The End of the Alphabet
a novel by CS Richardson
ASSIGNMENT FOR SEPTEMBER 26, 2008 pages 31 - 61

Remember to pick out one sentence, or paragraph from the week’s reading that you especially like.
Pay attention to that as you are reading.

What plan did Ambrose devise for his last 30 days?

What did the letters A and B stand for??

It’s OK sometimes just to admit that you don’t get it. I just don’t get most of pages 34 – 42. Fill me in if you can or want to.
What is that weird word at the bottom of page 45??

Pages 44, 45 & 46 go together. On 45 Zipper said: “That was then.” On 46 she said: “This is now.” What was she talking about?

What did the letter C stand for?

On page 47, Zipper was not happy. Why?
What whimsy did she have about re-arranging the alphabet?

The story goes back and forth between the present 30 days, and memories of their childhoods and careers.
On 48 – 50 Ambrose recalls meeting with the priest of a parish with dwindling attendance who wanted to hire Ambrose to devise an advertising campaign to “get their arses ba ck in the pews”.
What solution did Ambrose suggest?

Zipper had her own private thoughts about the letters of the alphabet. What were some of them?

Pages 53 – 55 both Zipper and Ambrose were in telephone communication with their employers.
What were the discussions they each had?
Zipper:

Ambrose:

What special talent did Ambrose claim as a child?

Give some examples.
