All, let’s welcome Emily! Emily knows Alisha, Julie, and moi from our youthful days at church. She lived in Hawaii for awhile (it's okay to be jealous) and I think now she’s in New York (right?). Emily, when you get a chance, do you want to give us the gist of your who you are?
Oh, and Emily, you’re picking the book for March! Get excited.

Emily- check out the rules Ashley set up for the book picking- hopefully it'll answer your questions. A translated work would be new to me, so I'd welcome it!
EMILY! What press? What press? What press? EXCITING!
And translations are totally fair game, in my humble opinion.

Emily, you and the others have connections one with another. I truly am the odd man out and have no connections until now with any of them or you. However, I'm putting that in the past as I get to know these ladies better with each passing idea and read.
The honest truth is that I had been looking for a book club online or in my local area, as the one I belong to locally through my church group wasn't/isn't challenging me as much as felt I could be. I'd been looking in Goodreads for a couple 2-3 months and other areas, and one day, in fact I think it turns out to be the day they all went online I happened onto Ashley's blog, and the rules about her website. I liked that, I liked her sense of fairness, her sense of humor, and said "That's the kind of group I could feel a part of, so I signed up." Haven't looked back. The good news is that we are not all puppets, we have our own brains and thoughts which I appreciate. I'm in the older set of folks here. The "gnats" as Cheryl calls us, but it fits. You got some great friends here, and I hope I'm worming my way into this mish mash group of very intelligent, bright and fun women.
Good luck with your own personal endeavors. Would think New York would be the cat's meow for you. Hey, if you look under "March" category, we have some bios we each did that tells a little about ourselves.

Yay Emily! I am so happy you are here! On a side note, I finally got up to Portland to use my Powell's gift card yesterday. I got Essays of EB White, The Namesake, American Wife, and Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned. Yes, I did honestly try to get Tim to pick out some stuff, I promise! :) So many thanks to you again!
Welcome, Emily! I'm a friend of Ashley's from Oxy, and I'm insanely jealous you're living in Brooklyn. I have some friends out there, and they make it sound like a bibliophile's paradise - hope you'll find it just as awesome as they have.

Ohhhh, I'm jealous! You get to work on actual literature! I work for AOTA Press, part of an association. Alas, most publishing in the DC area is GPO (ick) or association publishing. We do mostly textbooks for students and clinicians. Fortunately, we know how to be profitable, which is more than most associations can say. So, all in all, it's a good spot to be, if I can't be in New York. And I can't.
