did anyone else go what?? I think I figured it out, but I had no idea the whole time and it wasn't quite spelled out in the end. But I suppose that's what these books are all about. Anyone else's take on it?

I saw it coming almost the whole time to be honest. There were a quite a few things that hinted at it during the story, like when he pulls her shirt tight against her in front of all his friends. When he comes in her room at night and she instantly tenses up. The DNA report that comes back and they say that it would make perfect sense if the DNA was from someone related to one of them. I've read a lot of Picoults books though, so I'm always on the look out for things like that, she almost always adds them in somewhere.
o your good, i did not see it coming, i reread the last paragraph about 10 times, in pure shock! xxx
It's definetely a shocking ending that's for sure. I think Salem Falls is one of my favorites of hers.
i agree, i cant say its my favorite as alot of her books are great. ^_^ its too hard to choose lol. |xxx
ahhhhh! you are smart! im so clueless and the signs when reading. next time im going to look out for them. xxx
If an author can keep a reader guessing right up until the end then that has to be a good thing. Having said that, the reader should not have to re-read to understand. Personally, I foresaw the end but not until close to the last chapter and, for me, the book was all the better for it. I tend to keep only a few books on my shelf long term (love to keep them all but space is limited!) and this is on my shelf to stay!
I must admit I knew there was something dodgy that was going to come out, but that ending did surprise me! A brilliant book, I am certainly becoming a firm fan of Jodi Picoult! :)
I was one of those who had to read it twice, just to be sure. I'd picked up on Jodi's hints throughout the book, but the final paragraph was just vague enough to make me think - hang on, does this mean what I think it means?Another brilliant book by Jodi, and up there as one of my favourites of hers.
I had an inkling of what was going on. It was when she came out in her revealing getup in front of his friends, and he reacted as though she wasn't his daughter, but more like a girlfriend he was proud of, that I knew what was happening. This is one of my favourites that I plan on keeping.
This has got to be on my top 3 Picoult books list, I just absolutely loved it! There have been books by Picoult where I was loving it all until the very end, where she just leaves you hanging.. I was expecting Salem Falls to be like that too but it turned out to be so perfect! And as for the re-reading the last pararaph, I did reread it. Probably a few times. But only because I was so shocked or excited or whatever. I usually reread the endings of any book that leaves me thinking about it for the next few days. LOVED IT AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE! I just love Jodi and all her works so much! :')
The first time I read it, I never saw it coming, I've just finished rereading it again (because it is one of my favorite books of all time) and kept note of the hints. It shocked me the first time, in that, "Oh! That's why ___ and ____ and ____. That's how it all fits!" way. I was so busy trying to figure out what would happen next with Jack what new evidence would come up to prove him one way or the other, that I didn't even noticed the most important evidence of all! :) such a great book!
At first, I was like What?, but after reading the comments and remembering all of the scenarios with her and her father, I realized how it all supported the last chapter. Would've preferred it not being the final chapter of the novel. Gave it a deserved 4 stars, but because I like extra-sappy-happy endings, it would have been nice to end with Addie and Jack moving on with their lives at one of their dream vacation spots. Otherwise, loved it. One of my favorite Picoult books.
I love Jodi Picoult and how she manages to layer her characters with so much complexity. Throughout the book, she hints at something happening between the Duncans. I will admit, when I finished "Salem Falls", this paragraph took me somewhat by surprise. When you look back, you think "Really, you didn't see this coming? Jodi was trying to tell you!". Since I read Jodi Picoult a lot I was able to somewhat pick this out, but she did a great job of nestling this little secret into the book without you thinking anything off was happening.
I disliked the book, like all of them... I learned of JP by the movies made from the books, liked "my sister's keeper" as a movie, but not as a book, because of the ending. I know how to find hints for the big twist and not to believe too much of what is shown. So, yes, I saw it coming. You knew Jack was not guilty and the girl was too troubled -who could have done it? Once you get the method, the books are all the same. I just wish I could write them and make money with... lol
Carrie wrote: "I was one of those who had to read it twice, just to be sure. I'd picked up on Jodi's hints throughout the book, but the final paragraph was just vague enough to make me think - hang on, does this ..."i agree with you .you know..i did pick up on the hints.and was like no no i must be undertanding it wrong...
but her fathers inability to let go.her and her fathers reactions to each other was all telling...
anyways the last para confirmed it for me...
i hated them both....amos esp....
did the abuse start when she was a child?
loved addie,jack,jordan,selena,roy,delilah,thomas though...
even meg ,charlie and chelsea by the end
