Zach M (zachm) | 28 comments So, i was wondering; what kind of stories really grab your attention and don't let go. For me its the adventure type books. Books like Repeating History: The Eye of Ra or The Lightning Thief. Where the characters are on a quest or mission. But I do also enjoy a good supernatural/scifi fantasy also.

Byron (byft) Honestly this would be the hardest question to answer for me. It really depends on my mood, the writers ability and I'm sure a few other factors. But I guess I would have to say that Magic's Pawn, Magic's Promise & Magic's Price is the singular story that get's me.

Ez (ezrah-rah) Yeah, I would say that it's also mood dependent for me. I usually prefer for whatever I read to contain some type of romance, but, other than that, it really depends on my mood and the writing. :)

Lori (moderatrixlori) I like a lot of angst and stories where it takes a while for the main characters to come together. I want the issues they face to be real ones though and not just because they are being stubborn or because of a stupid misunderstanding. The only YA appropriate example I can think of right now is The Curtis Reincarnation which is one of my all time favorite books in any genre.

Anne Tenino (annetenino) I like some angst, definitely real emotions (glossing over stuff = sucky), but my favorite is a blend of humor and emotion. One of my favorite books of all time is Screwed Up Life of Charlie The Second. It's what I would call "mature" YA. It's screamingly funny, but very real.

I also like Brent Hartinger.

Brendan (BJ) (heresjohnny) | 382 comments Yes! I loved The Curtis Reincarnation! Funny yet at the same time showing emotional depth... :) I like the Highschool Jock or badboy/ Nerdy kids coming together and finding out they're not so different after all like Trust Me by Jeff Erno or Love is in the Title by R.J Scott:P

Recently, I haven't been able to keep with a book for more than a couple of chapters though and it's starting to grate on me... any suggestions for books that might keep my attention? :P

Taylor Donovan (taylorvdonovan) | 17 comments It depends on my mood, but for the most part I go for angst. Also, well written friends to lovers stories get me all the time.

I used to read primarily realistic fiction years ago, but when I realized that gay kids can also figure prominently in fantasy/historical/sci-fi/horror without sacrificing real-life issues (as the writer sees fit, depending on the book's plot, though purely escapist fun is also greatly appreciated), I switched over.

I'm not a big fan of romance though I still read it, and my main love right now is adventure, humor, and world-building. I want to take up books that sound off the beaten path for LGBT YA, which is why I've been scouring the 'net for books from small presses and self-published authors. They tend to be the more experimental writers I know.

Anne Tenino (annetenino) This isn't exactly what you're describing, Gussie, but you might check this out: The Girl For Me.
