Why don't we have a Firefly topic? LOL. I know we have the fans. ;) Who was your favorite character? :D

I loved this show. I originally watched it when it was a new show on TV and then was upset when it was canceled because it was such a great show. I bought the DVDs of the 1st season and the movies. Both my daughters, my oldest daughter 10 years before my youngest daughter, watched them and try to get their friends to watch them. I heart they have Firefly conventions, I've been to a Star Trek one but I think it would be fun to go to a Firefly one if it were close by.
River because she was so mysterious. Then probably Jayne because he was so funny.I found the show a few years after it was canceled and was really upset I'd missed it when it was on.
It's wonderful. The characters and writing are spectacular.
I keep demanding a do over on the whole cancelling Firefly thing. It makes me sick to my stomach to even think about it because it is exactly the sort of sci fi which is my absolute favorite - merchants barely getting by out there on the rim. (See Merchanter's Luck and Balance of Trade)Fav character? I love Mal because of his snarky way with words (plus Nathan Fillion is super hot). But I also love Wash (funny) and Jayne (funny and sizzling hot) and Kaylee because she was just so sweet.
I discovered Firefly thanks to the reference in Castle. Don't blame me, I live in Belgium, and things reach us in unbalanced quickness and completeness.I watched one episode, and then hurried to get the DVDs of both the series and the movie.
I love, love, love Mal. And Jayne. Because of Vera, and the hat his mother made.
I'd love it if it came back, but I don't see it happening anymore.
The cast were all so unique and full of personality, weren't they? I liked Wash's humor, but sometimes Jayne was funny too. I liked the doctor because he was so logical and Kaylee was so nice, Mal's endearing humor, and Zoe was just a born leader. The shepherd was kind and gentle too. I was sort of most intrigued by Inara though, I must admit. That was the first time I'd seen a courtesan character on TV, and I think she's still the only such character I've seen. I was glad to see her get her role on V, and I want someone to cast her as a pixie somewhere. She has the face, LOL.
What I liked about the showing of a courtesan was that they made hers the only legitimate job. The rest were criminals. Usually it's the prostitute that's portrayed as having all sorts of bad traits, not being graceful, intelligent, and an upstanding citizen. That twist on the norm was really interesting and gave some excellent plot twists.
Jan, the first I heard about Firefly was when someone said one of my WIPs reminded her of the series. My first thought was "Oh no!" Had to run out and buy the DVDs because the show was already defunct by that time. Well it's really not very close to my story at all--at least plot-wise--but from the first scene where I saw a starship running wild horses, I was so majorly hooked! Now I'm a confirmed Browncoat and Firefly diehard. I love the frequent Firefly references in Castle, too. So fun! The Halloween scene is my fave, where Castle dresses as Capt. Mal and his daughter asks if he didn't wear that same costume five years before. Castle says, "Yeah, but I still like it." :)
That's my favorite reference as well. I also love how the engine part they needed in 'Out of Gas' lies on Castle's bookshelves.
I love the Firefly-Serenity-Castle connections too! Another favorite scene in Castle is where Rick snaps on a pair of blue latex gloves to examin evidence and just stares at them for a second. You can totally hear River Tam saying, "Two by two, hands of blue" in his head : )
LOL Love that Cathy.Jan said: "I also love how the engine part they needed in 'Out of Gas' lies on Castle's bookshelves."
OMG, I didn't see that! I'm definitely going to have to buy the Castle series on DVD just so I can see what I missed. Hmmm...wonder if there's a YouTube of all the references?
I do remember one scene where Castle's mom is going to vacation at an exclusive spa resort called Serenity. Castle gives her a blank look and she says, "What? You've never heard of Serenity?" Love it!
It looks like I really need watch castle if there are all these Firefly references. Oh why did FOX cancel!?! Since people are posting youtube videos I thought I would add one myself. Here is a new take on the firefly intro. its wicked funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuEfGb...
Also my favorite character would have to be Wash!!!
I just watched this entire series a few weeks ago. It was very, thoroughly, awesome. And, yes, of course, it must be said: its cancellation is a travesty.
I love how in The Big Bang Theory, when Sheldon is angry with Leonard, he invents the game traitors, and the owner of fox is part of the game, because they canceled Firefly.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB9iAu...
Even funnier, in a flashback episode, you can see how when Leonard moved in, Firefly was still running and they had reserved a special day for it.

And then of course it was awesome when Summer Glau was a guest actor as herself.
Fun topic! Love Firefly. One of my favorite shows of all time! I have to agree that the Firefly refrences on Castle are awesome. I jump up and down and do a happy dance everytime I see one. Did anyone catch the one where N. Fillion breaks into Chinese? Kate asks where he learned it?
My fav. characters are Jane and Capt. Mal. Love them both! Oh how I miss this show. Also for any of you that follow comic con Castle had a great panel and his daughter on the show (Molly Quinn) dressed up as Capt. Mal its fricken hysterical! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaB7sn...
