Jim (jimmaclachlan) A lot of the stories we read here are old enough that I thought most were out of copyright. For instance, I thought all of Robert E. Howard's were, but they're not. Let governments get involved in anything & they can complicate anything beyond all sense.

Check out this article & list on Robert-E-Howard.org. It's interesting, if confusing.

Apparently it depends on when a story was published & some folks are sneaky about that. The article lists a case where a story was published in Sweden in a 'small' run - just 11 copies - but that is enough to set copyright for umpteen years. Weird, but true.

Steven | 5 comments The researcher was not aware that Health Knowledge assets and liabilities were bought by Myron Fass at that time (which included the editor, Doc Lowndess, as the magazines continues for a few more issues). Of course, who onws the rights after the they went under is a different question. It's hard for me to believe it took more than 5 minutes to find out that Ned Pines had owned Popular Library - up to the time he sold it (in 1961). Sold to Fawcett, which was acquired by CBS, who was sold it to Warners in 1982. existed as an imprint up to 1985. Sold to and now owned by Hachette
