At the bottom of select pages are the letters M.P. followed by a # (from the #1 on up). I didn't follow the significance. Can anyone help?

M.P. stands for Miss Pettigrew. The other bits are to do with the publishing I think - the way they put the book together. I've seen this in other books too.
