I devoured HP and loved unashamedly the Twilight series. Actually, the Twilight Moms forum led me to the Poison Study and the Spy Glass Trilogies.
I tend to find myself browsing the YA sections for something I know I'll enjoy. I really like Maggie Stiefvater books. Prefer the pixie ones to the Wolf ones, but all good escapism. I think that's why I like YA. I've had a tough couple of years in real life, so some unadulterated teenage fantasy is a joyful escape. :)

I love YA books. I am a total Potterhead and love Twilight too. I've been reading the Maggie Stiefvater books as well but the latest one I got a bit bored of. I dream of writing a YA novel but I never get any newish ideas.

I usually read them in between books if I'm finding it difficult to find the time to settle in to an adult book. I went through the house of night books in a few weeks. The hunger games are available again on amazon kindle UK so I've got the first one ready to go!

Some of my favourite books are YA/kids books because I like fantasy/magic type stories and they're usually a more light hearted read. Love the Potter books and His Dark Materials. I quite like YA vampire books like Morganville (not Twilight though).

I think I read less YA books now than I used to because there are so many vampire books! I do like the Twilight books though, and I love Harry Potter. Last ones I read were the Hunger Games books, loved them and also the Chaos Walking trilogy.

I like to read both ya and children's books, I loved Harry Potter and the Dark Materials trilogy, but from what I've heard so far it appears Twilight is mostly crap so I'll be giving it a miss, heehee. Sometimes I get annoyed at how everything (especially ya books) has to be a series nowadays - a trilogy at the very least. Greedy greedy little mice.

I'm a huge fan of this category! I'm re-reading all the Harry Potter books, upto the last one now. I did enjoy the Twilight series, though I'm not a huge fan. I've also gotten into The Mortal Instruments and I have The Hunger Games lined up in my to read section.

I've only just read Northern Lights, I bought it in 2002. I loved it though. I've got the Twilight books but I've not read them, my mum didn't really enjoy them and I've not seen the films. I'm just not really grabbed by anything that won't be as good as True Blood (not that I\ve read the Sookie Stackhouse books..) I'm going to reread Harry Potter soon, when I get my Pottermore invitation as it takes you through in chronological order.

Do the The Southern Vampire Mysteries count as Young Adult? I'm addicted to them, I'm on book eight :)

YA lovers should check out Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Powers and Darkess Rising series! They are pretty fantastic :)

Thanks Jennifer - I'll check them out. Maybe we'll get some YA books nominated for group reading at some point.

I've just ordered The Hunger Games trilogy from The Book People -- they have the three for £4.99 at the moment. I'm really excited about starting them -- I love YA fiction, and I've heard really good things about this series.

One of my favourite YA novels is Rachel Klein's The Moth Diaries. It's a re-writing of LeFanu's Carmilla, set in a girl's boarding school. Really worth a read :)

I'm not usually into Vampire books, but this one sounds like it would be a good read. Might try and see if I can get a copy.

I will literally try any YA book I love them I grew up on point horror which started my love for L.J.Smith's works
I have read all the Twilight saga and enjoyed them hehe.

Has anyone read any Marcus Sedgwick? I've ordered a few of his hardbacks.

Short story (that I'm finally typing on my mac - 3rd time non-crash lucky). I spotted (and bought) a copy of in a pail for £1 outside an antique shop in Swanage. It is such a beautiful hardback that I recently decided to attempt to buy more of the same quality. I struck out with a couple (some branch of the publisher but glossy dustcover and not at all special) but is of the same quality. He's got fairly high ratings and I really wanted to get some hardbacks that really stand out for quality so I've got a couple more.

I like the House of Night series and Vampire Academy . The Spin off series for VA just started and so far that is good too. I totally recommend! To me they are much better then the Twilight series.

I read the house of night series in one go. I didn't really enjoy the last one I read, and really wanted to skip parts, so I didn't read the book about Dragon. I did find the teenage speak a bit overdone at first and really had to get into it

Am going to try reading some more YA books but nothing with vampires as am bit bored of all that, so have ordered the Hunger Games from the book people as they seem to have decent reviews - what else should I look out for?

What is the hunger games about?

A reality tv show where the contestants have to kill each other to win. Doesn't sound like it would be a YA story but will see what it's like when it arrives.

It is a bit over done but I like it all the same. I refuse to buy any of the Novella's, because I think that is a bit much. I think the spin off series is going to be a lot better because the focus will not be focused on Zoey.

I really loved Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider series...I started reading them when I was much younger, but he just finished the series recently. It's kind of teenage James Bond stuff, I suppose...Alex is a schoolboy recruited by MI6 and sent on all sorts of missions. I think they're really good, as YA fiction goes...worth a try, maybe?

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed The Hunger Games, too. When I first read the synopsis, I thought that it sounded absolutely grim, but as more and more people recommended them to me, I gave them a try. I loved them -- at least the first two. The third really didn't do it for me. I feel about them as I do about Twilight, I guess...they were entertaining, kept me both guessing and wanting to know *exactly* what would happen next, and they were an easy, gripping read. For all that, though, I probably wouldn't read them again.

The third was a bit crap really, it felt like the ending was rushed but overall I liked the series, I thougt the concept of the games themselves was interesting. yes the characters and writing are a bit 'teen' but it was gripping and an enjoyable read.

A bit late on this thread but I've been reading Lois Lowry books and they are really great - some pretty serious subject matter (dystopian societies, nazi occupation) handled really well ...

it's never too late to talk books;) I've seen and I really want to read it. Which books have you read? Are they pageturners?

yes, I like a lot of boks that are considered part of YA.
but I have to say, that genre description makes me a bit annoyed. mostly because a lot of people look down their noses at it, like some do with "chick lit". and there are so many different genres being lumped together in there... sorry. I don't really want to get ranty.

for me a book is a book is a book. I might love it, or it might not to be my taste, but each is valid in its own right. everything else is just a matter of taste.

anyways, I love all the Harry Potter books, I think they are pretty flawless and just so well written and everytime I read them again I'm just amazed by the details and hints she's put everywhere.
I liked the The Hunger Games trilogy a lot, which almost surprised me a bit. but there were bits and parts of her writing I wasn't that happy with.
other favourites are His Dark Materials and The Abhorsen Trilogy.
and I really enjoyed Maggie Stiefvater's Werewolves of Mercy Falls, I devoured all three of those last year. I liked them much better than Twilight.

I love Young adult, they draw me in the most and i always think that they have so much in them i cant put them down, of course i love other generes but YA is my main and most loved one,
what are everyones favorite books so far in YA i am always open to new books !x
