I haven't read any book from Arthur Conan Doyle, but i really want to read something about Sherlock Holmes.
I have read only read
. The book has a horror element to it which really scares you in the beginning but as the story progresses it gets converted in to an element of mystery which keeps you hooked till the very end. I really like to read some of his other works.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is the father of detective fiction - the first author to use a magnifying glass in his books as a devise to find clues! I love his books; especially the Sherlock Holmes books
Read 'Return of Sherlock Holmes' first. If you like it, go for 'Adventures of Sherlock Holmes'. Then you could pick up any one of his four novels.Do go in with a disclaimer though. Conan Doyle is to literature as Jean Luc Godard is to films. This is because the form and template of the Sherlock Holmes' stories have been used, reused, recycled, regurgitated so many times that you might end up not appreciating how groundbreaking they were when they first appeared. That said, all the stories have aged remarkably well (Sherlock Holmes would go on to influence other memorable characters like Hercule Poirot and even Gregory House). These are must reads for any fiction fan, not just mystery lovers. Read them for the characters first, the mood and atmosphere next and in the end, for the narrative or plot.
