I've read the first five books and am in the middle of the sixth, The Bonehunters. I've also just started Night of Knives on a rec from another group. These two authors have collaborated from the start to build the Malazan world.
This series is one of the most original, complex ones that I've read in a long time. But it's not for the faint-hearted. There are a lof of battle scenes and fighting scenes that are very realistic and have caused me to cringe at the descriptions. Yet it absolutely shines in the characterizations. This has a huge cast of characters and I love all of them. (Some I love to hate.) Each book I've read so far has added to the depth and scope of the world. Absolutely amazing!

I recently finished the series. It's a big commitment but well worth it. I liked that it was complex- it was a nice challenge and it didn't even matter if I felt a bit lost on occassion as it was such an interesting read overall and the characters were amazing.
I'm glad to see you here Shannon. I hope the group picks up.
Malazan is definitely a huge time commitment. Looking at the massive books and then actually reading them takes me longer than I think it will. Since I've been reading this series, I feel like I haven't read as many books. The funny thing, though, is that I think I'm on track to read more books this year than I did last year.
