I'm still planning to re-read this, but I've only been dabbling in Canlit these days; I've had a bunch of library holds come in all-at-once, and they're distracting me. What I remember from reading this the first time was that once I settled into this story, I couldn't break away, which wasn't always a comfortable feeling, but I was so impressed with the novel in the end.
I still haven't managed to go beyond the first 20 pp. I'm so behind in my Challenge! Not only that, but I don't see that I'm going to be able to continue on with it for a few weeks yet.
I did not enjoy reading this. It made me uncomfortable, I didn`t see the point of portraying this story. She was an unlikeable main character. That being said, I read it when I was 18. Might be time for a re-read.....if I can ever get on top of my to-read list.
I actually ended up liking it quite a bit. Lots of meat in the story. It dragged a bit at times though and ended kind of abruptly for me. Why did you find Hoda unlikeable (if you can remember)?

I was hoping to be done one of my other big books by now, but I'm still working on them. Despite that, I'm officially beginning this as my new poolside book. Anyone else reading this right now?
"Hoda is the earthiest, most captivating character ever to walk out of a Canadian novel." Sounds promising. Adele Wiseman
