Logical Rachel: Not decriminalize, but legalize, yes.

I think it should be legal. We're using it for medical uses, and it seems like people are finding ways to get to it/buy it/know suppliers, so why not if they are already doing that? Oh, and we already have a thing legal that kills countless people when abused. It's called alcohol.
Alcohol and tobacco are both far more dangerous than weed...plus they're actually addictive. Weed can be addictive, no denying that, but only if you allow yourself to become addicted...if that makes sense :P
That's true. Routine use of "weed" isn't the best for you, but it isn't on the same level as alcohol and tobacco, like you mentioned.
I hate that I agree with you... I hate drugs but well... This video really convinced me that marijuana should at least be legal with regulated use http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DUYW_...
Marijuana should not be legal. I don't know all the medical purposes for marijuana, but I'm sure there are lots of cons to using it.
"I don't know all the medical purposes .."
Shows that you aren't entirely looking into the pros, and only bashing it.

Fine, then. Tell me all the medical purposes. And FYI- I'm bashing on it because its a drug. Drugs are bad. NUFF SAID.
Not all drugs are bad. You're referring to the ones that aren't legalized. Drugs in itself is a broad term.
- The drug generally isn't more harmful than alcohol or tobacco if used in moderation.
- Limiting the use of the drug intrudes on personal freedom.
- Legalization would mean a lower price; thus, related crimes (like theft) would be reduced.
- There are medical benefits such as the those for cancer patients.
- Street justice related to drug disputes would be reduced.
- It could be a source of additional tax revenues.
- Police and court resources would be freed up for more serious crimes.
- Drug dealers (including some terrorists) would lose most or all of their business.
- The FDA or others could regulate the quality and safety of drugs.
- Like sex, alcohol, or cigarettes, marijuana is one of life's little pleasures for some people.
- Aside from recreational drug use, Cannabis has several industrial and commercial uses, as over 25,000 products can be made from the crop.
- Drug busts often trap young people in a flawed system that turns them into lifelong criminals.

But, if what your saying is true, then the security of these drugs wil go down and people could get drugs easier than they do already. YYou are making it much worse.
When they are legalized, they will be regulated. Sure, there might be some stray sources that hand it out, but hasn't there always been?
It will be like unecessary drugs. Its pointless. You can still overdose. Pharmicists have enough to do already.FYI- These "regulations" would probably increase theft of drugs. There will be thefts in pharmacies and everything.
luhvBOOKS *~Colin Morgan/JD Forever~* wrote: "But, if what your saying is true, then the security of these drugs wil go down and people could get drugs easier than they do already. Not if you are supervised or only given a certain amount at a time. Even so, you could overdose on medical drugs that they prescribe. I know I took a powerful pain med an hour too early and I overdosed (probably one of the scariest moments of my life). Just saying that not all drugs are safe, even the legal ones.
Theft? It'll decrease it. You could ask for it or buy for it now. You would be more inclined to steal it when it is illegal because .. well .. it's illegal. There are people who steal drugs in general from pharmaceutics, which is quite sad, but it happens.

luhvBOOKS *~Colin Morgan/JD Forever~* wrote: "Yeah buying it legally is going to reduce security its bad"How will buying it legally reduce security? It's legal. That would raise security.
luhvBOOKS *~Colin Morgan/JD Forever~* wrote: "Yeah buying it legally is going to reduce security its bad"If it was legal, then it would be regulated more. You seem to think that if it was legalized, that would mean everyone would be running around smoking it willy-nilly, but no ... It might actually keep people from having too much of it, not to mention it would prevent violent disputes between dealers and whatnot.
And if it was legalized, it might lead to better education on it, too. Or at least better awareness.
Things that are legal are easier to get. That's all I mean. Tylenol, its legal. Its easy to get. Crack, however, is harder, and its illegal.See my point?
You can abuse Tylenol (though silly, it's true). People *have* been addicted to pain meds that are sold over the counter. And Tylenol is regulated through a store.
Remember that little bit I said, about cocaine used to be in cough medicine? If you buy enough cough drops, the store keep track of it, so you cannot buy a bunch. Enough of it can be used to make cocaine.
Easier to get, yes, but regulated and watched. Cigarettes are sold in stores, and you don't seem to be complaining. With that, there are warning and advisories, but they are still sold.

PS- I dont think cigarettes should be legal. If you want me to complain, look in the cigarettes debate :)
I think marijuana should be legalized. Mostly because of the money.1. There would be a lot less people going to jail, therefore less money spent on jail.
2. Taxing marijuana would produce income, preferably used to pay off the national debt.
3. Less money and time spent on marijuana condemnation.
It's a fine drug. Just like cigarettes or caffeine.
And most pot heads I know aren't a menace to society. All they really want to do is probably work some, eat, sleep, eat, smoke, work, and so forth. People also get the idea that they aren't productive -- not always the case!
And I do believe that alcohol is more dangerous than marijuana ..
At the end of the day, it's a personal decision.

well, I will say that I don't know a single person who would smoke pot if only it weren't so difficult to procure. also, I don't think you can really OD on marijuana...
however, I will concede that the loss of productivity argument does hold some water- as tenebris said, it's not always the case, but it often is. but, when you compare a little laziness to the fallout of other drugs...
Kirby: You can't OD, it's impossible to consume the lethal dose of THC just from weed.
Lorelli: Why not for other purposes?
Lorelli: Why not for other purposes?
It would probably make sence for it to be legal and we just tax the hell out of it.
ok, first, I have little issue with the use of weed, and couldn't care less if they make it legal, as long as its regulated and policed properly ( the cost of regulating and policing it would rocket if it was legal)second, arguments like "its not as bad as other things that are already legal" is not a good argument to make weed legal, its a good argument to make things like tobacco and alcohol illegal.
Here, this says it better:

Yes - it would be much safer if it were legal too...as it is now, tons of addictive stuff can be added without regulation of any sort.
Heh, I've always thought that but never really wanted to point it out x]
Thanks for the blog link, I didn't know lots of that.

Not sure where you're from Aleph, but in the UK, you'll only get a caution for possession, as long as its under a certain amount (can't recall how much), once its over that amount, you can get prosecuted for it, but if its a lot, then its considered to be enough to supply others, and so you get done for possession with intent to supply.
I don't see whats wrong with having it legal? Alcohol is legal and yet it kills lots of people a year. Same with cigarettes. I know so many people that have done marijuana and truthfully, its not hard to get your hands on. My whole life I've been raised around substance abuse and personally I like it better when this one guy where I live is high compared to drunk. Alcohol makes him angry and abusive, but when he's doing pot he's really calm and I can at least reson with him, even if its just sending him home or telling him to lower his voice.
On top of that, though I have never done drugs I know mulitple kids my age (13 years old or slightly older) That are able to get ahold of pot, the dealers here don't care how old you are as long as you've got the money. If marijuana was legal those kids would infact have a harder time getting ahold of it because the old dealers would loose enough business they would just stop selling.
Maddie*I hear in my mind all of these voices* wrote: "I don't see whats wrong with having it legal? Alcohol is legal and yet it kills lots of people a year. Same with cigarettes. "Again, thats not an argument for legalising pot, instead its an argument for making cigarettes and alcohol illegal.
Good point in the last paragraph though, it would be better policed and regulated.
No, I wasn't saying that you should make the two illegal. I'm just saying that from what I have seen, pot has a lesser effect of people and that the others are legal, so why is marijuana not?
Personally, I'd rather drink than smoke grass. Weed lost it's luster a few years ago for me. But I'll take hallucinogens over booze any day of the week.

The fact that its not as bad as other things is not a good reason to legalise it, its a good reason to ban the worse things.
As to why, which isn't what you said originally, its probably that there are interested parties in power who would prefer to keep it illegal.
