Just a quick announcement:
We didn't say anything on what the 'prize' will be for the winner/s of ROAR. Of course, all participants are winners for having stretch their wings beyond their comfort zones.
It seems to be the norm that the 'prize' be related to the next game so... now, that we have some sort of rough draft of a game for 2012 (I know, how terribly organised!), those who place 1-3 by the end of ROAR will have a head start (slight advantages) for this next game.
Don't worry, in our next game, if Lady Luck is on your side, you can still win!! ;)

Amy was kind enough to ask me a question via msg as I, conveniently, forgot to place a reservation for Mid-month. Amy was asking if we could use author's name for the last task, 8.5 (eg. Lisa See, etc) and I've said 'yes'.
Another question on task 8.5 - can the word "hands" be used for touch, or am I taking the concept of variables too far?
When choosing winners, are you going strictly by points even if all tasks weren't completed by at least one book?
I used the thesaurus on word and come up with the following tenative list of words that might work...I was able to find a book for each scent, so farSee – look, observe,
Feel – touch; stroke, handle, caress
Hear – listen; sound
Smell – aroma, sense; scent; odor
Taste – savor; flavor; try; sample; eat; test
the country list posted doesn't seem to be working for me - I keep getting the webpage cannot be found msg...does this one work ok as an alternative?

Yes to Amy (#5), Susan (#9) & Lahni (#10)... this task is a very flexible one ;)
Dee - I can't open your link! lol- the list I had got 257 countries, I'm hoping yours have the same number? Otherwise, I can always cut & paste the countries list and msg them to you?

Lahni, I was going strictly by points.
But... I may be looking at different categories for which I have things in store - to be disclosed at a later stage ;)

Please be kind in November and December for those of us that are trying to read all the books for each task x 5 and can't physically read 20 books in a month. ;)
Ha ha ha, Lahni, don't worry. I have realised that it might be a close call for the December challenges, most especially, noting the holiday season and all.
Dee - I can't open your link! lol- the list I had got 257 countries, I'm hoping yours have the same number? Othe..."link worked for me at home...weird - no worries, i got my countries picked out - i actually needed several of this for my around the world challenge - I got urugary; uganda; uzbekistan; vatican city all lined up... ;)
Sorry, I am on the mend (got a cold!). It hasn't been a very good year for me, is it? Especially not the last few months!? It's a combination of being a cold winter & commuting on train for work :p
Plus I was stressed out at work yesterday so I'm really sorry... and I'm making it so very easy this mid-month to make it up :)

ohhh me likely the mid-point and one of my groups has a birthday tracker and authors part of the group are included - made it easy for me to find someone with a book on my shelf
Dee- I'm jealous! I was just going to ask if anyone has a slick way of finding the author's birth month. I notice many don't list it on their author profiles. And I'm really hoping to avoid google searching all of them.
i would offer you this list, but they are lgbt romances and some are rather explicit - but if you want let me know
Thanks, Dee, but I'll pass. They wouldn't do me any good since I'm sure none of the books are on my TBR list.
probably not ;)this link might help: http://www.librarything.com/topic/121282 - it seems to be a topic about authors birthdays in august
So for 8.5 I have chosen books with these words: hand (touch), eyes (sight), sweetness (taste) and scent (smell). Those words clearly relate to the sense, but can I use the word voice for hearing? The actual book is The Voice of the Night, which conjures up a spoken sound. That picture leads me to hearing which is necessary to know that the sound is a voice. So will it work?

Yes - this task is a very flexible one ;)

for the country in the ROAR...what if it originally was a letter in the month - Z, but now isnt? I just finished up The Ponds of Kalambayi which was set in Zaire when it was written, but Zaire is now the Democratic Republic of the congo

Sorry, Dee, I'm afraid I'll have to say no. You can claim it for C but not for Z as Christina said it'll have to be on the list of countries - did you say before that you couldn't open this list? Was that you?
If they changed their name this year, I would have accepted it but they didn't so... no ;p
