You all know what I mean. These are the books with so much hype, but you personally don't think they deserve it.

Sorry to the all the fans, but I just don't understand it:
Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate Torment (Fallen, #2) by Lauren Kate Passion (Fallen, #3) by Lauren Kate

In truth I only read the first, so they might've gotten better as the series progressed?

message 2: by Amanda (new)

Amanda I dont understand y everyone likes these books?:

13 Little Blue Envelopes (Little Blue Envelope, #1) by Maureen Johnson The Last Little Blue Envelope (Little Blue Envelope, #2) by Maureen Johnson

Incarceron (Incarceron, #1) by Catherine Fisher Sapphique (Incarceron, #2) by Catherine Fisher

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #2) by Rick Riordan The Titan's Curse (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #3 ) by Rick Riordan The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #4) by Rick Riordan The Last Olympian (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #5) by Rick Riordan

It's funny because I'm a huge fan of the books, and am going to be getting the most recent one from the library tonight, but I agree they are probably overrated. I really enjoy them, but they're not the best written or most plot heavy books ever. It's a lot like reading a romance novel, nice light reading!

Melinda, did you think Torment was better than Fallen? I think the idea was really interesting but it got cliched for me.

message 7: by Melinda (new)

Melinda (goferblitz) | 3 comments I did think Torment was better. It spent less time with romance and instead branched out with some new interesting characters. It got a little overwrought at the end, much like the first book, but it was better. I also think the plot flowed much better.

message 8: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (tx_mom_) | 1 comments i Like the fallen series. i have read all of them. My 10 yr is the one that loves percy jackson series.

message 9: by Brooke Smith (new)

Brooke Smith | 5 comments did anyone else find Passion confusing.....because I sure did and it took me forever to read it..had to keep putting it down and reading something else

Diamond (kindle lover) (quirkysecrets) | 6 comments Its not a series but All Sarah Dessen books

No way i'm reading hush, hush 2 at the moment and i'm loving it, finding it hard to put down.

message 12: by Aoife (new)

Aoife (luckylittlefirefly) | 4 comments I never liked Shiver, I only read the first one so I don't know what the rest of the series is like. The first was a total rip-off of Twilight!

message 13: by Izzy (new)

Izzy I didn't like Shiver much either, although the writing was beautiful - the story just didn't grab me. Hush, Hush was also difficult for me to get into. There are some very unique paranormal stories that I loved, but in general, most of the YA paranormal genre just doesn't appeal to me.

i totally agree. i read the first book and it was horrible. i didnt read the next ones

I always fall for the books with gorgeous covers, and Fallen is just one of those. Evermore and Halo rank up there for me to.

message 16: by Kim (last edited Dec 04, 2011 08:38AM) (new)

Kim I liked Fallen, however I have hard time reading a series like that until all the books are out. I personally feel like the House of Night series by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast are overrated. For me the story starts out strong, but than it seems to lose focus by adding a lot of outside drama.

HON does sometimes get a little overrated. I've tried to stop buying them because the story just gets SO drawn out. There is literally no end in sight. But, I'm too weak. I love Aphrodite and Stark.

Would anyone consider the Hush Hush series Overrated???

message 19: by Patti, The Reader (new)

Patti | 327 comments Mod
Yes. No hesitation.

Why?? I thought the first one wasn't that bad and did deserve some praise..

As for HON... I agree whole-heartedly!

message 21: by Luse (new)

Luse | 6 comments I only read the first book Fallen, and don't intend to read the rest however i enjoyed the light read.

message 22: by Megan (new)

Megan (megandurrence) | 10 comments Fallen is definitely overrated! I tried that one a long time ago and the entire book annoyed me. I was rooting for the bad guy to win by the end of it.

HoN was a good read at first, but quickly became an awful series. I agree that it's overrated as a whole.

message 23: by deedee (new)

deedee megadoodoo (deedeemegadoodoo) | 2 comments Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate Torment (Fallen, #2) by Lauren Kate Passion (Fallen, #3) by Lauren Kate Rapture (Fallen, #4) by Lauren Kate this series does not get better. Things get freaky and nonsensical.

Other series that I think are a bit exposed are
Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie Reached (Matched, #3) by Ally Condie

The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass The Elite (The Selection, #2) by Kiera Cass The One (The Selection, #3) by Kiera Cass

and Marked (House of Night, #1) by P.C. Cast Betrayed (House of Night, #2) by P.C. Cast Untamed (House of Night, #4) by P.C. Cast and so on. I read this series but after the 7th novel, the authors were really pushing it and I couldn't read through the main characters POV anymore as she messed around with uninteresting problems and the abundance of seemingly perfect guys.

message 24: by Adeline (new)

Adeline | 2 comments In my opinion Divergent is really overrated. It's a good book and all, but it gets too much hype, especially with the second and third books being what they are.

message 25: by Lucy (new)

Lucy (bonnyfan97) | 1 comments Twilight is definitely the most overrated book of all time! It's an entire series about the importance of having a boyfriend - how are girls not offended by that?!

message 26: by Galateia (new)

Galateia | 1 comments Personally, i think the most overrated book recently is TFIOS. It was a good book but i think it does not deserve to be considered such an awesome book. The plot was fine, for my just a typical love story with a twist in the end, Augustus' death. There's such a big crazyness about it but it is not as awesome, extraordinary or touching as i expected it to be...

message 27: by Mared (new)

Mared Owen (maredwyn) Yup, I thought Twilight was very, very overrated. I've only read Twilight and New Moon though, so I don't know if it gets any better? I really doubt it though!

I actually loved TFIOS but I know what you mean. A lot of people, especially now with the movie and everything, just say it's really amazing bc it's supposed to be amazing? And maybe they actually aren't that fussed about the book, personally. I've got a friend like that and it's just really annoying how she says she loves it so much, when at first, right after finishing trios, she claimed it was boring and didn't see the point?? Going off topic, but I think that's how series('s?) get overrated in the first place.

message 29: by Alice (last edited Jul 21, 2014 12:09PM) (new)

Alice (alicea2500) Twilight (Twilight, #1) by Stephenie Meyer New Moon (Twilight, #2) by Stephenie Meyer Eclipse (Twilight, #3) by Stephenie Meyer Breaking Dawn (Twilight, #4) by Stephenie Meyer
Yup. I'm reading the series for the first time, and though it's a good series so far (I'm reading Eclipse now) I do think it is a little over-rated. It gets so much undeserved hype! Now, don't get me wrong, once again, I'm liking the series, but I just don't think it's, "All that and a bag of cheetos" if you know what I mean.

message 30: by Kayt (new)

Kayt (kaytm) I personally can not stand the twilight series. Character development was non existent. No one really grew or changed in the series... unless you count.. well yeah.. But anyway, I felt like the moral of the story was "abusive boyfriends are good". When you lists out the characteristics of a abusive mate, and Edwards characteristics there are too many in common for me to feel good about it. Just my 2 cents worth though.

Does anyone else ever find yourself reading the rest of a series after the first book, just hoping it will get better?
