Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments Notice any interesting or unusual or humorous book shelf names?

I saw a few yesterday but one stood out and I had mixed feelings about it. It was kind of funny but sad that they felt that way.

embarassing romance books

I got a beam me up scottie bookshelf for my sci fi/ futuristic books

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 146 comments I've seen some really nifty shelf names. Shawna has a lot of great shelves, in particular.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments I mostly steal other people's bookshelf names. I think I stole "I-am-a-bookcover-ho" from Shawna. Lady D is right, they are pretty funny. One of the few I came up on my own was for older woman/younger man named "mrs-robinson". I've thought of adding some of willaful's. I can't remember who has the "head-banger", but I may have to add that too. Oh, it was her - entitled "fabulous-wall-banger". But wait, maybe she means something else, LOL!

Nisha (parakisu) | 7 comments I love bookshelf names, but I'm always afraid to get too creative with them. What if I forget what they stand for?

I'm not sure who I pulled it from, but I really like 'Tupping a duke'. And I think 'hot hero award' was borrowed from someone else's bookshelf.

message 5: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments "tupping-a-duke" - I like it, LOL! I may have to change the name of mine.

message 6: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments lol love the tupping a duke! Love all of them. I may have to rename a few of mine to be more creative. I like my habanero shelf for my hot stuff.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 146 comments I saw your Mrs Robinson shelf, Lisa. I like it a lot. You both have some good shelves, Lisa and Nisha.

message 8: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments I like Pamela's "desert-island-keeper" - that one is pretty self-explanatory.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 146 comments Gotta have a desert island keeper shelf!

message 10: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments I think I might steal ur Mrs Robinson shelf. lol

message 11: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Steal away - just expect me to do the same, LOL!

message 12: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments lol feel free.

message 13: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments Hey just discovered something. If you go into explore and then hit genres on the right hand side and type in shelf name. Then you can add a description of what that shelf is. Cool, eh?

message 14: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Pretty cool!

message 15: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Neat, Pamela. I just added one for "one-foot-on-the-floor". (An old movie term.)

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Lisa what does "one foot on the floor mean? I am old and never heard of it ... I think.

message 17: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments "One-foot-on-the-floor" comes from an old movie term. Back when the censors insisted that married couples had to have separate beds, during a love scene (for any couple, married or not) one person had to keep one foot on the floor at all times. Hollywood got quite inventive on the choreography for that, LOL! Some of Cary Grant’s movies are the funniest as he would flip and turn around and still maintain one foot on the floor.

In most cases it means no explicit sexual scenes, or even none.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL ..... Oh I see.... I remember the separate beds, I didn't know the name for it. Well we certainly have come a long way...... I miss the old days even with the separate beds..... I could always use my imagination ....... lol

message 19: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments I think there have been several people who have tried to see if "it" can still be done when one partner has one foot on the floor, LOL!

message 20: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments lol. I've heard the term but its only been within the last few years when I heard it. I love Cary Grant movies!

I'll have to check out ur shelf and see if there is anything my mom might like. She reads mostly christian romance but also ventures out occasionally if its clean.

That would be me, I'd be so clever I wouldn't be able to figure it out later.

message 22: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments Hmmm, I may do a tupping the ton so I can include more than just the dukes...lol

message 23: by Nisha (new)

Nisha (parakisu) | 7 comments well, the dukes are a special case. There are so many of them that I think they deserve their own shelf.

message 24: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments Yes, Nisha, they are. lol

message 25: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments saw 2 bookshelves today that brought a smile to my face. And since I'm in a grumpy mood that's doing good... lol

brain candy
sexual chocolate

I am laughing my head off!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is that Eddy Murphy's line?

message 27: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments I just looked it up and it says it was a band on Eddie Murphy's movie Coming To America.

message 28: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments LOL! Good. I needed a chuckle. :)

message 29: by Nisha (new)

Nisha (parakisu) | 7 comments I like those. Now how do I incorporate them into my shelves...

message 30: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments I just made me a shelf called file 13

I don't have any books on it yet, though. For those who aren't familiar with military jargon, file 13 refers to the trash can. So it will be a shelf for books I did not finish.

message 31: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments LOL! Love it!

message 32: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Alldredge (cheryl_alldredge) | 12 comments Love the file 13 - great way to be discreet. ;)Shelf names aren't something I'd given much thought to, but now I'm inspired to go get creative.

message 33: by Nisha (new)

Nisha (parakisu) | 7 comments I love that idea, Pamela. 'file 13' is perfect.

message 34: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments Thanks. File 13 or deep 6 would work. Both mean about the same.

message 35: by Josh (new)

Josh (jayephgee) Does anyone know of any clever new bookshelf names?? I have a list for my phone, so I don't have to log into my profile here - LOL - and I'm trying to find/figure out some clever names for my various shelves. Like, you know instead of Reading Now, Want to Read, Read... want some cooler ones (and still know what that shelf name means, lol) Any help would be very much appreciated! :)

message 36: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments hmmm, sounds like fun.

How 'bout movie theme - Now Playing, Coming Soon...?

message 37: by McGee Magoo (new)

McGee Magoo I had a shelf called "covers that embarrass me". But i deleted it the other day because i had fallen behind and felt like there was just too many, lol.

message 38: by Josh (new)

Josh (jayephgee) Hmmm.... Now Playing I could use in place of Reading Now, I guess.! :) But what about Coming Soon?? Idk what that would signify as, as far as a bookshelf. Lol

Good idea for Now Playing, tho! Thank you! :D

message 39: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments Coming soon would be those to be read books.

Yeah, I'd have a ton of books on that shelf!

Josh (jayephgee) Pamela(AllHoney) wrote: "Coming soon would be those to be read books."
I also had created shelves named Own and Read, Own but not Read, and Read but don't Own.... got any other cool names for these shelves, too Pamela? :) lol

message 42: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments I have a keeper shelf for books I own and read. I also put in my notes if I borrowed from the library. So maybe a library shelf? That's about it on those.

I wanna find a simple library bookshelf app where I can store all my books and categorize them how I want them to be. Do you have any ideas?

message 44: by Josh (new)

Josh (jayephgee) I just installed a ton of book catalog/list apps on my phone! Wish me luck I find the best one to do what I wanna do.! :)

I found a really good app for my phone! The only downfall is it doesn't let you search by book title, only by barcode or create a book, which I don't like cuz then you won't get the book's front cover.
