James Everington | 14 comments Hi all - I'm an author of from Nottingham. I mainly write quite dark short stories, although sometimes I write very dark short stories for a bit of variety.

Most of what I write is towards the weirder, more literary end of the horror genre; my first collection The Other Room has been out a few months and is getting some good reviews.

I blog and am generally annoying at: http://jameseverington.blogspot.com/

Oh, and I drink Guinness, if anyone's buying.

There's the link for anyone who hasn't looked at James' book yet.
Do have a look, it deserves the good reviews.

James, I'm really pleased you've joined us!

Shelagh (shelaghwatkins) | 82 comments Hi James,

Are you writing more stories for Kindle?

message 5: by James (new)

James Everington | 14 comments Hi Shelagh,

Yes, I'm working on a novella at the moment called 'The Shelter' - should be out on Kindle in next couple of months.

Shelagh (shelaghwatkins) | 82 comments That won't do at all! We need more information!

James Everington | 14 comments Hi - my new novella The Shelter is available now. I'd love to know what you think of it - after having spent the last few weeks editing, proof-reading, and formatting it I'm now in that slightly weird zone where I can't even imagine what it would be like for someone to read it for the first time... Here's the blurb anyway:

It’s a long, drowsy summer at the end of the 1980s, and Alan Dean and three of his friends cross the fields behind their village to look for a rumoured WW2 air raid shelter. Only half believing that it even exists beyond schoolboy gossip, the four boys nevertheless feel an odd tension and unease. And when they do find the shelter, and go down inside it, the strange and horrifying events that follow will test their adolescent friendships to breaking point, and affect the rest of their lives... A horror novella of 15.5k words, plus an author’s afterword.

cheers
James

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I've just bought The Shelter, James. Look forward to reading it. Dark and literary are words I love to see together!

James Everington | 14 comments Rumbled!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56524 comments Do I need to call anyone for you, dear? Ambulance?

Or just a nice cup of tea and an ice pack?

message 15: by James (new)

James Everington | 14 comments Just a medicinal whisky will be fine...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56524 comments You'll be fine, James. Just remember she's really a teacake.

message 17: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Hi James. Well, I really enjoyed the book, fast paced, believable, rather creepy and I liked the ending (Spoiler - everyone dies! Sorry, only joking!)

Ignore that lot - they think I eat authors for breakfast. Well, I would, but they stick in your teeth!

Nice work lad.

James Everington | 14 comments Thanks, errr, lass.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56524 comments Pmsl!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56524 comments I started The Shelter last night and it's been haunting me all day. I'm off to finish it now.

I love how you set a mood, James.

James Everington | 14 comments Hi everyone, long time.

If you've been kind enough to say complimentary things about my books so far, you might be interested in a new joint venture I'm involved with - Penny Dreadnought features stories by myself, Iain Rowan, Alan Ryker and Aaron Polson.

There are two issues currently available:

Introducing Penny Dreadnought, Insidious Indoctrination Engine of the Abominable Gentlemen

Penny Dreadnought: Descartes' Demon

The first contains a reprint of one of my stories from The Other Room; the second contains an all new story called Falling Over. The other authors are all top-notch writers too, and I'm flattered to be working with them...

James

James Everington | 14 comments "I found these stories horrifying, though they are not all strictly horror... I can’t promise these tales will scare you. But they sure as hell will disturb you. (Five stars out of five)"

Pleased as punch by this new review for Falling Over on Rabbit Hole Reviews.

James Everington | 14 comments Another new review for Falling Over from The Wanderer In Unknown Realms website:

"James Everington's world is a strange place indeed. On the surface he inhabits the same planet as the rest of us but his stories say otherwise.... reminiscent of Ligotti or Samuels, these are excellent additions to any Weird fiction library.

This is a fine collection of Weird fiction for those who love their horror well written, intelligent and liminal."

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56524 comments Give us an Amazon.uk link to it, James.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56524 comments Thanks James!

I do enjoy your writing.
