Just bought the hardcover of S. Kenyon's "Retribution", going to two different stores to look at them before finally buying one. The pages were all jagged tears on the edge rather than smooth cut. Anyone else out there run into the same problem? Haven't begun to read it yet.

Yes. I thought it was just a rough batch of copies at the Boreders but with the Barnes and Nobels and Books-a-million also havin the rough copies but I think its the stanard

Yea I bought it at my local kroger's and the edges were that way. But I don't think this is specific to SK's books as I noticed other hard backs with the same rough edges. Not sure what is going on with the publishing places to not have them smooth any more. But I have definitedly noticed the change for sure.

They are the same way on the Archeron book. I thought there was something wrong with it but evidently the publisher likes doing that maybe? idk.

It seems to be called a "deckle edge," and is meant to look like old books that have hand-cut pages. Seems to be the "it" thing these days. Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Powers series also has these edges, as do a number of new books out there.

I wondered about that. I do not think it looks very professional @ all.

The look of the pages did not bother me as much as the content of this book. Is there a time when authors should say, "Hmm, I need to end this series and give the readers, (loyal readers) some closure instead of leading them to nothingness." I'm just asking because after this I am thinking library read or wait until paperback.

Anita I feel as if the author has abandoned this series. She was on such a roll, too, but veered off with writing stories of lesser characters. I haven't bo ...more

I'll just buy it on my Nook. Then I don't have to worry about that!

I splurge on HC for my favorite authors, but I agree looking at my vast library the quality went down and each year it seems it gets worse. I know that you can contact the publishing house and request a new copy and they will gladly replace it and listen to your comments, I purchased HC before and I am a careful reader, but pages just fell out and I mean fell out. One of the major publishers replaced it for me for free and even had the author autograph that copy as a thank you.
