Tressa (moanalisa) We have a Let's Gripe and Pet Peeves thread that serve to keep us crabby a good deal of the time, how about some good news?

I had a great day today. We went to my MIL's and had a nice dinner with my MIL, SIL, her husband, and daughter. I made macaroni and cheese and stuffed eggplant. They grilled ribs and chicken and there were green beans, deviled eggs, sliced tomatoes from the garden, and coffee and key lime and apple pie for dessert.

Went antiquing with the MIL and SIL and the kids and men stayed at home. Woo hoo!

Came back and went down to the garden and picked a lot of tomatoes, green beans, bell peppers, and squash. My SIL who cans a lot gave me a jar of homemade ketchup, salsa, and squash.

A Pleasant Valley Sunday kinda day.

message 3: by Nora aka Diva (new)

Nora aka Diva (DuctTapeDiva) I got home this morning & found no itty bitty kitty suprises on the floor. Yay, the terror twins used the litter box on their own while I was at work!

message 4: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) Gator, I love eggplant but my husband doesn't, so I made it for the rest of his family. I don't think we have a gathering where someone doesn't make deviled eggs.

Nora, it's always a good day when there are no surprises on the floor.

message 6: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) For my dad's b'day today, I'm making roast (stuffed with cloves of garlic and covered in slices of Vidalia onion), field peas, mashed potatoes, sliced tomatoes, and a peanut butter and chocolate cake. It grossed me out to touch the roast, but I soldiered on.

message 7: by Scott (new)

Scott You can't go wrong with peanut butter and chocolate. You just can't.

Aloha | 4052 comments I balanced my bank account and had more money than I thought. I had double inputted some items in my Quicken. Yay!

message 9: by Tressa (last edited Jul 24, 2011 09:36AM) (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) It is hard to imagine that something could screw up a chocolate and peanut butter concoction. Here's hoping I don't. Here's the recipe:
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/peanut-b...

Aloha, I love when that happens. As good as sticking your hand into a pocket and finding a ten dollar bill.

message 10: by Scott (new)

Scott It's even better when it's your own pocket!

Thanks for the recipe!

message 11: by Aloha (last edited Jul 24, 2011 09:39AM) (new)

Aloha | 4052 comments No, it's even better when it's somebody else's pocket and they never found out.

message 12: by Scott (new)

Scott I guess it's a matter of perspective.

message 13: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 4052 comments That looks so good but Aloha Jr. is allergic to peanut and tree nuts. :o( Brownie alone is good enough, though.

message 14: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 2035 comments OK OK with all this delicious food, I think Tressa needs to make a recipe thread! That would be awesome! AND Scott is right, you can NEVER go wrong with Peanut Butter and Chocolate.....ever!

My good news is I am still walking. It hurts like hell, but I can be up and walk little bits at a time.

Rusty (rustyshackleford) | 134 comments I found a $20 bill in my wallet that I thought I lost a couple months back (I hardly ever put money in my wallet). Also, my daughter is almost completely potty-trained. Halle-frickin'-lujah.

Tressa you may already do this but it is a trick I learned from Justin Wilson. Before he put the garlic in the slit he would put a pinch or creole seasoning then put the garlic along with the bulb end of a green onion. Really puts a lot of flavor deep into the roast.

message 20: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) Happy early b'day, Gator! Bet you're glad you're not 66 like my dad, huh?

Michael, that sounds like a good tip. I used to watch Justin Wilson's cooking show back in the early 90s.

Every bit of my roast was eaten, and I haven't cooked a roast in decades since I don't eat them. They raved about everything, so it was a successful dinner.

I'm tired. Glad it's now quiet in the house and I'm able to lie down and rest. Starting tomorrow I have a 10-day stretch at work. I'm weary just thinking about that.

message 21: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) | 1479 comments 10 days! I hope you serious off time after that stint.

message 26: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) Michael, after I work a M-F and the weekend, I then work a M-W and am off the next four days. I mean, it's a long haul but it's worth it to get a four day weekend every month. We might go on a mini-vacation to the beach this time, so that's something to look forward to.

Did you ever notice that Justin Wilson always double dipped and would constantly pull out that snot rag he kept in his back pocket and wipe his nose? Barf!

Emeril is just annoying.

message 27: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) | 1479 comments Yes Yes Yes
Stopped Justin for those very reasons and the teaspoon of salt schtick in every episode.
Emeril is quite annoying. His original show prior to Emeril live was good because he wasn't doing all that irritating screaming and bamming. However in person he is a really nice guy.

message 28: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) I did like that Justin put mayonnaise in everything, lol.

Oh, that's right. Emeril lives in NO, doesn't he? Have never been to his restaurant. I guess once you have a signature you're expected to use it all the time. His audience used to get on my nerves. They'd sit there rapt to every word he said, like he was Jesus come back for a visit.

When I was in NO a few years ago, we stood in line forever to eat at Acme. It wasn't even that good a po' boy. I've always enjoyed eating at Mother's, though.

message 29: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) | 1479 comments The Acme has seriously gone down hill It is now strictly a tourist spot. If you want oysters go to Dragos great on the half shell and the charbroiled oysters are sublime. Sorry Tressa I forgot you are a Vegan. What did you eat at The Acme?

message 30: by Scott (new)

Scott What's Acme? Up here it's a supermarket.

message 31: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) | 1479 comments Down here it is a 100 year old oyster bar.

message 32: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) Michael, not a vegan, I do eat seafood and dairy. I got a shrimp po' boy (or however the heck it's spelled), and it was nothing special. Tasted like frozen shrimp was used! Not a fan of oysters.

We actually have a nice little cajun restaurant in B'ham called Crazy Cajuns. Best crawfish etouffe and seafood gumbo.

message 35: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 4052 comments Happy birthday in a few hours, Gator! Happy birthday to your dad, Tressa. 66? Man, your dad was a pup when he had you.

Tressa (moanalisa) Ah, I remember the days when you could spend some time with a kid and then turn them back in. Was always so nice when they were gone bye bye.

Yes, Aloha, my dad and mom were very young they had us.

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 2035 comments Aloha.....I fell and severely sprained/strained my ankle and foot. I was not able to walk for 2 weeks. I have been out of work for 2 weeks and I start back to work tomorrow.

Happy Birthday to Gatorman and Tressa's dad!

message 41: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 4052 comments What a bummer. I thought maybe it was some sexual acrobatics. I hope you heal quickly, Jennbunny.

Surprise! Aloha brought sex into it

message 46: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 4052 comments I'm surrounded by dirty minded PNR ladies. All they can talk about is sex all day long. Then I come here for a little killing to get away from it all.

message 47: by Tressa (new)

message 50: by Nicolas (new)

Nicolas (nicko1984) | 29 comments Waking up next to my girlfriend was by far my highest point. Played some video games and had lunch with my family, watched the final football (soccer to US readers of this post) match from the America Cup, took a nap, talked to my grandpa and read a good chunk from a book that was too predictable in the beginning but now it got more interesting (it's too good for a best seller).
