On August 18, 1920 the 19th amendment was signed, giving US women the right to vote. In addition, August 9th is National Women's Day in South Africa. Perhaps a women's theme?

Being a "leftie" I too would have to go for Left Hander's Day
I'd like to second the wind nomination because my town just survived two major wind storms in the last two weeks, and because then maybe we could nominate The Shadow of the Wind?

I second "Shadow of the Wind." But since August is usually so hot, I say go for a flaming hot theme, and recommend "When You Are Engulfed in Flames," by David Sedaris. VERY funny.
