.” Nothing happened so I whispered again “TBREKPR.” again nothing happened. I sighed and the others sat down. An hour later I was still doing spells. I knew that I shouldn't be doing it because of the danger but I decided I would test spells.
Mel meant through and Teur meant be.
“MELTEUR.” then I turned see-through. I shrieked. Several minutes later I managed to turn myself back. It attracted a lot of attention. Then I remembered a spell my mother had taught me. My mother had told me it was a favorite of one of her friends and that he had created it. She said it NNTRMI. NNRT meant open. But it was usually went crazy opening everything from doors to old wounds. Even if it was specific. I had no idea what mi was. I had never heard it before. I couldn't think of anything else to try, so I did it.
“NNTRMI.” nothing changed. I frowned thinking hard. The others were packing up their stuff when I said
“Wait. the last one I did was a open spell. it could be open... but there could be a spell that puts invisibility on it.” I ran to the tree feeling it. When I got to the middle my hands went through the trunk and I grinned, stepped forward and disappeared.

Janeen-san (misswannareadalot) | 855 comments Great! But you need to use a little more discriptev words when writing about magic, and use PROPER puctunation; I can't stand it when people don't.

message 34: by Koori no hi (new)

Koori no hi she's right about the punctuation. i don't notice it unless i look for it, but if you want to get it published or anything then you are gonna have tons of trouble if u don't punctuate it correctly.

Evee
yeah that's one of the things I'm going to be going over once I'm finished with it. Right now I'm kind of stuck, but still I have some idea.

Anyways here's the next part.

When I opened my eyes after I stepped through all I could see was darkness all around me and then a light appeared and the man stepped forward.
He said “You've worked hard finding me. So it is only fair that I see what you want.” he finished as Frill stepped through. Meric stepped forward and said
“Is your name Druce?”
He eyed Meric quietly and said “Yes.”
Meric scanned him and said “Well Raven tell him.”
I stepped forward and said “I come with a message from Jem and Mcgrim. They need your assistance.”
He frowned and said “It's too late, they were taken to the never ending forest weeks ago. I tried to help, but I was too late.” he stared into the distance thinking.
He abruptly looked up and said “So you're her daughter. So far she hasn't left you that much in the dark, has she. You wouldn't be in here if she had.” he smiled and said motioning to Meric and the others “And who might you people be?”
Frill spoke up “I am Frill.”
“I am Meric.”
“I am Freya-.”
“-and I am Salina. We met Raven and helped her get here.”
“So Raven's her name.” he frowned. “Well since you have helped Raven get here I trust you have other things to do. Are you going or staying?”
Meric spoke up “We have nothing more to do so we have decided to stay with Raven for a little longer.” he eyed Druce daring him to say no.
Frill spoke up “This cant be your house. It's too musty and old beside for heavens sake it's inside of a tree. Who knows whats living in here.” Druce eyed him as if to say something then decided otherwise.
He said “Well now that you've spoken of it this isn't my house, but it's close by. Will you join me?” and then he stepped through the tree wall to the other side. Raven followed him then the others. When everyone else was gone Frill was in the tree looking around. Meric came back and said
“Frill hurry up!” and he ran and caught up with the others. They were out in the graveyard again. The tombstones looked creepier than ever. Druce walked right past them as if they weren't there. They followed him but at more of a distance from the tombstones. He walked to a small cottage. They stepped inside. There was a rocking chair and a table with six chairs. They sat at the table and Druce sat on the rocking chair.
He spoke “How long do you propose to stay?”
Freya said “At least a day. Until Raven is settled in.” Again Druce frowned. They talked more trying to find out about the man but they came out with a dead nothing. He looked mischievous, and had a little gleam in his eye.
When Meric asked what would happen to me he said “I will take care of her as if she were my own child.” At dinner when we sat down I reached for some food but then he slapped me across the wrist and said “Go wash your hands first. Do you want to get sick.” He gave me a reassuring smile. By the next day they were sure that he would take care of me well. Then it came time for them to leave. Druce didn't want to see any mushy good-byes so he waited in the house.
Freya walked up to her “Well kid all I have to say is farewell and see you.” she smiled and said “I've gotten fond of you so you better take care of yourself or you'll have me to answer to.”
Raven smiled and said “I'm going to miss you so. Good bye.” Freya smiled and then walked away.
Frill walked over “See you short stuff. ” he smiled and said “At the rate you're growing you'll be taller than me the next time I see you. I'll miss you. Good-bye.” I hugged him tightly, never wanting to let go. He slowly detached me from him smiled, a little gleam in his eye and walked away. Salina walked up to me
“Be careful Raven. Your special in some way. Be cautious. Follow what you think is right. You'll be alright.” I smiled and hugged her saying
“I don't want you to leave.” Salina smiled quietly and walked off with the others. As she left I wondered. Will I ever see them again? It looked like Meric wasn't going to say anything when at last he walked over to me.
He spoke “Raven you have to be careful. I think that a lot lies ahead of you. I'm going to miss you kid. I hope we cross paths again. Who knows it could be many years till we see you again. Take this, it is the first finished map of the edge of the Never Ending forest. Hope you'll never have to use it.” he pressed a scroll into my hand and walked away with out another word.
I whispered “Good-bye.” and I felt the tears running down my face, I had grown so close to my four guardians. I hugged the scroll Meric had given me and thought about what Meric had said. Will I ever see my parents again?
