Iviana (The Sign Painter) Mʘ‿ʘP (thesignpainter) From Wikipedia:
"Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849) was an American author, poet, editor and literary critic, considered part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story and is considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre. He is further credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction. He was the first well-known American writer to try to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in a financially difficult life and career."

So I've read: The Masque of the Red Death, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Cask of Amontillado, The Raven, and one about a cat becoming a bas-relief at the end. I have to say, although they are gloomy and bloody, I love Poe's poems and short stories!

Shayla (shaylaalexander) We read The Raven as a class last year and it was creepy...but awesome poetry.

And the raven said, "Nevermore."

The Cask of Amontillado. One of my favorites. It's not a poem, though, but a short story.

OH, that one about a cat being a bas-relief, that's "The Black Cat,"

. (onawhim) I have a book with all of his works and I've read them all.

He wrote really good dark humour. Read The Spectacles. Utterly hilarious.

Edgar Allen Poe had beautiful writing. Reading his poetry is like gorging yourself on a buffet table of foods you've never tasted before but that are utterly delicious. Sometimes it's a little too much, however- he plays with his readers, teases them, loads them up with too much beauty.

Like that he may have died of rabies? :P

message 14: by . (new)

. (onawhim) He was very disturbed. You can't be a good writer without being screwed up in a way or two.
