When asked for a list of my favorite authors in the horror/thriller genre, Peter Straub is always at the top of my list, right under Stephen King. He has co-written 2 books with King and there are plans for a third; all in The Talisman series which are a mixture of fantasy, adventure, and horror. The 2 books are The Talisman and Black House, both 5-star books IMHO. I hope they continue the series with the third planned book.

I was first exposed to Peter Straub when I read his amazing horror novel Ghost Story. It was made into a pretty good movie, too, starring Fred Astaire. The very creepy, senuous ghost was played by the actress Alice Krige.

King has mentioned several of Peter Straub novels as significant to the horror genre.

Yep, I can't wait to read it!

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) Me either! It's one that I drool thinking about... Aside from Talisman and Black House though, I've never read any Straub. I own two books by him, Ghost Story Ghost Story by Peter Straub and Lost Boy, Lost Girl Lost Boy, Lost Girl by Peter Straub but have not ever gotten round to reading them. I started to read Ghost Story once, got a few pages in, but it wasn't the right time to read it, and I was called more strongly to another book at the time, so I put it aside.

I hope you get to Ghost Story, someday Kit. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Ann (annrumsey) | 466 comments I think I had heard that the only thing preventing a third book collaboration was for Straub and King to find the time; I wish they would!

Yep, that's what I heard, too, Ann! They certainly are both busy men and in high demand.

Ghost Story is a great book for a Peter Straub introduction. It is one of my favorites.

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 598 comments I don't think I have read Ghost Story, but have read many other Peter Straub books, I will need to pick that one up.

Christina Lott | 1 comments I've read Ghost Story, Floating Dragon, Koko, The Hellfire Club, Mystery, and Mr. X, as well as the two collaboration novels with SK. I've been a Stephen King fan since I was 8 years old, but (dare I say it) I think I love Straub just as much as King.

Straub is one of my favorites, too. Ghost Story is exceptional!

Robert Kratky (bolorkay) | 4 comments It's "funny". I've had a very limited hit and miss relationship with Mr. Straub's work.

"Ghost Story" is one of my favorite books of all time ..... such wonderful style. But "Floating Dragon", after three false starts I had to leave un-finished!
Would anyone have any suggestions as to where I should turn to get my interest level sparked again with Mr. Straub?

The Talisman and the sequel Black House were coauthored by Straub and King. Excellent!

message 15: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I didn't like Black House as much as The Talisman, but I would still be thrilled if they wrote another.

Like Bob, I feel Straub is more hit and miss that surefire like King, but still, I'd love to see another collaboration. They compliment each other so well.
