Mara | 17 comments Found this old old article (last year)from New York Times just today...Anyone know if this is really true?

Ms. Heigl spent the summer in Pittsburgh, producing and acting in “One for the Money,” an adaptation of the popular Janet Evanovich novel. She portrays Stephanie Plum, an unemployed lingerie buyer from New Jersey who becomes a bounty hunter. If all goes well, Ms. Heigl will then turn toward sharply dramatic work, starring as a Scottish heroine in an adaptation of “Outlander,” the novel by Diana Gabaldon. “Scotland? 2012? What do you think?” she said.

Carolyn F. No frickin way! She is so not Claire!!!!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments THe interview is true, and I do believe that she was interested in the role but that nothing was ever finalized. There hasn't been an update or rumor since.

I certainly hope that it's not true!

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments oh god no!!! besides the fact she can't act her way out of a paperbag...she is nothing what claire is supposed to look like

Wicked ♥ (Wickedly Bookish Reviews) aka Bat-Jess | 11 comments I seriously hope this isn't true. She is not right for the role. And her as Stephanie Plum? I don't know if you ladies have read that sereis, but she doesn't fit the role at all. :-( Hollywood ruins a perfectly good series again.

message 6: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments She is not at all who I thought of for Stephanie Plum (I think Anne Hathaway would have been good, since Bullock isn't the right age anymore), but at least she's got experience playing the bumbling clumsy rolls.

There is no way she could be graceful, serious, pragmatic Claire.

Wicked ♥ (Wickedly Bookish Reviews) aka Bat-Jess | 11 comments I'd never thought of Anne Hathaway for Stephanie, but now that you mention it, that would have been a pretty good fit.

message 8: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I think she has the right coloring and look, plus I think she'll be able to play off the misshaps with sheepishness and cynicism really really well. I think she's make it feel more believable. Heigl is going to make Stephanie even more of a basket case. It'll feel fake and overdone.

message 9: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments Wendy-- Since Heigl is ALREADY fake and overdone, it won't be much of a stretch for her. Am I the only one that feels this way?

message 10: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments No, I feel that way. There have been movies that I've liked her in. 27 Dresses is one of my favorites. BUT I also feel like she's too commercial and she acts the same way in everything I've ever seen her in. I feel like it's cheap to throw her in as the main character, and unfortunately it makes me think that the movies going to suck.

message 11: by MissSusie (new)

MissSusie | 146 comments No No NO Its bad enough she's going to be Stephanie another part she isn't right for!

message 12: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Wendy F wrote: "No, I feel that way. There have been movies that I've liked her in. 27 Dresses is one of my favorites. BUT I also feel like she's too commercial and she acts the same way in everything I've ever..."

You're right about her acting the same way in every movie, my daughter loves her and I find it so hard to sit through one of her movies. I liked her for about 10 minutes on Grey's Anatomy and then she went all diva, overblown. She would absolutely not work as Claire. I think Kate Beckinsale would be a good Claire.

message 13: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments My favorite Claire is Rachel Weisz, but she's rapidly moving past the age range for the role.

I mean, it's all perfect. The curves, the eyes, curl her hair a bit more and she's exactly like what i picture.

message 14: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Her skin's not pale enough. But everything else is good.

She is my first choice too.

I love her for Claire, but she's still a bit too olive complexioned for my taste.

message 17: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments She's not as pale as she could be, but nobody is going to be exact. She's the closest I've ever seen.

message 18: by Leea, Escape Artist (last edited Aug 08, 2011 01:21PM) (new)

Leea | 1239 comments I still love Emily Blunt for Claire...

If you have not seen her in the Young Victoria, it's a wonderful movie. Even my husband love it :)

Wicked ♥ (Wickedly Bookish Reviews) aka Bat-Jess | 11 comments Loved Young Victoria! I think Emily would make a beautiful Claire

message 20: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I actually would be happy with Emily Blunt too. I don't think her face is exact, but she's got the persona.

message 21: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Aug 08, 2011 02:11PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments You know, Emily Blunt would definitely have the spunk! Plus, she can pull off period clothing! I like that idea!!! :)

message 22: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. She could wear contacts and that would take care of the eyes.

message 23: by Cristina (new)

Cristina (cristina_) | 38 comments I don't think Ms Blunt has the curves. I'm all for Ms Weitz and I think it should be a two movie deal (like the last Harry Potter). The first movie starts with DIA, flashes back to Outlander, and ends with Claire disappearing through the stones th go back to Jamie. The second movie would pretty much be Voyager and DOA. The main story arc for the first movie would be on the " search" for historical Jamie with the second movie a straight adventure. This way then Ms Weitz would be perfect. With all the technology out there, there shouldn't be a problem showing her as a 28 year old. (Did anyone see Benjamin Button with Bradd Pitt aging backwards?)

Teresita A | 531 comments Wendy F wrote: "My favorite Claire is Rachel Weisz, but she's rapidly moving past the age range for the role. Hi Wendy, I agree with you there. Rachel Weisz would be my first choice too to play Claire if only she were younger.

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) | 169 comments Nooo to Heigl. She is okay but not for Claire. That is going to be a very hard role to cast. Although, not as hard as Jamie's role. I feel sorry for the casting director of this movie (if they decide to do it). Tough decisions!

message 26: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 187 comments I think Rachel Weisz and Emily Blunt would both be great for Claire, still, my number one choice is Kate Winslet. :-)

message 27: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments I've always thought that Kate Winslett or Rachel Weisz would be perfect for the role. But like someone said in this thread, if the people making the movie wait much longer, both may be too old to do the part.

message 28: by Teresita (last edited Aug 10, 2011 07:28AM) (new)

Teresita A | 531 comments I'm sorry i don't care much for Kate Winslett and i can't see her as Claire..I could agree on just about any actress but not her. Just my opinion.

message 29: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 187 comments No need to be sorry, we all have our likes/dislikes. ;-)

message 30: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I wouldn't have minded her as Claire, but I agree that she's on the cusp of being too old.

message 31: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1239 comments By the time they make this movie all our choices will be too old. haha!!

message 32: by Phyllis (new)

Phyllis | 4 comments How about Nicole Kidman as Claire? She has done many different characters and adapts well. She isn't American and could manage all the ages.

message 33: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments IMO she's not Claire.

Cristina (cristina_) | 38 comments Phyllis wrote: "How about Nicole Kidman as Claire? She has done many different characters and adapts well. She isn't American and could manage all the ages."

I don't think she's curvy enough.

Teresita A | 531 comments Mara wrote: "Found this old old article (last year)from New York Times just today...Anyone know if this is really true?

Hi, hope it's not not true that Ms Heigl could be cast as Claire because even though she is ok with me as an actress (not great, but ok) I can't see either her or Ms Winslett as Claire and I think they maybe be too old for the role.

message 36: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments Nicole Kidman is 44, so I think she's well past the age of believability.

Rachel Weisz is 40, also past the age of believablity unfortunately.

Kate Winslett is 35, still in a believable range but just on the cusp, imo.

Katherine Heigl & Rose Bryne are 32 years old. Both still in the believable age range. Though I dont' want Heigl AT ALL!

Emily Blunt is 28, PERFECT! I'm throwing my lot in with Emily Blunt, lol.

message 37: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments I agree with you, Wendy, that Emily Blunt is a good match for Claire. My only concern is can she carry off Claire as an older woman?
I have a feeling that the people that cast this movie will cast actors that won't be able to carry the roles, the way they should be. I'm afraid it's going to be made with only box office receipts in mind.
Unless, of course, they make it a series, then maybe they'll go for quality.

message 38: by Teresita (new)

Teresita A | 531 comments One of my choices right now to play Claire is the actress that plays Spartacus wife in SPARTACUS..Not sure what her real name is. would have to look it up.

message 39: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments That's my fear with the movie too, Carren. Unfortunatley it's been my experience that movies like this don't do well most of the time. You have your Bravehearts, but for ever Braveheart there's many more that tanked.

As far as whether she can pull off Claire as an older woman. I think she's got the personality all the way through, and i think it's easier to make a younger actor(ess) look older then it is to make an older actor(ess) look younger.

Lynda | 67 comments Teresita wrote: "I'm sorry i don't care much for Kate Winslett and i can't see her as Claire..I could agree on just about any actress but not her. Just my opinion."

Kate is more like Brianna than Claire, but I wouldn't suggest her for that role, either.

Nicole is way too skinny.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I looked, Teresita, but I don't know which one is his wife.

message 43: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments Well, the only way to do Outlander justice is to have BBC do a series! :) They are very good at interpreting a book and bringing it to the silver screen _or_ television!

message 44: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I've never watched a BBC mini-series. I always say that I hope they do it on HBO like they're doing Game of Thrones.

message 45: by Teresita (new)

Teresita A | 531 comments Wendy F, it's: SURA
played by Erin Cummings

message 46: by Leslie (new)

Leslie How about Kate Beckensale for Claire? She's the right age and coloring for her and IS a natural beauty. PLUS, she's ENGLISH!!

What do you think?

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments Wendy F wrote: "I've never watched a BBC mini-series. I always say that I hope they do it on HBO like they're doing Game of Thrones."

Oh my goodness! They are great! I just watched North & South again for the 100th time. PBS Masterpiece also does a great job.

However, you're right, Wendy. Outlander is definitely more in the vein of Game of Thrones or Tudors not Jane Austen. hahahaha...

message 48: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments Jen - North and South is probably one of my favorite miniseries! Too bad it wasn't a longer series.
BBC series are so well made. Good writing and acting and great locations.

message 49: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I LOVE Game of Thrones, haha. But that's another thread.

I've never liked the idea of Kate Beckensale for Claire. First, I think she's way to slim for the role, and I guess I'm just not a huge fan of hers. I've seen alot of other people mention her though, so she's a popular pick.

Teresita - I looked up Erin Cummings and i think she's got a pretty good likeness, for sure. But she's 34 (Kate Winslet's age) so I think she's also right there on the cusp of being the wrong age, i think.

message 50: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I think Kate is natually pretty (if there were a movie or series, she'd never be wearing makeup!) I also remember reading in ALL the Outlander books how thin Claire became...most of the time! I did like that Jamie preferred a little meat on her ones, though! Anyway, Ms. Beckinsale is my personal favorite if nothing else because she "looks" exactly the way Gabaldon describes Claire...
