Gretchen (gkonkler5) So I'm reading Cell and I'm loving it. decedent Stephen King IMO.

So I'm curious...

What are your top favorite Stephen King Books? (I mean we've all read at least one right?)

What Stephen King have you not liked?

If you haven't read Stephen king... why?

Mary | 236 comments I think I've only read two by Stephen King and those were years and years ago. I LOVED The Stand, and I liked Salem's Lot okay. I've just never felt drawn to his type of writing enough to read others by him.

Melki Grr! Made a special trip to the library last night to get "Cell". Not there, so I HAD to take about 6 other books instead.
"Green Mile" is on my list of favorites - of all books - not just Stephen King. Also liked "The Stand".
"Christine" would be my least favorite. Not a car fan.

Theresa I love "On Writing," and "The Stand" is one of my all-time favorite books, period.

I might have read one of his book many years ago, but I do like
On Writing. I told students about how many times King might revise a section of his book. Also, because it is sort of autobiographical, I can see where he got his ideas. He wrote a column for Entertainment Weekly, and I really enjoyed it. He has eclectic reading tastes.

Cell is worth reading. Not his best but just a fun and easy read. Good characters.

Totally agree about Green Mile one of my all time favorites!

Caroline (caro7) I've only read three Stephen Kings (my husband, on the other hand, is another story; he has read almost all of them), but I liked them all. These are the ones I read and recommend:

Hearts in Atlantis (movie is no good)
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
On Writing

On Writing is especially good. His advice is very good and helpful, and it's very interesting reading about him too; he has so much of his life story in the book. I am amazed by King. He is such a good writer and amazingly prolific. The next one of his I really want to read is Full Dark, No Stars. I have heard good things about this one. Cell also is on my list.

I enjoyed his EW columns.

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) I have read all SK's books and enjoyed them all, even have a few on audio too.

I love The Stand and The Dark Tower series which I waited over 20 years for him to finish.

Gretchen (gkonkler5) Maybe some day I'll have to give the Dark Tower series a try.

At least they are all out and you won't have to wait on suspenders like I was!

One of my husband's very favorite series of books is the Dark Tower series.

Sam (ecowitch) | 157 comments I've read only about a quarter of King's books and my fav to date has got to be...right stuck between The Shining and Misery. Both were among the first I read so hold that special place in my reading heart and memory.

I wasn't so keen on Gerald's Game as I felt no sympathy for Jessie so wasn't to concerned about what happened to her, which spoilt the suspense a little.

I really want to read The Stand and the Dark Tower series but really should make a bigger dent in my current TBR pile first...unless I follow Lynne's advice and get them anyway...uhmmmmm...

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) @ Sam You really need to read The Dark Tower series!
